Stand in front of a mirror and look at it. How much do you really know about the person in it
To help students know themselves, schools across China are providing more classes and activities on self-knowledge. Liu Yue, a middle school teacher, has recently taught her students a useful tool. “It’s called the Johari Window, developed by two US psychologists(心理学家),” said Liu. It has four areas about one’s self open area(that everyone knows), hidden area(that only you know), blind area(that everyone knows except you) and unknown area(that nobody knows). Using this tool, the students knew themselves better.
“I’m most curious about my blind area,” said Yang Manqi. “So I did a survey. ” The results showed Yang easily got nervous because of procrastination(拖延症). “That’s a terrible habit I’ve never realized!” Yang said. “The unknown area is the most amazing,” said Sun Boyin. “Everyone has great potential. ” “At first, I did poorly in math. But I did lots of math exercises. Now I’m better at math. The unknown part of my math ability is getting clearer!” Sun added.
When it came to the hidden area, Li Yixuan said, “I’m scared to show my secrets. ” Then my deskmate said his favorite cartoon is Snoopy. I thought:Am I brave enough to show my childish side Perhaps not, I want my classmates to see me as a thoughtful person, not a silly kid. But then I realized I didn’t find my deskmate silly. And what I thought was that he was brave to be himself. ”
“Show yourself and make yourself better—that’s the best lesson I have learned,” Li told the researchers.
