文档简介

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
John and Mary, a retired English couple, were spending their summer visiting Cape Cod, an attractive seaside scenic spot just two hours’ drive from Boston. Their daughter, who lived in Salem close to Boston, had dropped them off early that morning, and insisted that she would pick them up in the evening. John, known for his sharp memory and sense of direction, comforted Mary that they would have no trouble finding their way home, and refused their daughter’s offer.
As time went by, they were fascinated by the charm of Cape Cod, its old-fashioned streets, and the relaxing sound of the waves, and the couple lost themselves in the beauty of their surroundings. The sky was a brilliant blue, the air fresh with the scent of saltwater, and the sun bathed everything in a golden shine. John and Mary wandered along the beach, picking up seashells and taking in the view.
Yet, with the afternoon wearing on, they noticed dark clouds gathering on the horizon. Before the clouds thickened, John and Mary decided it was time to head back to Boston.
They boarded the bus with a few other tourists. At six o’clock, they reached what John believed to be the stop closest to the train station. He confidently led Mary off the bus, certain that they were just a short walk away from their connection to Salem.
However, as they walked through the nearly empty streets, it became clear that something was wrong. The station was nowhere in sight. Finally, the storm came. The whole town was dark except a cafe with light on. Having approached it, they found it was closed.
To make matters worse, when they finally decided to check their phone for directions, they discovered that the battery was dead. This hit them hard, and their earlier confidence turned into frustration and worry. Mary looked at John, her concern mirrored in his eyes, as they stood on the weakly lit sidewalk, unsure of what to do next.

写作示范二
Just as they were beginning to lose hope, a young man approached them. He was dressed casually in jeans and a T - shirt, with a backpack slung over one shoulder. "Hey, is everything all right " he inquired with concern. John and Mary poured out their troubles. The young man listened attentively and then offered to drive them to the train station. "It's on my way, so don't worry," he assured them. John and Mary were relieved and got into his car.

【答案】参考范文
Just as they were beginning to lose hope, a young man approached them. He seemed to sense their suffering and offered a warm smile, asking if they needed any help. After hearing their situation, he comforted them that they were close to the station and offered to walk them there. His calm and comforting presence provided a much-needed comfort, and John and Mary felt a wave of relief wash over them as they followed him. However, upon reaching the station, they were met with another problem — the ticket machine was broken, and their coins simply fell through without issuing a ticket.
The machine failing, the young man took out his credit card to purchase their tickets. Despite their attempts to repay him, he simply smiled and waved off their offer. He even made sure they were safely on the platform before wishing them a good journey. As the train doors closed, John and Mary watched him wave goodbye, deeply moved by the stranger’s generosity. That evening, as they narrated/told the story to their daughter, they couldn’t help but marvel at the unexpected kindness that had turned their troubling experience into a reminder of the goodness in people.
