I’m a single dad raising a son, so I usually helped my child select my Father’s day gifts, and then paid for them. When my son was a high school senior, he took control of the gifting by offering to drive us to Denny’s for breakfast. But the evening before the holiday, I couldn’t sleep. What kept me awake was the realization that this would be the last Father’s day before my kid left for college.
It truly felt like I had just taken the training wheels off my son’s bike. In my household, the fridge door is the all-knowing parental focus holding the academic and sports schedules, the school lunch menu, and the family calendar. Also attached to it are photos, awards, artwork, and the “good” report cards. The refrigerator is a super-sized memory book of my son’s life.
I began to go through the objects of significant emotional value, which required me to pull the fridge out because all the baby items were pushed to the sides. As I checked the golden oldies, I quickly realized three things. First, I had too many photos. Second, I needed to clear up the sides of the refrigerator. Third, soccer was a big part of our lives.
I never played or watched soccer before parenthood. Yet, I became the coach for all his teams until he reached middle school. Back then I assumed it was my fatherly duty to support my son’s activities, but now I understood that I was wrong. After years of supporting, guiding, and loving my son, I finally recognized that taking part in my son’s life on any level was not a duty— it was an honor.
I time-traveled through mementos (纪念品), and each memory helped me understand what being a dad really meant. Teenagers might not give us presents we want or need on Father’s day. But they have already given us the best possible gift— allowing us to feel what it’s like to be their dad.
24.What kept the author awake before Father’s day
A.Planning a surprise for his father.
B.Reflecting on his poor father-son relationship.
C.Feeling emotional about a special Father’s day.
D.Getting excited about the breakfast at Denny’s.
25.Why is the fridge important to the family
A.It adds an artistic touch to the house.
B.It holds memories of passing family days.
C.It is a source of creativity for school lunch.
D.It serves as a gathering place for family members.
26.Why did the author pull out the fridge
A.To redecorate its sides. B.To clear up the kitchen.
C.To make room for a new one. D.To uncover personal mementos.
27.Why did the author claim that he was wrong in the last but one paragraph
A.He recognized he had too many photos.
B.He regretted not playing soccer before parenthood.
C.He realized fatherhood was about pride rather than a task.
D.He felt ashamed to let his son take control of the gifting.

Ten years ago, Price Hill resident Patti Hogan noticed a problem in her neighborhood. Instead of letting the problem go on, she took action. Hogan is now a board member for the program she launched a decade ago, the Price Hill Safety Community Action Team(CAT). The community program works to beautify Price Hill while also keeping kids out of trouble.
Hogan has lived in Price Hill all her life and started the Safety CAT to address a significant problem she was seeing in the community. “We had a terrible problem with young kids just standing around on the street and wrestling with each other,” Hogan said. Along with fights, Hogan says streets were filled with abandoned homes and overgrown grass. Not wanting to move away, she thought about what she could do— attack the problem head-on.
Each Saturday during the summer, the sounds of lawnmowers (割草机) fill the neighborhood. Those who are making this “music” are the neighborhood kids who are part of the Safety CAT. They come together to cut and clean up the lawns of abandoned homes.
Hogan helps teach the kids how to work a landscape, and how to earn a dollar— they bring home around $45 each week. As Hogan explains, the lesson is more than about money. “We’re keeping them busy and then they’re giving back to the neighborhood by changing some of the blight (破败之处) and in the process, we’re teaching them values and character lessons as we go,” Hogan explains. She also hopes she is teaching them to treasure their neighborhood as much as she does.
That love has spread to the children on the program. Philip Miller, who graduated from the 10-week summer program two years ago, now comes back to help guide the other kids. “This program helps you look at work as a team and also work on your individual personal growth,” explains Miller.
Hogan says they still have spaces open for anyone interested in getting their child involved, and they are always looking for volunteers.
28.Why did Patti Hogan start the program
A.To offer old people free services.
B.To make her neighborhood a better place.
C.To raise public awareness about environmental issues.
D.To make officials aware of the problems facing Price Hill.
29.How does the program benefit the kids according to Patti Hogan
A.It allows them to make money each day.
B.It teaches them practical skills for their future.
C.It helps them know about their neighborhood.
D.It assists them in shaping good personal qualities.
30.What does Philip Miller’s story show
A.The program really works well. B.Children need space to volunteer more.
C.The program changed the kids’ career path. D.Children need a role model in their personal growth.
31.What can we say about Patti Hogan after reading the text
A.She has a tough but gentle nature. B.She is narrow-minded but generous.
C.She has a strong sense of social responsibility. D.She is eagerly seeking support for her program.

The music industry is no stranger to virtual(虚拟的) characters as pop stars. Like many of the today’s human artists, they’ve won Grammy Awards and held virtual concerts. Noonoouri, a digital character created by German designer Joerg Zuber, is the latest virtual influencer to land a record deal (唱片合约). She’s been signed to Warner Music as its first virtual artist, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with famous singers at one of the industry’s biggest record companies.
As an almost entirely virtual creation, Noonoouri is not exactly an average artist. She has been created using a combination of different technologies to virtually dance and sing. Marec Lerche from Warner Music Central Europe says Noonoouri and digital artists like her can offer companies more experimentation and flexibility. “She can appear in different places at the same time, and you can change her style in a minute,” he says. “She has more opportunities than a human artist in that respect.”
Noonoouri’s signing to Warner has raised concerns in the music industry over the rise of the technology. Jamie Njoku-Goodwin, chief executive of UK Music, says that many in the industry are excited about the opportunities artificial intelligence (AI) might bring, but figuring out the regulatory and legal (监管和法律上的)landscape so it “can enable human creativity” is key.
Dr Shara Rambarran, who has written about virtual musicians, says that while the trend of virtual artists is unlikely to decline in the future, it’s also unlikely to replace humans topping the charts. “AI is not a new concept at all. It’s always existed in some shape or form,” she says. “But will it overtake (超过) everything in the music industry I don’t think so.”
32.What is Noonoouri’s latest achievement
A.Holding a virtual concert. B.Winning a Grammy Award.
C.Signing a record deal with a major company. D.Releasing a song partnering with famous singers.
33.What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A.How Noonoouri was developed and trained.
B.What advantages virtual artists like Noonoouri have.
C.What challenges human artists face in the age of AI.
D.How Noonoouri is different from other virtual artists.
34.What’s Jamie Njoku-Goodwin’s attitude towards AI in the music industry
A.Cautious. B.Disapproving. C.Enthusiastic. D.Unconcerned.
35.Which statement will Dr Shara Rambarran probably agree with
A.Virtual artists are likely to disappear.
B.The concept of AI in music is relatively new.
C.AI may control the music industry in the future.
D.Human artists will never be replaced by virtual ones.

第四部分 写作(满分25分)
略
听力原文
(Text 1)
M: What are you listening to, Mary Pop or hip hop
W: Neither. It’s a great classical music radio station which I listen to all day. They play great music.
(Text 2)
W: Jack’s got a job in that new restaurant that’s opening next to the supermarket in the High Street. I think it’s going to be hard work and he’ll finish late.
M: He had to work long hours before, when he worked in a hotel, so he’ ll be fine.
(Text 3)
W: How did you celebrate your birthday
M: Well, I wanted to go out for a big meal with my best friend. But he was on holiday in Paris, so I went out with my family to see a new play. We went for a quick meal afterwards.
(Text 4)
W: Gary, our flight to Athens, which was due to take off at 2:30, has been delayed because of bad weather conditions, so it’s going to be an hour later.
M: OK. So I’ll pick you up at 11:30 instead of 10:30, and that should give us plenty of time.
(Text 5)
W: Hi. My friend gave me an old bike of hers, and I’m feeling like it’s a little tall for me.
M: OK. I’ll take it down a little bit. Let me have you get on the seat, so I can check the height.
(Text 6)
W: Hi Josh. Do you want to sign up as a member of our recycling club
M: I don’t know. What does it involve
W: Getting everyone involved in recycling here at school and coming up with some activities and competitions to encourage students. You’ re good at that.
M: Why not When is it I can’t do Wednesdays or Thursdays, because I have football practice then.
W: That’s not a problem. It’s on Mondays after school, in the science room.
M: Okay. See you then.
(Text 7)
W: Do you need any help
M: Yes, I’d like your opinion on which of these ties to get. Both of them have fashionable patterns, but I’m not sure if the black one will go well with this suit I’m buying for my friend’s wedding.
W: Since the suit you’ve picked is gray, I think this sky blue tie matches it better. The black one seems too dark in my opinion.
M: Hmm... You’ re right. Plus, my friend said that light purple will be one of his wedding colors. So, your recommendation will go better with that too. I’ ll put it on now just to make sure it suits me.
(Text 8)
W: Peter, what have you found about doing sports
M: I found one really interesting story about a man who did 401 marathons in 401 days.
W: Wow, that’s amazing. But why
M: He was raising money for charity. He ran marathons around the UK and, although he had to stop because of some injuries, he made up the extra miles when he recovered. What stories have you found
W: One story I liked was about a guy who saw free running on TV when he was fourteen years old. It inspired him to try it himself. He studied videos online and then practiced what he’d seen.
M: Was he successful
W: Yeah. After two years, he entered his first free running race. He discovered that he performed just as well as or even better than the experts. At eighteen he made the finals of a world championship and came third.
M: So we’ve got quite a lot for our project. I hope you found some great photos too...
(Text 9)
W: Hi there. My name’s Elle Galleano.
M: Hi. You’ re the girl who started her own food business at the age of 13, aren’t you
W: That’s right. And you are the guy who’s got his own fashion line.
M: That’s me.
W: I love your designs. I’ve seen photos in magazines of actors wearing your designs. But you don’t like giving interviews, do you
M: No. I prefer to hide behind my clothes. You don’t seem to mind, though.
W: I started by writing blogs about my products online, so it’s not a problem. I’ve just read your book. I thought the
section on presenting yourself for job interviews was really helpful.
M: Thanks! My company now has over fifty people and I’ve interviewed most of them. They were very surprised to find a teenager interviewing them. Do you interview job applicants
W: No, actually. My business is still pretty small and we’ve kept it in the family — Dad manages the money, Mum does the office work and two brothers of my dad work in production. We love working together.
(Text 10)
My friends say I have a good ear for languages. It may be true because I learn new words easily and I really enjoy speaking foreign languages. At school we all study French and German. Believe it or not, some of my classmates and I are also learning Chinese. We belong to the after-school Chinese club. We meet up with our teacher Mr. Lee twice a week. Chinese isn’t easy but we study hard and we’ve made a lot of progress. In May, I’m planning to take part in a language competition for primary schools and I will give a presentation on teenagers in China, of course in Chinese. I began my preparation in January. Well... Now I have fallen slightly behind due to being ill for two weeks, causing me to miss four Chinese lessons. But I’m sure that I will be back on track soon.
