There are many kinds of jobs in the world, and if people can't find their ideal job, they can always create one. Molly Lewis did just that by becoming a professional whistler (吹口哨的人).
Shane O’ Neill writes in The Washington Post, “If you' re a famous comedian, you may get the frightening ‘Tell me a joke!’ from a stranger. If you think that’ s bad, try being a professional whistler.” “It happens all the time,” said Molly Lewis with a smile. “Sometimes I’ll oblige.”
Lewis released her album (音乐专辑), On the Lips, in February, to promote whistling. “People often don't know much about whistle music apart from some pop songs,” Lewis said. “But I think it's a beautiful instrument.”
People gradually notice whistle music. She whistled a singer's What Was I Made For , which appeared in the Barbie movie.
Lewis adds depth to whistling, which is usually seen as cheerful or absent-minded. She is inspired by artists like the couple, Marty and Elayne. “They played for 37 years, five nights a week, and it was very special,” Lewis said.
Lewis learned to whistle at four but took it seriously after seeing Pucker Up, a 2005 documentary about competitive whistling. She attended the International Whistlers Convention in 2012 and has performed in music clubs since then.
Starting in 2017, Lewis performed shows called Cafe Molly at Zebulon, attracting many notable figures. On tour, she aims to create an atmosphere of elegance, an atmosphere she hopes to bring home with On the Lips.
24. Which can explain the underlined word “oblige” in paragraph 2
A. Accept. B. Decline. C. Promise. D. Ignore.
25. What did Lewis intend to do with her album
A. Stress the role of whistling. B. Get whistling recognized.

A. They are excited. B. They are frightened. C. They are stressed. D. They are committed.
27. How did Pucker Up affect Lewis
A. It gave her easy access to music clubs. B. It earned her international reputation.
C. It deepened her devotion to whistling. D. It recognized her talent as a whistler.

Patagonia is a part of South America, flat and treeless. Its climate is cold and dry. There are more sheep than people across the land. But some exciting finds have made Patagonia a hot and well-known place. The bones of the largest dinosaurs and a huge nest of dinosaur eggs were found there.
Patagonia was not always such an empty and boring place. Around 90 million years ago, it was warm. It got plenty of rain. This climate was perfect for many kinds of plants and animals. There were forests of tall trees. It was a great place for plant-eating dinosaurs. Even the hugest plant eaters could find plenty to eat.
The three largest dinosaur skeletons (骨架) in the world are plant eaters from Patagonia. None of the skeletons is complete. But scientists have enough bones from these big animals to picture what they looked like. All of them had long necks and tails. Their size was truly amazing, from 105 to 131 feet long. They all walked on four feet.
Patagonia is also the place where the skeleton of the largest meat-eating dinosaur was discovered. This meat eater was about half as long as the biggest plant eaters. However, its big and sharp teeth made it a powerful killer.
So far, Patagonia's coolest discovery isn't skeletons but a huge dinosaur hatching ground. There were thousands of dinosaur eggs in the ground! Scientists have learned a lot from studying these eggs. They were laid about 80 million years ago. If they had hatched, the dinosaur babies would have been about 1.25 feet long. When full-grown, they would have been 45 feet long.
These exciting dinosaur finds inspire people's interest in Patagonia. Now dinosaur scientists from around the world are hard at work there. Each one hopes to make a great find. Another amazing dinosaur discovery may be just around the corner.
28. What made Patagonia a famous place
A. The climate. B. The history. C. The finds. D. The forests.
29. What was Patagonia like 90 million years ago
A. It was very cold there. B. It seldom rained there. C. Few animals lived there. D. Tall trees grew there.
30. What is the coolest discovery in Patagonia
A. Dinosaur skeletons. B. The hatching ground.
C. Dinosaur babies. D. The deadly meat eaters.
31. What could be the best title for the passage
A. Where Dinosaurs Once Lived B. How Dinosaurs Were Found
C. Where Dinosaurs Laid Eggs D. How Dinosaurs Disappeared
D
Imagine a busy restaurant: dishes clattering, music playing, people talking loudly over one another. It's a wonder that anyone in that kind of environment can focus enough to have a conversation. A new study by researchers at Brown University's Carney Institute for Brain Science provides some of the most detailed insights into the brain mechanisms that help people pay attention in such distraction, as well as what's happening when they can't focus.
In an earlier psychology study, the researchers established that people can separately control how much they focus (by enhancing relevant information) and how much they filter (by tuning out distraction). The team's new research, published in Nature Human Behaviour, shows the process by which the brain combines these two critical functions.
To conduct the study, Ritz administered a cognitive (认知的) task to participants while measuring their brain activity in an FMRI (Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) machine. Participants saw a swirling mass of green and purple dots moving left and right, like a swarm of fireflies. The tasks, which varied in difficulty, involved distinguishing between the movement and colors of the dots. For example, participants in one exercise were instructed to select which color was in the majority for the rapidly moving dots when the rate of purple to green was almost 50/50.
Ritz and his co-writer Shenhav then compared the process to how humans harmonize muscle activity to perform complex physical tasks. “In the same way that we bring together more than 50 muscles to perform a physical task like using chopsticks. Our study found that we can integrate multiple varieties of concentrations in order to perform acts of mental flexibility,” said Ritz, who conducted the study as a PhD student at Brown.
“These findings can help us to understand how we humans are able to exhibit such tremendous cognitive flexibility— to pay attention to what we want, when we want to,” Shenhav said. “They can also help us better understand limitations on that flexibility, and how limitations might appear in certain attention-related disorders such as ADHD (注意力缺陷及多动障碍), which we will study and conduct in the future.”
32. Why does the author mention the busy restaurant at the beginning of the text
A. To show one example of working environment. B. To complain why people can't focus attention.
C. To encourage people to talk in the restaurant. D. To show people's attention among distraction.
33. What is the third paragraph mainly about
A. The research result. B. The research process.
C. The research questions. D. The research participants.
34. What do people do when they are carrying out flexible acts
A. They adjust various forms of attention. B. They bring together more than 50 muscles.
C. They pay attention to the complex physical task. D. They use instruments like chopsticks to help them.
35. According to Shenhav, what can the researchers do in the future
A. Ensure cognition. B. Show flexibility. C. Research diseases. D. Limit attention.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
So, what does it take to be great I thoroughly reject the “10 years, 10,000 hours” notion that anyone can be an expert if they just put in enough time. 36
Another reality though is that you can't control your genes. If you received good ones from your parents, thank them. If you didn't, don't blame your parents because they didn't choose their genes either. 37
Inborn ability is certainly a wonderful thing to have been given, but it is a bit over rated. 38 What this means is that you need inborn ability to be great, but it isn't enough. The world is full of gifted failures, of “can't miss kids” who missed. Talent is only the starting point to greatness and, if you' re fortunate enough to have won the genetic lottery, it puts you ahead of the field at the beginning of the race to be great. 39 You have to work hard, push your limits, and struggle mightily to get to the finish for anything in life worth pursuing greatness in.
Ultimately, being great isn't about being objectively great because, as noted above, the chances that you will achieve true greatness in some aspect of your life is, statistically, very small 40 I define that as fully realizing whatever ability you were born with. That inborn ability may not be enough to be a superstar in your area of achievement, but, if you do what is necessary, you will find a reasonable level of success.
A. Instead, let it go and focus on what you can control.
B. But, of course, races aren't won at the start, but at the finish.
C. Rather, your goal should be to find your own personal greatness.
D. Inborn ability is a necessary but not sufficient contributor to greatness.
E. You might think that personal greatness isn't the same as true greatness.
F. They enjoy the struggles they experienced and the satisfaction of overcoming them.
G. The reality is that genes matter, whether inborn intelligence or inborn physical talent.

On a calm weekend, I went to the countryside to visit my grandmother. Her house, located in the heart of a village, was a harbour of quietness away from the noise of city life. As I approached her home, the familiar sight of her welcoming smile warmed my heart.
My grandmother, a woman of great wisdom and strength, had always been the backbone of our family. Her hands, though weathered with time, were skilled in the art of growing food from the soil. Her garden was her pride and her love for the land.
Upon my arrival, I noticed the wide area of her garden, awaiting the plants that would bring forth a harvest. I eagerly offered to help her with the planting, but she looked at me with concern. Her eyes reflected a mix of affection and anxiety. “Are you sure, my dear ” she asked with doubt. “It's hard work, and I don't want you to tire yourself.”
Determined to assist her, I insisted on learning the skills of gardening. She saw the determination in my eyes and, with a gentle nod, agreed to teach me. Under her careful teaching, I began my learning, eager to absorb every piece of knowledge she had to offer.
The process of planting required patience. My grandmother showed me how to prepare the soil, the proper depth to dig, and the correct spacing between each seedling (幼苗). She explained the importance of each step. She taught me every single detail.
At first, my movements were clumsy (笨拙的), and I feared I might be more of trouble than a help. But my grandmother's encouragement was firm. She guided my hands, correcting my technique with a gentle touch and kind words. Slowly, I began to find my rhythm (节奏), and my action became more fluent.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Finally, my grandmother agreed to let me do the planting alone. When I left that evening, I looked back at the garden.

第一节(15分)
Dear Adam,
Hope this email finds you well. I'm Li Hua, writing to share some concerns regarding our English drama elective class.
It has come to my attention that the choice of scripts may not be engaging enough for all students, and the timing seems to conflict with other important school activities. To address these issues, I propose selecting various plays that satisfy different interests and skill levels. Additionally, it might be helpful to schedule practices on different days to avoid overlaps with other commitments.
Thank you for your efforts in making this course enjoyable and beneficial for us.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节(25分)
One possible version:
Finally, my grandmother agreed to let me do the planting alone. I became more careful. I recalled the skills my grandmother had taught me, including the methods of digging, planting vegetable seedlings and watering them. Happily, I made it and my grandmother praised me. Each seedling I planted was a promise of growth, and a symbol of hope for the future. The sun bore down on us, and sweat dropped from my forehead, but the satisfaction of our labor was a reward beyond measure.
When I left that evening, I looked back at the garden. I was so proud to see the seedlings I had grown myself. I knew the day I spent with my grandmother would remain in my heart forever. I helped my grandmother, and in the process, I received a gift far greater than I could have imagined. I had learned the art of gardening. More importantly, I strengthened my bond with my grandmother, a connection that would flourish like the seeds we had planted together. I look forward to gardening with my grandmother again in the future.

M: Vincent Van Gogh, the great painter, was born in a small village in Holland on March 30, 1853. As he grew up, Vincent became interested in drawing, but he didn’t actually study art until he was 27 years old.
In 1886, Vincent Van Gogh moved to Paris to live with his brother Theo, who collected and sold paintings. In Paris, he met other artists and was influenced by their work. He began to paint outside and he began to express his feelings in his paintings with bright colors. But he didn’t have much money, and he didn’t eat very well.
In 1888, he moved to Arles, a town in southern France. The artist Paul Gauguin moved there too, and they became good friends. Van Gogh often became sad and couldn’t paint. One day he became very angry and argued with Gauguin. Gauguin left Arles. After a while, Van Gogh began to paint there again. Then, in 1890, early on a Sunday evening, Van Gogh went out to the countryside with his paints. He took out a gun and shot himself.
In his short, sad life, Van Gogh painted 200 paintings, but he sold only one of them.
