文档简介

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was seven, my sister Lucy, who was four, and I were eager to be independent and earn some money to show our parents that we were capable beyond our years. The only idea I could come up with was to offer our services as gardeners, going door to door to propose weeding neighbors’ gardens for 2 dollars each.
Our proposal was fair, yet unexpectedly, only Mrs. White, living three blocks from our house, accepted the offer. Maybe that was because no one would take children’s words seriously. We agreed on the weeding at 8:00 the next morning. Having the first client, Lucy and I couldn’t contain ourselves and felt as if we had achieved a monumental task, hearts swelling with pride. We were going to be gardeners! But the excitement of the moment was fleeting, and the next day, the attraction of play and the forgetfulness of childhood overtook us. We forgot about our commitment.
Concerned about our absence, Mrs. White contacted our mother. As we walked into the kitchen through the back door at 11:00 a. m. , Mom had just hung up the phone. She asked about our little gardening business. Surprisingly, she wasn’t angry, instead, she found our initiative amusing. She explained that Mrs. White had called her, expressing disappointment over our broken promise. Faced with the mistake, we admitted our oversight and promised to make a sincere apology sometime. Instead of criticizing us, Mom busied herself with lunch preparations as if nothing had happened. We did feel a touch of guilt, but it was quickly overshadowed by what Mom said next.
As we mouthed on sandwiches, Mom casually asked, “Would you was like to go to Disneyland this afternoon ” We sprang into action, bathing and dressing, which was like getting ready for a birthday party. We rushed outside, not wanting to miss the bus that would take us downtown. The sun was high in the sky as we stood outside, our bags packed and hearts full of anticipation.

写作示范一
On the landing, Mom said, “Girls, we are not going to Disneyland today.” We froze in our tracks, our smiles fading instantly. Shock and disappointment filled our eyes. Mom looked at us seriously and said, “You made a promise to Mrs. White, and breaking it is not right. We need to go and make things right first.” Her words hit home, and we realized the importance of keeping our word. With heavy hearts, we put down our bags and prepared to face the music.
We knocked gently on Mrs. White’s door, heads down and hearts heavy. When the door opened, Mrs. White looked at us with a questioning gaze. I stammered, “Mrs. White, we're so sorry for not showing up. We know we were wrong.” Lucy chimed in with tears in her eyes. Mrs. White smiled warmly and said, “I'm glad you came to apologize. Everyone makes mistakes, but what matters is to learn from them.” We nodded, feeling a sense of relief and a new understanding of responsibility.
写作示范二
On the landing, Mom said, “Girls, we are not going to Disneyland today.” Our excitement vanished in an instant, replaced by confusion and frustration. We stared at Mom, waiting for an explanation. Mom sat us down and said, “Remember your promise to Mrs. White You can't just ignore it. We need to fix this before we do anything else.” Her calm but firm words made us realize our carelessness. We reluctantly changed our clothes and prepared to go to Mrs. White's.
We knocked gently on Mrs. White’s door, heads down and hearts heavy. When she opened the door, we both blurted out our apologies. Mrs. White listened patiently and then said, “I appreciate your honesty. It takes courage to admit your mistakes.” She invited us in and gave us some cookies. As we ate, she talked to us about the importance of responsibility. We left her house with a new - found sense of integrity, knowing that we had learned a valuable lesson.
【答案】
On the landing, Mom said, “Girls, we are not going to Disneyland today.” Lucy’s eyes widened in disbelief. Our excitement gave way to disappointment. “But Mom, you just promised!” I exclaimed, confusion clouding my thoughts. She looked at us seriously and explained, “I didn’t keep my promise either, and now you know how it hurts. You need to learn that actions have consequences. Disneyland can await, but learning to be responsible and trustworthy can’t.” Mom’s words hit us hard, the white lie making us realize the gravity of our mistake. Instead of moving to Disneyland, we had to go back to confront our responsibilities and make things right.
We knocked gently on Mrs. White’s door, heads down and hearts heavy. When she opened it, we saw a hint of surprise in her eyes. We quickly apologized for not keeping our promise and for letting her down. Mrs. White smiled warmly and forgave us, saying that she understood how easily children could forget. Together, we worked hard to remove the weeds. Mom taught us a true lesson which would stay with us forever. It was a lesson about the importance of keeping our word and the impact our action could have on others. That day, we not only weeded Mrs. White’s garden but also planted the seeds of responsibility and integrity within ourselves.
