Using an app to learn a language is handy because you can follow lessons and check your progress anywhere. Below is a list of my favorite ways to learn languages from my phone.
Google Translate
Most of apps teach you a language through exercises and progressive steps, while Google’ s simply tells you how to write and speak anything you run through it. Still,I think it's a great choice for beginners. I like to learn languages with Google Translate for two main reasons: its long list of supported languages, and the several language learning methods.
Rosetta Stone
Rosetta Stone is designed specifically for helping travelers learn basic words and phrases. There’ s also a phrasebook with basic words and words related to restaurants, hotels, and getting around— all very useful for someone traveling. If you want, you can buy extra phrasebooks covering topics like shopping, colors, emergencies, and so on.
Busuu
Busuu’ s app is user-friendly. You get to pick where you’ d like to begin in the course. The words and phrases you’ ll learn are especially helpful for beginners who might find themselves around people speaking a foreign language and need to learn words in real situations quickly. However, Busuu doesn’ t support as many languages as some of these other apps.
Memrise
Memrise isn't as easy to use for quick translations as Google Translate, but it is easy to work with, supports offline courses, and lets you learn a number of languages. You can start off simple or move to more advanced lessons directly. I find Memrise to be unique in how it teaches new words and phrases. They put words into sentences alongside words that sound similar in your language, which makes it easier to remember.
21. Which apps are suitable for beginners according to the writer
A. Busuu and Memrise. B. Rosetta Stone and Memrise.
C. Google Translate and Busuu. D. Google Translate and and Rosetta Stone.
22. What is special about Memrise
A. It is designed for travelers. B. It has an advantage of quick translation.
C. It supports a large number of languages. D. It has an unusual method of teaching vocabulary.
23. In which part of a magazine may this text appear
A. History. B. Business. C. Health. D. Technology.

In school we learned about the Earth. We learned that rivers flow from higher ground to lower ground. They usually end at a bigger river or go into a lake or ocean. I can see that every day in Chicago.
Our river goes into the lake. It's a giant lake. We used to go fishing on the river every summer. Most days you would find me and my grandfather there, fishing. My father was busy working for the city. I did not know what his job was. He said it was in the Sanitary and Ship Canal.
My grandfather would take me to the river. “In the old days,” he said, “this was a clean stream. Now look at it. It is dirty.” Sometimes we even saw dead fish floating on it.
When we brought the fish home, my mother would throw them out. “We can’ t eat this. This is dirty, bad fish.” She sounded angry. So my grandfather and I stopped bringing the fish home. Sometimes we would go to fish and throw them back. But mostly we just stayed at home. We were sad about it.
Then one day my father was so busy that he was not at home. That New Year’ s Day he worked, too. My mother was worried, “It is too cold.” But he went anyway.
Then two days later the newspaper said, “It is a miracle(奇迹)!” That was the headline. I read the article. It told how the workers on the Sanitary and Ship Canal had done something impossible. They had changed the Chicago River completely. They dug such a great hole that the river rushed away from the lake. It now went to the west. I was excited. So was my grandfather. He said, “Now we can go fishing this summer.”
We both laughed. So did my mother. My father smiled a lot, all day long.
24. What is the purpose of the first paragraph
A. To show the miracle of nature. B. To introduce the topic of the article.
C. To explain the concept of the Earth. D. To test readers' knowledge about rivers.
25. Why did the author stop bringing home fish
A. The fish were too dirty to eat. B. He wanted to protect the river.
C. His mother disliked eating fish. D. The fish in the river were all dead.
26. What miracle did the author's father and his co-workers create
A. They saved all the fish in the Chicago River.
B. They kept the Chicago River incredibly clean.
C. They dug a huge hole to store the polluted water.
D. They changed the direction of the Chicago River.
27. Which of the following words can best describe the author's father
A. Devoted. B. Confident. C. Out-going. D. Open-minded.
C
It is difficult for a teacher to decide whether to allow students to listen to music in the classroom.Every time students need to write an essay or work on a problem, they say, “Can I put my headphones on I think better that way.” But is that really true Does music help concentrate
Research offers little to support the idea that listening to music improves concentration. In one small study,133 students performed reading tasks while listening to either light music , hip hop, or no music at all. Students who performed the reading tasks in silence scored the highest. Music with a higher intensity(强度) like hip hop was more distracting and had a bad effect on task performance.
Volume(音量) plays a more important role than the type of music. The study found that the louder the music, the worse the performance in concentration. The type of music didn’ t matter. Data from the study showed once again that silence was the best environment to improve concentration.
However, music has a positive effect on work performance. Studies have showed that listening to music leads to positive changes in mood, as well as creativity. In fact, in music-listening cultures, which students are certainly part of, there's actually a change in mood when the music is taken away.
It's hard to persuade my students that music doesn't help with their concentration. Taj,a senior told me, “I wouldn’ t be able to concentrate if I were listening to music and trying to read. However, when Iwrite, I feel like music helps me concentrate deeply. I don't have writer's block. It's easy for me to put my words on paper.”
“Maybe not with reading, but when it comes to math, listening to music certainly helps,” Danela told me. “You could actually be singing along with what you’ re listening to and doing well in math.”
28. What does the underlined word“distracting” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Causing great excitement. B. Making something attractive.
C. Making someone feel frightened. D. Driving someone's attention away.
29. What can we learn from the small study
A. The volume of music affects concentration.
B. Music can't improve people's mood and creativity.
C. Different types of music lead to different performances.
D. Students do well in reading tasks while listening to music.
30. What do Taj and Danela have in common
A. They use music to help with their paper-writing.
B. They believe music helps concentration in any case.
C. They can't focus on reading while listening to music.
D. They don't listen to music while doing writing problems.
31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. Is Music Related to Reading B. Should Students Listen to Music
C. Does Music Help with Concentration D. Can Music Change Reading Style

A little boy almost thought of himself as the unluckiest child in the world because poliomyelitis(小儿麻痹症) made him unable to walk like normal people. He seldom played with his classmates, and when the teacher asked him to answer questions, he always lowered his head without a word.
One spring, the boy's father asked for some young trees from the neighbor. He wanted to plant them in the front of the house. He told his children to plant a tree each person. The father said to the children,“Whose tree grows best,I will buy him or her a favorite gift.” The boy also wanted to get his father’ s gift. But seeing his brothers and sisters carrying water to water the trees happily, he had a terrible idea: he hoped the tree he planted would die soon. So he never attended to it.
A few days later, when the little boy went to see his tree again, he was surprised to find it not only didn’ t die, but also grew some fresh leaves, and compared with the trees of his brother and sister, his appeared greener and more vital. His father kept his promise, bought the little boy his favorite gift and said to him, “From the tree you planted, it can be seen that you will become a great person when you grow up.”

第二节(满分25分)
Paragraph 1:
One day, the little boy lay on bed, wondering why his tree can grow so well. He couldn't figure it out as he had never taken care of it. Then he got up and went to the tree. As he was standing there, he noticed that the roots of the tree had broken through the hard soil and reached deeper underground. It suddenly dawned on him that the tree had to struggle and fight for survival on its own, without relying on anyone's care. Just like him, who had to face his physical disability alone. Maybe, he thought, he should also be strong and strive to grow like this tree.
Paragraph 2:
Since then, the little boy became different. He started to participate in class actively, raising his hand high to answer questions. He also began to interact with his classmates, playing games and sharing stories with them. He was no longer the shy and self-pitying child. He practiced walking with great determination every day, even though it was extremely difficult and painful. Years passed, and he grew into a confident and successful man. He often told people that it was that tree that taught him to face difficulties bravely no matter how tough the circumstances were.
