Do you remember the name of your kindergarten teacher I do, mine. Her name was Mrs.
White.
I don’t remember much about what we learned in her class, but my mother once told me that we used to write a lot. And I would bring back what I wrote and she would look at it and see there were so many mistakes. But no red corrections. And always a star. Sometimes even a Good! The scrawl (潦草的笔迹) in that worried my mother, so one day when she met Mrs. White for one of those Parent-Teacher meetings, she asked her why she never corrected my mistakes. Why she
never red-pencilled in the right spellings of words or pointed out grammatical errors.
Mrs. White said, “The children are just beginning to get excited about using words, about forming sentences. I don’t want to dampen that enthusiasm with red ink. Spelling and grammar can wait...” What my mother gave me was the gist of what she could remember. But I grew up learning to use words with loving confidence just like that.
And it occurs to me that if Mrs. White had used her red pen more precisely I probably wouldn’t be telling you about this now. I look back now and think she must have been a rather extraordinary teacher—to restrain (限定, 限制) her red pen. To allow the joy, wonder and excitement of expression flower—however faultily—like that.
I used to misspell “beautiful” a lot. I never could quite remember that the “e” went before the “a”. It annoyed my teacher in high school endlessly. Eventually the “e” s and “a” s that were wrong placed in “beautiful” settled into their right places. I am glad I didn’t wait on them though. “Pretty” is easier to spell but it doesn’t hold as much as you mean sometimes.
And thanks to Mrs. White I had no concerns about writing what I meant, even if I couldn’t quite spell it out. Because life isn’t pretty. It’s beautiful.
What worried his mother when the author was in kindergarten
The author’s unwillingness to go to school.
The teacher’s terrible attitude to the author.
The teacher’s ignorance of the author’s mistakes.
The author’s failure in exams and scrawl in homework.
What does the underlined word “dampen” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Reduce. B. Gain. C. Awaken. D. Inspire.
What can we learn from the fifth paragraph
The author preferred using the word “pretty”.
The teacher in high school disliked the author.
The author finally succeeded in spelling “beautiful” correctly.
The author owed all his own spelling problems to Mrs. White.
Which of the following can be used to describe Mrs. White
A. Generous and kind. B. Enthusiastic and careful.
C. Honest and brave. D. Far-sighted and tolerant.
C
The introduction of the iPad, with its touch screen technology, has allowed even very young children to take advantage of a computer. So what if all children in a school were given an iPad to use in class and take home with them
Anne Laure Bazin works in a school where every child, teacher and teaching assistant is given a free iPad to use in and out of lessons. For her, the main advantage of everyone having an iPad has been the improvement in communication. Documents (文件) can be emailed straight over to co- workers during a meeting. Children can submit their homework by email, or through other terminals used on their iPads instead of giving it straight to the teachers. Teachers now take the register using their iPad, which means that there is a centralized record of which children are in school, and which classroom they are in.
The use of iPads has encouraged greater sharing of resources among teachers. All communication with parents is now done by email. Working as a group in class is much easier as children can share documents. The whole class can look at one child’s work by attaching the iPad to the whiteboard. If a child has forgotten the textbook, the teacher can take a photograph of the relevant (相关的) page and send it to the student in class.
While the use of the iPad in schools has revolutionized (变革) the way children are taught, it
hasn’t completely replaced more traditional methods of teaching. Worksheets are still used in class as some children prefer the contact with paper. The children all have a textbook and exercise books. In Anne Laure’s school, parents feared that the iPads would replace exercise books and children would lose handwriting skills. Anne Laure says, “The teachers are not ready to let go of the traditional style of teaching. We have welcomed the iPads in so much as they help communication
and widen the resources available (可得到的) but we are not ready to let go of paper yet. The children themselves still value their exercise books and depend on them for revision.”
What does the underlined word “submit” in the second paragraph mean A.Clean up. B.Concentrate on. C.Write down. D.Hand in.
What is an advantage of using iPads in the classroom A.It saves students bringing the textbooks.
It reduces parents’ worry about teaching.
It improves the relationship between teachers.
It makes sharing information convenient.
What is parents’ attitude towards the use of iPads in the classroom in Annie’s school
A.Worried. B.Uncaring. C.Annoyed. D.Supportive.
What is the main idea of the last paragraph A.Teachers prefer traditional methods of teaching.
The iPads won’t take the place of printed materials.
More and more schools are using iPads. D.Exercise books are more valuable now.

A Canadian University is trying a new way to help reduce students' exam-time stress: dogs.
Dalhousie University is filling a room on campus with dogs from Dec.4 through Dec.6 for students to visit and play with the animals between exams. The pet room will be open for two hours(9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.) on the first two days and for five hours (9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.; 1:00
p.m. – 4:00 p.m.) on the third day. The dogs will be provided by Therapeutic Paws of Canada, a non-profit organization that trains animals to help people with practical needs.
Dalhousie’s student union posted an advertisement for the pet room on its Facebook page and within 24 hours, it was shared nearly 2,000 times. Hundreds of students expressed their excitement over the pet room on the Facebook.
Athea Costello wrote, ''This is the best idea ever! ''
Michelle Presse wrote, ''Thank you! I'm so excited. I already feel less stressed now. ''
Alumni complained the pet room wasn't offered when they attended this university (this is the first time the school is offering it).
''I think it should be open to alumni. Although we have already finished the exams and graduated, we are still stressed, '' Lola Doucet wrote.
Some dog owners offered up their own pets for the students, but the student union said only trained dogs are allowed to participate.
Dogs have been helping students at a number of U.S. universities, as well.
From Kent State University in Ohio to Macalester College in Minnesota, more and more dogs are around campus during exams to help students relax.
Richelle Reid, a law librarian who started Emory's pet therapy program said, ''it has had positive effects, helping them to just have a moment to clear their minds and not have to think about studies, not to have to think about books. ''
At Harvard Medical School and Yale Law School, students can ''rent'' pets for some alone time.
When could a student visit the pet room
A. At 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 6 B. At 8:00 a.m. on Dec. 5
C. At 3:00 p.m. on Dec. 6 D. At 3:00 p.m. on Dec. 5
From the comments on the blog, we can know __.

the university offered the pet room every year
some students complained the pet room was useless
The pets mainly help the students _ __.
