(2024·安徽合肥·模拟预测)Chinese innovation brings us closer to the microbots seen in Disney’s “Big Hero 6.” In Beijing, a small bionic robot, about 2 centimeters long, moved easily through its environment. When it reached a dead end, it quickly retreated with tiny steps. Professor Yan Xiaojun and his team from Beihang University created this robot, which weighs less than two grams and has a projection area similar to two fingernails.
Making robots as small as insects is more difficult than making larger ones. Small machines cannot use traditional motors, making the search for a compact power system a global challenge. “Integrating batteries and circuit boards into the robot made it too heavy to move,” explained Liu Zhivei, an associate professor at Beihang University.
In 2009, Yan observed that high direct current voltage could cause sustained vibrations. usually associated with alternating current. This insight led to the idea of using it for a tiny drone’s wings. It wasn’t until 2017 that Yan began designing a self-powered insect-sized robot. After three years of testing various designs, the team was inspired by the leopard’s movements and created “BHMbot”, a biomimetic robotic insect that can run faster than cockroaches and turn more agilely.

(2025·全国·模拟预测)A team of Chinese scientists recently invented a micro-motion sensor that allows people to control devices and type text by blinking (眨眼睛).
The sensor is fixed to special eyeglasses and applied through two real-time human-machine interfaces — a smart home control system and a wireless hands-free typing system. It makes direct contact with the wearer’s skin around the eyes and responds to changes in pressure when the wearer blinks intentionally to trigger (触发) a computer response.
“It is like a third hand,” said Professor Hu, who led the research. She said the sensor can help people control devices when both hands are occupied, or help people with disabilities to communicate and perform daily tasks.
In the new study, Hu and her colleagues designed the sensor based on what’s called a triboelectric nanogenerator — or TENG — to detect the motion of the skin around the corners of eyes, which has never been considered as a good trigger signal source. When the TENG sensor is attached to the glasses, the minute muscle movement of a closing eye momentarily pushes the sensor’s layers together, generating an electrical signal that can be reliably measured. It is super-sensitive, stable, easy and cheap. The team is now applying for a patent in China and overseas. In the near future, they expect to see it on the market.
The sensor can initiate tasks such as turning a light on or off. When the glasses are connected to a computer screen, the wearer can blink as a cursor (光标) passes over different keys, typing out words. “This TENG-based micro-motion sensor is distinct and unique in its fundamental mechanism, which provides a novel design concept for intelligent sensor techniques and shows great potential for application in human-machine interfaces,” said Hu. “For our next step, we would like to explore the great potential of TENG sensors in intelligent robots.”
9.Which aspect of the sensor is paragraph 2 mainly about
A.Its operation process. B.Its working principles. C.Its practical applications. D.Its theoretical foundation.
10.Who can benefit from the sensor according to Professor Hu
A.A blind teenager desiring to see the light. B.A boy wanting to chat with friends overseas.
C.A secretary incapable of typing words rapidly. D.A lady unable to open the door with full hands.
11.What does the author say about the TENG sensor
A.It is responsive and affordable. B.It keeps track of eye movements.
C.It is bound to be commercialized. D.It appears to be the best of its kind.
12.What’s the future research direction for Professor Hu’s team
A.Creating novel human machine interfaces. B.Enhancing wireless communication systems.
C.Applying their sensors to smart machines. D.Equipping glasses with micro-motion sensors.
