Sam entered a restaurant to eat. Then, something outside caught his attention. An old man was sitting in a wheelchair, watching all the vehicles passing by. For some reason, this scene pulled at Sam’s heartstrings (心弦), and he went out to the stranger.
“Hello, sir,” he began, “Are you hungry ”
The man looked up and said, “Yes, I am. But I’m waiting for my wife. She will be here soon.” “Oh, that’s great, sir,” Oliver answered and then he purchased something for the man at the restaurant. During his meal, he kept thinking about the man outside. He felt something was wrong. Was his wife really coming to pick him up Sam had no idea, so he asked around.
One waitress answered his questions. “His name is Mr. Perkins and he has been waiting for his wife at that corner for a week. Back then, I saw a woman helping him get out of her car onto the wheelchair. I thought they were coming to eat here. But she never came back. According to Mr. Perkins, his wife had something to do and was coming back soon,” she said.
These words shocked Sam completely. “How could anyone do like that And why has no one helped that man ” he asked.
“We tried to help him. All the restaurants on this block bought him food, and we even called nursing homes. But if we did that, he would be angry. It was bad for his health. So now the caretaker at the public nursing home brings him here in the morning and takes him back at night,” the waitress said.
Sam thought he must do something. He took a picture of him with his phone, just in case. 注意:

That night, Sam turned on his laptop. He logged into his social media accounts and posted the picture of the old man along with his story. He also sent emails to local charities and media outlets, hoping they could pay attention to this matter. Sam went to the street where the old man was. To his surprise, a crowd had gathered around the old man. Reporters from the local newspaper were interviewing him, and some volunteers were bringing him more food and warm clothes. A social worker came up to Sam, thanking him for his efforts. “Because of you, we are now able to provide Mr. Perkins with proper care,” she said. Sam smiled, feeling a great sense of satisfaction.

That night, Sam turned on his laptop. He spent hours searching for contact information of relevant welfare institutions. After gathering enough details, he made phone calls one by one, explaining the old man's situation. His voice was full of urgency. “This old man has been waiting for help for too long. We must do something now,” he emphasized.
Sam went to the street where the old man was. A government official was talking to the old man gently. “We've found a comfortable nursing home for you, Mr. Perkins. It's a place where you can be well - taken care of.” The old man finally nodded in agreement. Sam stepped forward, and the old man grasped his hand tightly, his eyes filled with gratitude. Sam knew that his efforts had paid off.

He also shared the post on his personal social media accounts, asking his friends to repost it. “I hope this can reach more people and get Mr. Perkins the help he deserves,” Sam thought.
Sam went to the street where the old man was. He saw that a group of volunteers had arrived. They were chatting with Mr. Perkins, trying to make him feel better. A local TV station reporter was also there, preparing to make a report on Mr. Perkins' story. The caretaker came up to Sam and said, “Thank you for what you did. Now more people know about Mr. Perkins and are willing to help.” Sam smiled, knowing that his small action had made a big difference.
