Five years ago, Ghanaian photojournalist Paul Ninson made an unexpected and meaningful discovery in the archives (档案馆) of New York: a wealth of African images that had been largely forgotten. This accidental finding sparked a fire in Ninson, inspiring him to create the Dikan Center in Accra, Ghana — a center devoted to preserving and displaying Africa’s rich visual history. Recently, the center, which translates to“take the lead” in the Akan language, celebrated its second anniversary, marking a significant milestone in Ninson’s mission.
Despite the fact that photography is not widely recognized as an art form in Ghana, Ninson’s passion for it was lit up by the stories told by his family and the fascinating photographs taken by a friend. With determination, he sold his iPhone and watch to buy his first camera and undertook a self-taught journey to master the craft. He later received formal education at the International Center of Photography in New York, where he was impressed by the large collection of African visual history.
With the support of like-minded individuals, Ninson collected over 30,000 volumes for the DikanCenter, which opened its doors in December 2022. The center is home to two collections: one focusing onAfrican and African American stories, and the other displaying the work of global photographers. More than just a library, the Dikan Center offers workshops, friendships, and seminars, attracting many industry professionals.
In addition to its educational programs, the center hosts a variety of exhibitions and film viewing, providing a platform for Africa’ s diverse narratives. For Ghanaians, the Dikan Center offers a fresh and enriching perspective on their history, sparking a sense of hope and inspiring a new generation of storytellers. The center stands as a powerful symbol of the importance of storytelling and history preservation, showing Africa’ s rich cultural heritage and serving as a source of inspiration for the continent and the world at large.

This autumn, pupils in the Finnish town of Riihimaki headed back to school with backpacks full of books. This marks a change from recent years.
For the past 10 years, the Finnish government has pushed laptops and other electronic devices in the classroom. Finland’s public education system is known for its good results and its readiness to try new teaching methods. Until recently many schools gave laptops for free to all pupils from as early as age 11. But Finnish parents and teachers have become increasingly worried about the influence of screens on children.
Riihimaki, a town of about 30,000 people, which since 2018 had stopped using most books in middle schools, is trying something different this year: going back to pen and paper.
“Young people are using phones and electronic devices so much these days that we don’t want school to be one of the places where children are only fixing their eyes on screens. The perturbation that comes with the use of electronic devices makes many children unable to give their full attention to learning,” said Maija Kaunonen, a local English teacher.
She added, “Most students just did the exercises as quickly as they could so they could then move on to using social media. And it took them no time at all to change tabs in the browser. So when the teacher came round to them, they could say, ‘Yes, I was doing this exercise.’”
Across Finland, children’s learning results have been slowly getting worse in recent years. In answer, the government plans new laws to ban the use of personal devices, such as phones, during school hours to cut down on screen time.
Eighth-graders Miko Mantil a said her concentration has improved since books returned to the classrooms. “Reading is much easier and I can read much faster from books.”
Minna Peltopuro, a psychologist working with the town on the change, said the total screen time should be cut because Finnish students now look at a screen for up to six hours each day on average. She added that too much use of electronic devices comes with both physical and mental risks, such as eye problems and growing anxiety, and the brain is at risk when trying to do more than one thing at a time.
28.What changes have occurred in Riihimiki’s schools recently
A.They have replaced laptops with textbooks.
B.They have started using more electronic devices.
C.They have introduced a different teaching method.
D.They have adopted a new public education system.
29.What does the underlined word “perturbation” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A.Convenience. B.Disturbance. C.Challenge. D.Popularity.
30.What is Minna Peltopuro’s attitude to the average screen time for Finnish students
A.Worried. B.Doubtful. C.Unconcerned. D.Supportive.
31.What is the purpose of writing this text
A.To discuss the future of Finnish education.
B.To persuade schools to stop using electronic devices.
C.To inform readers about the changes in Finnish education.
D.To compare the traditional education method with the modern one.

Tardigrades, with nicknames like “water bear”, may be the toughest animals on Earth. They have been around for at least 500 million years or so, possibly sharing a common ancestor with arthropods (节肢动物). Over 1,000 species are known today, including marine, freshwater, and terrestrial tardigrades. Tardigrades are near the edge of visibility for most human eyes. A typical tardigrade is about 0.5 mm long, and even the largest ones are less than 2 mm in length.
Perhaps the most famous thing about tardigrades is their strange and mysterious durability. Tardigrades are not immortal, but they have a powerful adaptation that allows them to survive for decades in extreme conditions. To endure environmental stress, tardigrades suspend their metabolism (新陈代谢) through a process called cryptobiosis.
Some tardigrades in a tun can handle pressure as high as 600 megapascals (MPa) . That’s nearly 6, 000 atmospheres, or 6, 000 times the pressure of Earth’s atmosphere at sea level, and it’s about six times higher than the pressure found in the planet’s deepest ocean trenches. Even half as much pressure, 300 MPa, would kill most multicellular life and bacteria.
Two tardigrade species flew into low-Earth orbit on the FOTON-M3 mission in 2007, becoming the first animals known to survive direct exposure to space. The 12-day mission proved that exposure to the vacuum was no problem for them, and the lack of gravity had little effect, either. Some tardigrades even laid eggs during the mission. Research has shown tardigrades can survive roughly 1,000 times more radiation than a human.
Chinese scientists have decoded the key mechanisms that make tardigrades radiation-resistant, which could shed light on how to make human beings stronger against radiation and how to increase the stress tolerance of human cells in the future, according to a study published in the journal Science in October 2024.
32.How does the author introduce the features of tardigrades in Paragraph 1
A.By making comparisons. B.By analyzing cause and effect.
C.By showing examples. D.By listing figures.
33.Why can tardigrades possibly survive in extreme conditions according to this passage
A.Because they are immortal.
B.Because they can change extreme conditions.
C.Because they can regain life from death for many times.
D.Because they slow down their metabolism.
34.When tardigrades face pressure or space, what is a possible condition
A.They can’t handle pressure more than 500 Mpa.
B.They can only survive indirect exposure to space.
C.They are almost not affected by the lack of gravity.
D.They will be killed by the pressure about 300 Mpa.
35.What is the importance of the study of Chinese scientists
A.Their findings can be applied to help human beings.
B.They focus on the reproduction of tardigrades.
C.They study the dietary habits of tardigrades.
D.They proved tardigrades radiant-resistant.

第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Life was peaceful in the town of Willow Creek. But one chilly autumn morning, a new neighbor moved in across the street. He was a college student. He had brought with him a beer-pong table, which was set on his front lawn.
The beer-pong table was within full view of my kitchen window. It was a tool for the noisy, late-night parties by college students. I knew that all too well from once living near a university.
Remembering the sleepless nights caused by the sound of bouncing balls and the noises, I felt a burst of anger bubbling up like a storm. So I walked right up to the student’s house, and knocked on the door. I told him that it had to go. Instead of apologizing, he returned my anger in kind. “Who the hell are you ” he asked. “And what gives you the right to make such a ridiculous demand ”
His challenging gaze and aggressive tone added fuel to the flames of my anger. My sharp and cutting words hung in the air. I could feel the heat of my anger, and a red veil clouded my face.
The next day, I felt ashamed. Why didn’t other women get angry like me Why couldn’t I keep it altogether Why couldn’t I find some useful way to release the aggression
I thought of the cookies I had made recently — big, peanut butter chocolate cookies. I had made them to apologize to a friend. Some of the dough was still in the freezer. I hadn’t intended to save the cookie dough balls for future apologies. But it was handy to have them sitting there, waiting to make things right. I decided to bake the cookies and offer them to my neighbor as a peace gesture. As the cookies baked, the house was filled with a warm, inviting smell. I placed the cookies on a plate, took a deep breath, and walked across the street.

M: No, you don’t. You just need to sign the form to say you’ve received it.
W: See you the day after tomorrow then.

W: Well, now let me tell you what I've been doing in recent years. In 2015, I retired from my post as a designer for a furniture company. And since then, I’ve been working as a volunteer. In 2017, I joined Green Woodpecker — an organization that promotes environmental protection. At the beginning, I mostly worked in public squares near the west railway station, helping the traffic police and giving directions to passengers. Then my work focus changed. When our city adopted the new tobacco control rules in June, 2018, I began a new task: persuading people not to smoke in public places. In addition to the railway station, I have been going to places where there are many restaurants and bars. We work in groups of three, and try to stop people from smoking. Fortunately, most smokers are supportive and put out their cigarettes when we ask them to, but that was not the case in the early days — some smokers could become quite violent. I like being a volunteer. The work is exciting and makes me feel young. It has now become a part of my life.
