Lucy and her friend Jack loved being at school every day because they both really enjoyed music lessons. Lucy began playing two instruments, the piano and the violin, but she enjoyed singing more. She dreamed of being a pop star like Alex Pepper one day. Jack had a guitar and played pop and rock music very well. He wanted to be the coolest guitar player in the world.
One day, their music teacher, Mr. Brown, said to the class, “We’re going to have a music competition here at school next Friday. If you want to enter, you must sing or play a song on the school stage. Alex Pepper will be here that day for his concert at City Stadium, so I wrote to his manager and asked him to come and give you some guidance. He’ s going to decide the best performer and invite him or her to his concert.”
Lucy and Jack determined to take part in the competition as a team. They chose a song called I’ll help you! They practiced on the playground in their spare time. Lucy made such great progress that Jack was deeply absorbed in her singing and often said admirably, “How sweet your voice is!” While they pracitced, the branches of the trees around the playground were swaying(摇摆) in the wind as if they were enjoying their performance.
On the afternoon of the competition, all the students were waiting in the school hall for Alex Pepper to arrive. When he walked in with Mr. Brown, everyone clapped. Alex smiled and waved and then he and Mr. Brown sat down on special seats in front of the school stage.
Then the competition started. Lots of other students sang before Jack and Lucy. An older girl named Mary sang very well. Some students shouted “More! More!” when she finished. “She’s going to win,” thought Lucy. Soon Mr. Brown pointed to Jack and Lucy and called out that it was their turn.

第一段
Lucy began to tremble unknowingly when she stood in the middle of the stage. Her knees were shaking, and she felt like her legs would give way at any moment. The bright stage lights seemed to be blinding her, and the expectant eyes of the audience made her even more nervous. However, when she caught sight of Jack's unwavering gaze, a sense of calm washed over her. She took a deep, steadying breath and let the music guide her. As the first notes of the song filled the air, her voice was a bit shaky. But as she got into the rhythm, memories of their countless practice sessions flooded her mind. She remembered the times when she wanted to give up but Jack's encouragement kept her going. Now, with every lyric she sang, her confidence grew. The audience, who had been whispering at first, fell silent, completely entranced by the harmonious blend of Lucy's voice and Jack's guitar. Some students were leaning forward in their seats, their eyes wide with amazement, while others were gently swaying to the music.
第二段

Lucy's eyes widened in disbelief, and she turned to Jack, who was equally stunned. For a moment, they just stood there, frozen in shock. Then, a huge grin spread across their faces, and they threw their arms around each other. They walked up to the stage, their steps light and buoyant. Alex Pepper handed them the golden trophy, saying, “Your performance was truly exceptional. It was full of passion and authenticity.” After the ceremony, they were surrounded by their excited classmates, all eager to offer their congratulations. Later, at Alex Pepper's concert, Lucy and Jack took the stage again. Their performance was even more outstanding, and the audience was on their feet, cheering and clapping. 第一段
Lucy began to tremble unknowingly when she stood in the middle of the stage. Her hands were shaking so much that she was afraid she would drop the microphone. The noise of the audience seemed to be closing in on her, and she felt a sense of panic rising within her. But then, she remembered the reason why they had chosen this song - “I’ll help you!”. Jack was there to support her, just like in their practices. She looked at him, and his warm smile gave her the strength she needed. As the music started, she took a leap of faith and began to sing. At first, her voice was barely audible, but as she focused on the lyrics and the melody, her voice grew stronger. She could feel the rhythm of the song coursing through her veins, and soon, she was completely immersed in the performance. Jack's guitar playing was like a safety net, guiding her through every note. The audience, who had been skeptical at first, were now nodding their heads in approval. Some of the younger students were looking at them with admiration, their eyes shining with excitement. The stage lights seemed to be shining brighter now, as if they were spotlighting their transformation from nervous beginners to confident performers.

The suspense in the hall was palpable, and everyone was on the edge of their seats. Finally, Alex Pepper stood up and walked to the center of the stage.
