文档简介

阅读下面材料,根据内容及所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Steven Green was a hard-working man who worked all his life to support his family. He never finished college, so he had to take hard labor jobs around the neighborhood. He worked as a builder and a carpenter through the years. He often helped his neighbors whenever he was needed. However, as he grew older, he could no longer do these jobs. His knees grew weak, and his health condition made it difficult for him to do hard work.
Steven’s kids didn’t live in the same state as him and could only send him a small sum of money because they also led a poor life. Unfortunately, Steven experienced constant physical pain after years of hard work, and he needed to take medicine every day. The money offered by his kids was only enough for food, and his savings were small. Realizing that he needed more money, Steven decided to get a job again. He eventually found a job as a doorkeeper. At first, his salary was enough to pay for the groceries and the medicine he needed. However, due to his advanced age, he started to need more medicine, which cost a lot.
To pay the growing bills, Steven began to take items from his home to a second-hand store to get some money. One day, as he was carrying an old radio to the store, his neighbor, Ben, saw him. “Mr. Green, it’s so good to see you! How have you been ” Ben asked. “I’m doing great. I’m just selling some stuff at home that I don’t need anymore for some cash. Being weak is terrible when you’re old, so take care of yourself when you are young, alright ” he said almost jokingly. Ben nodded.
“Thanks for the tip, Mr. Green!” he said before waving goodbye. That same day, Steven was cooking dinner when he heard the doorbell ring. Not expecting anyone, he walked curiously to the door.

七、主旨升华句(英文)
In the face of hardships, a small act of kindness from a neighbor can light up the darkest days, just like Ben's help to Steven.
True neighbors are those who notice the struggles of others and reach out a helping hand without hesitation, as Ben did for Steven.
Even in poverty and old age, the warmth of human connection can bring hope and strength, as demonstrated by the relationship between Steven and Ben.
A simple gesture of giving, like the jacket with a hidden check, can change someone's life and show the beauty of humanity in the community.
Hard times may test us, but the kindness and compassion of others, such as Ben's towards Steven, can make us believe in the goodness of the world.
八、写作示范
示范一
Paragraph 1:
Surprisingly, he saw Ben standing there with a jacket in his arms. Ben smiled warmly and said, “Mr. Green, I found this old jacket in my closet. I don't wear it anymore, and I thought it might be useful to you.” Steven was taken aback, his eyes widening in surprise. He stammered, “Oh, Ben, that's so kind of you, but I can't just take it.” Ben insisted, pushing the jacket into Steven's hands. “Please, Mr. Green. It's really of no use to me.” Steven finally accepted it, his heart filled with gratitude.
Paragraph 2:
“Ben must have forgotten about the check in the pocket,” Steven thought. As he unfolded the jacket to put it away, a check fluttered out. His eyes bulged when he saw the amount. It was enough to cover his medicine expenses for months. Overwhelmed with emotions, Steven decided to go to Ben's house right away. When he arrived, Ben opened the door with a big smile. Steven handed the check back, saying, “Ben, this is too much.” But Ben just patted him on the shoulder and said, “Keep it, Mr. Green. We're neighbors, and we should help each other.” Steven's eyes welled up with tears, and he knew that he wasn't alone in his struggles anymore.
示范二
Paragraph 1:
Surprisingly, he saw Ben standing there with a jacket in his arms. Ben looked a bit nervous but determined. “Mr. Green,” he said, “I brought this jacket for you. It's winter coming, and I thought you might need it.” Steven was touched but also a bit confused. He said, “Thank you, Ben, but you really didn't have to.” Ben shook his head. “No, Mr. Green. You've always been so kind to us in the neighborhood. Let me do something for you now.” Steven took the jacket, feeling a warmth spreading in his chest.
Paragraph 2:
“Ben must have forgotten about the check in the pocket,” Steven thought. After Ben left, Steven went to hang the jacket in the closet. As he did, something fell out. He bent down and picked up a check. His hands trembled as he realized what it meant. He couldn't believe Ben's generosity. The next day, Steven made a special meal and invited Ben over. When Ben came, Steven hugged him tightly and said, “Ben, your help means the world to me. I don't know how to repay you.” Ben smiled and said, “You don't have to. Just knowing I could help makes me happy.” From that day on, their friendship grew even deeper, and Steven's life became a little easier.
【答案】范文
Surprisingly he saw Ben standing there with a jacket in his arms. “Earlier today, I noticed you weren’t wearing a jacket. It’s getting cold these days, so I want to give you this jacket as a gift,” Ben said, handing Steven the coat. Steven accepted the gift and thanked Ben a lot. The next day, Steven wore the jacket to work. Feeling cold, he put his hands inside the pockets. Then he found there was something inside. To his surprise, it was a check for $ 200!
“Ben must have forgotten about the check inside the pocket,” Steven thought. He then went to Ben’s house. “I believe this is yours,” Steven said, showing Ben the check. But Ben shook his head and said the check was Steven’s. Seeing Steven’s confused face, Ben explained Steven had helped his mom a lot and that he had never had a chance to repay Steven’s kindness before. Therefore, when he realized Steven needed help, he decided to reach out. Hearing those words, Steven was so touched that he hugged Ben tightly.
