Analysis of teaching material
The topic of this unit is the first day at senior high,which plays an important role in students’ learning of high school. This section is the first lesson of this unit, which includes warming up, pre-reading and reading, so the lesson type is reading class, the goal of the lesson is to improve students skimming, scanning and careful reading skills. The reading part is about “Meng Hao’s first day at senior high. He wrote a diary about his experiences and his feelings at his senior high. The text type is a diary. So students should grasp the main elements of diary such as the date and the events. The time order of this passage is very clear, including before going to school, arriving at school, during the English class and after English class. Through the analysis of Meng Hao’s feelings, I’d like to encourage students to love their new school, be positive and have confidence towards the school new life .
Teaching objectives
Language competence ① Students could grasp the main idea and detail information of passage by skimming and scanning skills. ② Students could retell Meng Hao’s first day at senior high. (2) Cultural awareness ① Students could realize the differences between China and other western countries. ② Students are able to build Chinese cultural confidence and spread our excellent learning culture to the world. (3) Thinking quality ① Students could analyze the structure of the text and improve their creative thinking by using the mind map to describe their experiences and feelings at senior high. ② Students could learn from Meng Hao and cultivate their good habits at senior high. (4) Learning ability ① Students are supposed to discuss with group members to think about how to do at senior high. ② Students are capable of improving self-learning ability by reading the text and finishing the task. ③ Students could use individual work, group work and class work to enhance the efficiency of learning.

Teaching key points ① To improve students’ reading ability and help them have a good understanding of Meng Hao’s first day. ② To develop the students reading skills by skimming, scanning and careful reading. (2) Teaching different points ① To assist students to conclude Meng Hao’s first day through analyzing the time order of his diary. ② To encourage students to learn about Meng Hao’s attitude and study hard for the future.
Analysis of students
Students are very familiar with the topic of this unit's theme "First day at senior high", since all of students are the freshmen of senior high, and they may don’t know how to adapt to this new high school. By learning this lesson, students would know how to make the most of their time at senior high.
