What do you know about Gulliver's Travels
《格列佛游记》是英国作家乔纳森·斯威夫特的一部杰出的游记体讽刺小说,以主角格列佛的角度描述在四个国度历险的奇遇:小人国、大人国、飞岛国和慧駰国。
格列佛遇海难,来到小人国。这里居民身高仅六英寸,君臣贪婪、国家战祸连绵。作者以居高临下的角度,用巨人的眼光俯视人类的荒唐渺小。格列佛好奇心起,误闯大人国。这里居民身高如尖塔,武器精良、国威赫赫。作者以小矮人的角度,仰视人类的粗俗和铁石心肠。
格列佛逢海盗,造访飞岛国。这里属地被笼罩控制,城市和乡间颓败、荒芜。作者以平常的心态,平视人类的疯狂和邪恶本性。
格列佛被叛变,遍历慧駰国。这里统治者高度理性,人形动物邪恶、低劣。作者以理性动物的角度,审视人类的本质。

5. I shouted at them — the loud noise made them all fall over.

辨析:manage to do sth.和try to do sth.的区别
manage to do sth. 强调通过努力获得了预期的结果(= succeed in doing
sth.);try to do sth. 强调努力的过程(=make an effort to do sth.),结果
不一定成功
e.g. He managed to escape to South America. 他设法逃到了南美。
He tried to escape to South America. 他设法要逃到南美去。
8. I looked down and saw a huge army of tiny people.
我向下望去,看见一大群小人儿。
短语 an army of … 意思是“一群……”
e.g. an army of ants 一群蚂蚁
句中的army最常用的意思是“军队”(尤指陆军)
e.g. Her husband is in the army. 她的丈夫在陆军服役。
9. “I must run away from them,” I thought, but I did not know how to get away.
“我必须逃离他们,”我想,但是我不知道如何逃脱。

e.g. It's very dangerous for a teenager to run away from home.
