Text 9
W: Do you sometimes feel stressed(感到有压力) at work
M: Of course! It is the No.1 stressor in my life. You know job stress has become a very common problem these days. So we must learn to deal with it.
W: I totally agree. What is your solution
M: Well, there are two causes of job stress. One is employees’ character and the other is company conditions. So if we want to manage job stress, both we and the companies should do something. For me, I am trying to balance work and relaxation time. You know, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy(只工作不玩耍,聪明小孩也变傻).
W: You seem to have a very relaxed outlook.
M: It is necessary. Positive attitude helps to prevent stress.
W: But I don't think we can change our working conditions. Anyway, we are not the boss.
M: I heard some companies were providing stress management training and making changes inside them, like avoiding unrealistic deadlines and organizing relaxing activities. Our boss is a smart person. He will learn from them if he would like an efficient and healthy team.
Text 10
M: As we all know, the middle part of the 20th century brought new ways to help people get over diseases. They worked very well. They made people healthier and allowed them to live longer. By the 1960s most people could expect to live to be at least 60.
At the time most people in developed countries had a very good life. Of course new inventions continued to be made. But man had a desire to explore(有探索欲望) again. The earth was known to man but the stars were not. Man began looking for ways to go into space. The Soviet Union made the first step. Then the United States took a step. Since then other countries, including China and Japan, have made their own steps into space(已经向太空迈出了自己的步伐).
In 1969 man took his biggest step away from Earth. Americans first walked on the moon. This is certainly just a beginning, though. New inventions will some day allow us to do things we have never yet dreamed of.
