Using job search websites can save you time and energy, allowing you to focus on other aspects of your job hunt. For example, the U. S. News job search platform offers easy-to-use filters that help you narrow down job options by location, salary, and posting date. Below is a list of some of the best job search websites for your reference:
CareerBuilder
CareerBuilder offers job listings at various levels and has an app for reviewing jobs on the go. It includes features like “recommended skills” to help assess your qualifications and personalized career tests for better guidance. However, the site is filled with ads, which can be distracting, and some job listings may be outdated, leading to wasting time.
Glassdoor
Known for its anonymous company reviews, Glassdoor also lists job opportunities. It’s free to use and provide salary estimates for positions, offering valuable insights for job seekers. However, the site lacks advanced search filters, which can make finding the right job more challenging. Additionally, employee reviews can be biased, so it’s important to take them with caution.
Indeed
Indeed is a popular platform with a wide range of job listings, including remote work opportunities. It offers a mobile app for easy access, salary information, and company reviews. While it’s free to use, some job postings may be outdated, which can be frustrating. Also, the user interface could be more visually appealing and flexible to enhance the overall experience.
Wellfound
Wellfound is another job search platform that’s particularly useful for finding tech jobs. While it provides access to numerous listings and valuable company insights, its search functionality could be improved for better precision. Compared with the other sites, its database is relatively small and focused mainly on positions in startups.

While I was exploring my grandparents’ basement, a book that resembled a folder caught my eye. Curiosity awakened, I leaned in closer and noticed yellowed papers and black-and-white photos spilling from its edges. The label, written in Spanish, read “Historia Antigua”. As I opened it, I recognized my grandfather’s distinctive handwriting — unmistakably Argentine. The first words struck me: I’m not sure what I’m about to write, but I’ve had this idea for a number of years now, since a conversation with my father when I turned thirteen and had my Bar Mitzvah (成人礼) …
I had always longed to learn more about our family history, and now, here it was before me. I was holding a treasure collection of letters, diaries, travelogues, and news clippings — documents recording centuries of our family’s past, passed down from my grandfather’s father. It was more than just written records; it was an oral history preserved in writing.
For months, I kept my discovery a secret, stealing quiet moments to read more. One day, my grandfather — Abuelo — led me to the basement, smiling as he pointed to the open binder. “You’ve been reading my stories,” he said. His face lit up when I admitted it, and then together we spent hours reading Historia Antigua, discussing family trees, identity, and history. Abuelo explained names and places in Spanish, Arabic, and Hebrew — each conversation deepening my understanding of our family history.
As a journalist, I began asking deeper questions — why my great-grandparents fled Damascus, why my great-grandfather traveled the Andes by horse-drawn cart. Through these stories, I came to realize how time steals family history. By the time the storytellers are gone, all we have left are dates and places. If you can, ask your relatives now. Record their stories — because family stories are the threads that connect us to who we are and where we come from.
4. Why did the author read Historia Antigua carefully
A. To relive his childhood memories.
B. To learn Argentine culture.
C. To discover his grandparents’ story.
D. To explore family history.
5. What was Abuelo’s attitude towards the author reading Historia Antigua
A. Favorable. B. Indifferent. C. Tolerant. D. Disapproval.
6. What does the author recommend for preserving family history
A. Becoming the family storyteller.
B. Bridging the generation gap.
C. Documenting family stories.
D. Centering only on dates and places.
7. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. Secret Discovered in the Basement
B. Historia Antigua: A Family Legacy
C. Long-Lost Stories of Ancestors
D. Unforgotten Memories of Grandfather
C
Touchscreens are going hands-free with a new device that allows users to control smartphones using only their tongues.
MouthPad, a retainer-like (类似牙套的) trackpad chip that sits on the roof of the mouth, can sense tongue movements, enabling users to scroll, type, make calls, and even play chess with a click of their tongue. “It is a mouse for your mouth,” said Corbin Halliwill, a software engineer at Augmental, the company that created the device.
Augmental developed MouthPad to assist those living with disabilities, especially individuals with hand impairments or paralysis. It connects to any tablet, phone, or computer via Bluetooth. However, Halliwill mentioned that MouthPad has attracted interest from a wider audience beyond its intended market. Professionals who use their hands extensively, such as mechanics or surgeons, have shown interest in the device. Users have been testing the product, including a current college freshman majoring in mechanical engineering, who has made MouthPad her primary input device for her computer and phone. According to Halliwill, she even uses the device to type math problems, which has impressed her family and friends.
The MouthPad is clear around the teeth, and its center features a golden touchpad, which serves as the contact point for the tongue. Inside, there is a force sensor that detects left and right clicks, or it can be mapped to other hotkey functions. On the side, a small bump houses the Bluetooth and wireless charging battery, which sticks out and rests against the cheek. However, Augmental doesn’t recommend leaving it in while eating, although it is safe to drink with it in. Halliwill mentioned that he wears it in the office while drinking water or his morning coffee.
The company aims to expand the technology in the near future, offering new possibilities for users. Potential additions include voice control and wheelchair integration. The current battery lasts about five hours, but Augmental hopes to extend it to eight hours in the next version.
8. Corbin Halliwill compares MouthPad to ________.
A. a smartphone B. a retainer C. a typewriter D. a mouse
9. What can be inferred about MouthPad from Paragraph 3
A. It is primarily used by college students.
B. It was originally designed for normal people.
C It can assist in solving all the problems in life.
D. It is gaining interest beyond its initial target group.
10. What is Paragraph 5 mainly about
A. The current features of MouthPad.
B. The limitations of the present device.
C. The future improvements of MouthPad.
D. The marketing strategies of the company.
11. What’s the purpose of the text
A. To introduce an innovative device.
B. To detail MouthPad’s production process.
C. To promote the development of Augmental.
D. To explore the hardships faced by the disabled.
D
Hibernation — the state of being asleep for the winter — is a crucial biological strategy for many mammals, enabling them to conserve energy and survive when resources are scarce. For humans, traveling to nearby stars like Proxima Centauri — 4.24 light-years away — could take decades, even at speeds near the speed of light. This makes hibernation a potential solution for long-duration space missions. Recently, a team of German researchers, led by Gerald Kerth at the University of Greifswald, focused their attention on bats to gain a deeper understanding of hibernation and, to some extent, shed light on potential applications for space travel.
Kerth and his colleagues studied the role of red blood cells during hibernation. They conducted an analysis of red blood cells taken from both hibernating and non-hibernating bats, as well as human blood samples. Understanding how these blood cells function during hibernation is important because hibernating animals still need to transport oxygen to their tissues, even when their body temperature drops significantly.
The team discovered that red blood cells change shape in response to changes in pressure and blood vessel (血管) size. This prompted them to investigate whether extreme conditions during hibernation could stimulate changes in red blood cells. They found that when the internal temperature of the hibernating species decreased from 37.2℃ to about 22.8℃, the structure of red blood cells in all the species examined underwent significant changes. These cells became less flexible and more rigid, indicating physiological (生理的) adaptations designed to conserve energy in cold conditions.
The study also revealed a key difference: when the temperature was lowered further to 10℃, the bat cells continued to undergo changes, while human blood cells stalled out, hardly making any further progress. This suggests that bat blood cells are more adaptable to extreme cold — a feature that could inform future medical practices.
While applying hibernation to space travel is still a long-term goal, the research findings could lead to significant advancements in medicine. Scientists believe that understanding how to control the mechanical properties (特性) of red blood cells could enhance the circulation of medications and improve treatments.
12. What did Gerald Kerth’s study focus on
A. The prospects of future space travel.
B. The benefits of animal hibernation.
C. The exploration of bats’ hibernation.
D. The impacts of human hibernation.
13. What did the team discover about red blood cells at lower temperatures in Paragraph 3
A. They increased their flexibility.
B. They underwent structural changes.
C. They transformed blood vessel size.
D. They stayed the same for cold adaptation.
14. What does the underlined phrase “stalled out” in Paragraph 4 mean
A. Changed rapidly. B. Steadily increased.
C. Responded actively. D. Nearly stopped.
15. What aspect of this research’s finding is emphasized in the last paragraph
A. Its great potential. B. Its theoretical basis.
C. Its official application. D. Its slim possibility.

The crowd buzzed with energy, the air thick with tension and excitement. Jack quickly fixed his gaze on Kevin Beadle — the boy wearing flashy, expensive sneakers, a confident grin on his face. Everyone knew that with those shoes Beadle would surely win with ease. Jack felt a pan g of jealousy but didn’t speak. He just took a deep breath, preparing for the challenge — a 10-lap running race.
The whistle blew, and the race began. Jack quickly moved forward, but after five laps, his legs grew heavy, as if his feet were sinking into the ground. Despite his efforts, the other runners, especially Beadle, took the lead.
Jack’s heart pounded, and the exhaustion in his legs was a constant temptation to give up. But he pushed through, focusing on his breath to keep himself moving forward. By the seventh lap, he found a rhythm, and though Beadle remained far ahead, Jack forced himself not to look at him. He silently urged himself forward, “Don’t give up.”
As the race entered its final stages, competitors began to tire, their steps growing heavier. Jack, however, was just warming up. He passed runner after runner, making him motivated. Beadle still led, looking as fresh as ever, but Jack didn’t take notice of him. His only focus was the finish line.
By the time the final lap began, Jack’s steps had grown heavier, and his entire body felt as though it were being crushed under an invisible weight. Still, he was determined to push himself to the absolute limit. His pace quickened, and he gradually closed the gap with Beadle. Beadle seemed to sense someone behind him. He turned around, saw Jack drawing closer, and said with a mocking tone, “You really think you can catch up to me ”
Jack ignored him, keeping his gaze fixed on the finish line, pushing himself with all his remaining strength. With a burst of speed, he surged past Beadle, racing toward the end.

The significance of waste sorting cannot be ignored. First, it helps conserve natural resources. By recycling materials like paper, plastic, and glass, we reduce the demand for raw materials. Second, proper waste sorting can reduce pollution. For example, organic waste can be turned into valuable fertilizer and returned to the earth. Therefore, everyone should become familiar with the color-coded bins on campus and adopt habits of reducing, reusing, and recycling.
Small actions can have a big impact. Together we can create a cleaner and greener campus.

The moment Jack passed Beadle, the crowd erupted. Gasps of surprise filled the air, and wide-eyed spectators leaned forward in disbelief. Jack felt a rush of excitement, his heartbeat pounding like war drums in his chest. With each cheer, his legs seemed to grow stronger. Meanwhile, when Beadle realized he was no longer in the lead, his confident smile faded, replaced by a flicker of frustration and urgency. He pushed harder, pumping his arms and driving his legs forward, but it was too late. Jack remained determined, continuing to pull ahead, his focus locked on the finish line, his mind energized by the crowd’s cheers. With one final burst of energy, Jack surged forward.
Finally, with a wave of cheers, Jack crossed the finish line first. A sense of relief and happiness washed over him as he raised his arms in triumph. Then, Beadle crossed the line shortly after. His thoughts turned to the flashy, expensive shoes, once a symbol of confidence, they now felt like a burden, weighing him down. As he walked toward Jack, he extended his hand, his voice full of admiration. “You beat me,” he said, still struggling with the outcome. Jack shook his hand, “Never give up,” he replied. The two exchanged a silent and respectful nod. The crowd’s cheers continued to echo, and Jack knew this victory was a demonstration of perseverance and unyielding determination.
