Iranian President, Foreign Minister Killed in Helicopter Crash
By Laurence Norman, Sune Engel Rasmussen, Benoit Faucon and Aresu Eqbali
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was killed in a helicopter crash on Sunday. Raisi's death was announced early Monday, after state television reported Sunday afternoon that a helicopter carrying him and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian had made a "difficult landing" in northwestern Iran.
Hours after Raisi's death was confirmed, Khamenei announced five days of national mourning and appointed Mohammad Mokhber, first vice president, as the new head of the executive branch.
Iran's neighbors and allies sent condolences to Tehran. There was no immediate comment from the White House or Israel. The European Union sent its "sincere condolences" to the families of those killed in the crash.
The death of Raisi, 63, and Amir-Abdollahian, 60, is unlikely to result in any significant change in the country's foreign policy. But a leadership transition amid the current turmoil in the Mideast is an additional challenge for Iran to navigate.
A conservative cleric and for decades a confidant of Khamenei, Raisi became Iran's eighth president in August 2021, leading a significantly harder-line government than his predecessor, Hassan Rouhani. There had been speculation that he could be a contender to become the country's supreme leader when Khamenei, who is 85, dies.

How to Stop Making Excuses and Start Living Instead
Whether it’s delaying a difficult conversation or putting off pursuing your biggest dreams, excuses provide us with a temporary shelter from the discomfort we face in our daily lives. 6 By remaining in our comfort zone, we fail to grow and miss out on the good things life has to offer.
7 They make excuses, get stuck in their lives, and repeat the process over and over again. As a former excuse-maker myself, I have learned first hand just what it takes to learn how to stop making excuses for good. In this passage, I will share several practical tips on how to stop making excuses.
As we all know, one of the most common reasons that people make excuses is to avoid responsibility. To stop making excuses, you should shift the focus to your own duty. 8 Accepting full responsibility will definitely be uncomfortable at first. But it’s the most important thing you can do to break free from excuse-making.
Besides, you should challenge your limiting beliefs. We all have limiting beliefs that form the foundation of different types of excuses that we make. 9 They show up as you tell yourself that you’ll never succeed or that certain goals are out of reach. Consider replacing the negative thoughts with more positive beliefs.
Setting goals is one of the best ways to overcome excuses. When setting goals, it’s important to be realistic about what you want to achieve. Try breaking big dreams into specific and achievable goals. 10
A.In this way, you can easily set a realistic goal.
B.These excuses will leave others a bad impression.
C.There are many examples of limiting beliefs in our lives.
D.In my life, I see a lot of people get stuck in the same cycle.
E.Then you’ ll notice the excuses you make begin to lose their power.
F.The more concrete your goals are, the less room there is for excuses.
G.However, they do this at the cost of our long-term sense of satisfaction.

6.上文“Whether it’s delaying a difficult conversation or putting off pursuing your biggest dreams, excuses provide us with a temporary shelter from the discomfort we face in our daily lives.(无论是推迟一场艰难的对话,还是推迟追求你最大的梦想,借口都为我们提供了一个暂时的避风港,让我们得以逃避日常生活中所面临的不适)”及下文“By remaining in our comfort zone, we fail to grow and miss out on the good things life has to offer.(通过停留在我们的舒适区,我们无法成长,也会错过生活中许多美好的事物)”说明借口看似给人们带来的好处,下文又指出如果一直待在舒适区的坏处,由此推断所填内容应该和“借口给人们带来的坏处”有关,G选项“However, they do this at the cost of our long-term sense of satisfaction.(然而,它们是以牺牲我们长期的满足感为代价做到的)”中的however表示转折,指出虽然借口可以暂时逃避不适,但是会牺牲长期的满足感,和上文构成对比关系,而和下文构成顺承关系,符合语境。故选G。
7.下文“They make excuses, get stuck in their lives, and repeat the process over and over again.(他们找借口,陷入生活中,一遍又一遍地重复这个过程)”说明有些人总是找借口,陷入循环,这是对上文内容的解释,D选项中“I see a lot of people get stuck in the same cycle.(我看到很多人陷入了同样的循环)”与之相呼应,下文句中的“repeat the process over and over again”和D选项中的“the same cycle”属于相似表达,故D选项“In my life, I see a lot of people get stuck in the same cycle.(在我的生活中,我看到很多人陷入同样的循环)”符合语境。故选D。
8.上文“To stop making excuses, you should shift the focus to your own duty.(为了停止找借口,你应该把注意力转移到自己的责任上)”说明具体停止找借口的方法,即“需要把注意力转移到你的职责上”,空处可能介绍这种方法带来的好处,E选项“Then you’ ll notice the excuses you make begin to lose their power.(然后你会发现你找的借口开始失去效力)”可以承接上文,说明当你转移注意力到自己的责任上时,你会发现借口开始失去力量,符合语境。故选E。
9.上文“Besides, you should challenge your limiting beliefs. We all have limiting beliefs that form the foundation of different types of excuses that we make.(此外,你应该挑战你的限制性信念。我们都有限制性信念,这些信念构成了我们所做的不同类型借口的基础)”说明要挑战限制性信念,C选项中“limiting beliefs in our lives(生活中的限制性信念)”与之相呼应,且C项“There are many examples of limiting beliefs in our lives.(在我们的生活中,限制性信念的例子很多)”是对上文的进一步说明,且下文内容“They show up as you tell yourself that you’ll never succeed or that certain goals are out of reach. Consider replacing the negative thoughts with more positive beliefs.(它们表现为当你告诉自己你永远不会成功,或者某些目标是遥不可及的时候。考虑用更积极的信念来替代这些消极的想法)”是对C选项“examples”的例证。故选C。
10.上文“Setting goals is one of the best ways to overcome excuses. When setting goals, it’s important to be realistic about what you want to achieve. Try breaking big dreams into specific and achievable goals.(设定目标是克服借口的最好方法之一。
