一般情况直接在词尾加er。例如：tall—taller
以字母e结尾的形容词在词尾加r。例如：nice—nicer
以重读闭音节结尾，即（辅音+元音+辅音）字母结尾的单词，先双写最后的辅音字母再加er。例如： big — bigger
以辅音字母加y结尾的词，先将y改为i，再加er。例如：happy—happier
多音节词前面加more，beautiful—more beautiful
