文档简介

21 years after graduating from college, I became a high school English teacher. During my first term as an educator, the kids taught me about high school and life, and what was important to them. It had been 25 years since I graduated from high school, so I had a lot to learn. I listened, took notes, and asked many questions.
My students had more hardship (艰难) than what I had been familiar with at their age. Understanding their situations was not easy, but loving them came easily.
When my second term began, my classroom welcomed a group of new students, including one young man who lit up the space every time he passed through the door. David stood tall at six feet and four inches. His strong body gave him the appearance of a grown man. His wide smile and bright eyes charmed every person in the classroom.
He was smart, too. David seemed to know the answers to everything. For weeks, he controlled the atmosphere of my class. He was very active. He led group discussions, encouraged others to participate, and earned the highest grades. I was so impressed by him and his abilities that I didn’t ask many questions. I didn’t really take time to get to know him as I had to be with my first-term students.
A few weeks passed, and we entered the month of February. David walked quietly into the classroom. His usual smile disappeared, and he looked cold. I asked if he was okay, but he didn’t respond. I encouraged him to participate, but he refused. He was just silent and emotionless. I was puzzled, embarrassed, upset and also angry about his behavior in class.
Finally, I called another student to my office. I had noticed him often walking in the hallways with David. “Do you know what’s wrong with David ” I asked. He replied, “Oh, Mrs Green, his mom’s birthday is coming, but she was just found to have cancer.”

写作示范一
第一段
I was shocked and sad. My heart ached for David, and I couldn't shake off the overwhelming sense of guilt. How could I have missed the signs of his distress I recalled every interaction we had, from his enthusiastic participation in class to his sudden withdrawal. Determined to make a difference, I delved deep into researching cancer support groups. I found one that organized regular meetings for patients and their families, sharing experiences and providing emotional support. I also met with the school counselor, who suggested we start a fundraising campaign among the students to help with medical expenses. I was resolved to do everything in my power to support David and his family.
第二段
Hoping to comfort him, I asked, “Can I give you a hug ” David's eyes widened in surprise, and for a moment, he seemed frozen. Then, ever so slowly, he nodded. As I wrapped my arms around him, I felt his body shudder. “David, you're so strong, and your mom is too. There are so many people here who care about you,” I murmured softly. His grip on me tightened, and he finally let out the tears he had been holding back. After a while, when he pulled away, his eyes were red - rimmed but there was a glimmer of hope. The next few days, his classmates started to notice his situation. They formed study groups to help him catch up on his studies and would often invite him to hang out during breaks. With the collective support, David gradually regained his spirit, showing the world his unwavering resilience.

第一段
I was shocked and sad. A heavy weight settled in my chest as I realized the gravity of David's situation. I felt ashamed for my earlier impatience. I spent hours on the internet, looking for local resources that could offer practical help. I discovered a community center that provided free transportation for cancer patients to and from the hospital. I immediately made contact and shared the information with David's family. I also had a long conversation with the school counselor, who agreed to arrange private counseling sessions for David. I knew that every small step could make a big difference for him.
第二段
Hoping to comfort him, I asked, “Can I give you a hug ” David looked at me with a mix of surprise and longing. He hesitated for a second before leaning in. As I held him, I whispered, “You're not alone in this. We're all here to support you and your mom.” His body relaxed, and he let out a deep sigh. “Thank you, Mrs Green,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. In the following days, the class came together. Some students made handmade cards for David's mom, while others offered to help with his chores at home. David was touched by the outpouring of love. Slowly but surely, he started to open up again, his smile returning bit by bit, a testament to the power of love and support.
参考答案
I was shocked and sad. I decided to do something for David during his hard time. The next day, after school, I stopped him at my desk. “I’m sorry,” I said, placing my hand on his left shoulder. “I’ve learned what’s going on with you. Why not just take a week’s leave ” David replied, “My mom won’t allow it for fear that it will affect my studies. But I’m too upset, and unable to focus on studying.” He almost cried.
Hoping to comfort him, I asked, “Can I give you a hug ” David bent down and hugged me. When he stood straight, I said, “David, continue being active in class. Your good performance in school can cheer your mom up and help her recover.” He looked at me and nodded. From then on, David worked harder than before. On a Sunday morning, I visited his mom, which made David and me more connected. The next year, he was admitted to a great university. What’s more, his mom pulled through months later.
