一、教学目标
(一)知识目标
1. Students are able to understand and master key words and phrases related to the cities along the Silk Road, such as "walk across", "take a picture", "have a look", "main", "sand", "believe", "safe", etc.
2.They can learn about the cultural and historical significance of Lanzhou and Dunhuang, and master relevant English expressions.
(二)能力目标
1. Through reading the text and answering questions, students can improve their reading comprehension ability and extract key information from the text.
2. Students are able to use the learned words and sentence patterns to conduct simple oral communication, such as describing the characteristic scenic spots of cities and discussing travel experiences.
3. According to the given hints, students can write a short descriptive article about a certain city, enhancing their writing skills.

1. Cultivate students' curiosity and interest in Chinese history and culture, and enhance their cultural identity.

(一)教学重点
1. Master key words and phrases, and understand their usage in context.
Comprehend the main content and details of the text about Lanzhou and Dunhuang, including scenic spot introductions, history and culture, etc.
Learn to use the learned knowledge for oral and written expressions.
(二)教学难点
1. Be able to describe a city in a coherent and accurate English, and organize the article structure and language expressions well.
2. Guide students to actively use English to express their views and ideas in group discussions and exchanges, and overcome expression barriers.
三、教学方法
1. Situational Teaching Method: By showing pictures, playing videos, etc., create situations related to the cities along the Silk Road, allowing students to experience the local cultural atmosphere and stimulating their learning interests.
2. Task - driven Method: Assign tasks such as reading, writing, and oral expression, so that students can actively learn and use English knowledge in the process of completing tasks, and improve their language skills.
3. Group Cooperative Method: Divide students into groups for group discussions and cooperative task - completion, cultivating students' teamwork ability and communication skills.
四、教学 Preparation
1. Multimedia courseware, including maps of the Silk Road, scenic spot pictures of Lanzhou and Dunhuang, text audio and videos, etc.
2. Word cards, small prizes (such as bookmarks, stickers, etc.) for classroom interaction and rewarding students with excellent performance.
五、教学 Procedure
(一)Lead - in (5 minutes)
1. Greet the students and start a free talk. Ask: “Where did you go on your last vacation What did you see there ” Invite several students to share their experiences.
2. Show a map of the Silk Road on the PPT and ask: “Do you know what this is Have you heard of the Silk Road ” Let students briefly talk about their understanding of the Silk Road.(Purpose: Activate students' prior knowledge and arouse their interest in the topic.)
(二)New Lesson Presentation (20 minutes)
1. Vocabulary Learning (7 minutes)
(1)Use word cards to present new words and phrases, such as “walk across”, “take a picture”, “have a look”, “main”, “sand”, “believe”, “safe”. Read the words and phrases aloud, and let students repeat after the teacher, paying attention to the pronunciation.
(2)Explain the meaning and usage of the words and phrases through examples. For example: “We walked across the bridge yesterday.” “Let's take a picture here.” “Come and have a look at my new book.” “Dunhuang is one of the main stops along the Silk Road.” “There is a lot of sand in the desert.” “I can't believe my eyes.” “It's safe to stay at home.”
(3)Let students make sentences with the new words and phrases in pairs, and then invite some pairs to share their sentences with the class.
Reading (13 minutes)
Lanzhou (6 minutes)
Show a video about Lanzhou. After watching, ask students: “What do you know about Lanzhou ” Let students share their ideas.
Present the passage about Lanzhou on the PPT. Let students read the passage quickly and answer the following questions:
What is the first bridge over the Yellow River
How long is the Yellow River
Where do many people take pictures
(3)Check the answers together. Then, let students read the passage carefully and complete a table about the famous places in Lanzhou, including their locations and special features.
Dunhuang (7 minutes)
(1)Show a video about Dunhuang. After watching, ask students: “What do you know about Dunhuang ”
(2)Let students read the passage about Dunhuang. First, read it quickly and answer some simple questions, like “What can you see in the Mogao Caves ” “Where can you ride camels ”
(3)Then, read the passage again and complete a mind - map to summarize the main information about Dunhuang, such as its famous attractions, unique features.
(三)Classroom Exercises (10 minutes)
Vocabulary Exercises (5 minutes)
Do some vocabulary - related exercises on the PPT, such as filling in the blanks with the correct forms of the new words, or matching the words with their meanings.
2. Let students work individually first, and then check the answers in pairs.
Reading Comprehension Exercises (5 minutes)
Present some multiple - choice questions or true - or - false questions based on the passages about Lanzhou and Dunhuang. Let students choose the correct answers or judge the statements.
Check the answers and explain the reasons for the wrong ones.
(四)Group Activities (10 minutes)
1. Divide the students into groups of four or five. Give each group a task: Suppose you are travel agents, and you need to introduce either Lanzhou or Dunhuang to foreign tourists.
2. Let the group members discuss and prepare their introductions. They can use the information from the texts and add some extra details they know. Each member should have a chance to speak in the group.
3. After the discussion, each group chooses a representative to give a presentation in front of the class. The other groups can listen and ask questions.
(五)Writing Guidance (10 minutes)
1. Create a writing situation: Suppose you have a foreign friend coming to visit China. Write an email to recommend either Lanzhou or Dunhuang to him/her.
2. First, brainstorm with the students about the content they can include in the email, such as the famous attractions, special food, and unique culture of the city. Write the key points on the blackboard.
3. Then, show some useful sentence patterns and expressions for writing, like “I'm glad to recommend... to you.” “There are many interesting places in... For example,...” “You can also...”
4. Let students start writing their emails. Walk around the classroom and offer help if necessary.
(六)Class Summary (5 minutes)
Summarize the key points of this lesson with the students, including the new words and phrases, the main information about Lanzhou and Dunhuang, and the skills of reading, speaking and writing we practiced.
Praise the students for their good performance in class and encourage them to keep learning and exploring the knowledge about the Silk Road and Chinese culture.
(七)Homework Assignment (5 minutes)
Finish the writing task and email it to the teacher.
Look up more information about other stops along the Silk Road and share it with classmates next class.
六、Teaching Reflection
After the class, think about the students' participation and performance. Check if they have mastered the key knowledge and skills. Analyze the problems that occurred during the teaching process, such as whether the tasks were too difficult or too easy for the students, and how to adjust the teaching methods and content in the future to make the class more effective. If some students had difficulty in writing, plan to provide more writing guidance and practice in the following classes.
