breakthrough.Ierapist has a wealth of stories about that beautiful musical moment when art and science come together to create an awareness,an accomplishment,a breakthrough.I want to share highlights of music therapy, which helped my family find outlets and insights through our “extremely painful journey”.
determination.Astman lived his life with strength and determination. As complications associated with diabetes diminished haway.Asical capabilities, his unbeatable will to fight the disease completely hammered away.A WWⅡ Navy Seal,Joe Altman lived by a simple rule:when you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot(结) and hang on.
When dementia struck hard and violently broke through Dad’life.Armedusic therapist Alessandro Ricciarelli entered his life.Armed with six strings attached to a wooden guitar,Alessandro surpassed(超过) the capabilities of the most advanced medical technology.
Each time Alessandro walked through the door,an form.Alessandroformed around them, creating a comfortable space in which a trusting bond of friendship would quickly form.Alessandro brought with him happiness, encouragement, added a sense of meaning and purpose to Dad’s life, and,in doing so revived(使复原) hisspirit.Inspirit.In a most gentle way,Alessandro treated Joe with the greatest dignity and respect.
Alessandro’s action was not limited to actual hospital visits;he took personal time to learn songs that were relevant to Dad and made recordings of their sessions together to be enjoyed at any given time.Alessandro appreciated the power of positive thoughts, and with his kind words,a smile, compassion, and a true desire to make Dad happy,he encouraged Dad’s participation, leaving us with cherished memories of my father having one last chance to express himself through music, smiling and enjoying life.
In a very real sense,Alessandro was that knot at the end of the rope on to which Dad grabbed.I am forever grateful to the Music Therapy Programme at NYU Medical Centre, more specifically,to Mr.Alessandro Ricciarelli.

A broken heart.A sad ending to a love affair. That’s something most of us have experienced,or probably will. The experience can be destructive. You might find yourself listening more to sad music, hoping it can resonate with your feelings of disappointment, and you’ll never heal from your broken heart.
You might go through a strong feeling of sorrow,as in Neil Young’s OnlyLoveCanBreakYourHeart,or the pain of a lyric from Bob Dylan’s LoveSick:“I’msickoflove.Iwish.I’dnevermetyou.”
But research shows listening to sad music can help you begin to feel joy and hopefulness about your life again.Sad music can help heal and uplift you from your broken heart.Or,from any negative, disappointing life situation. It can activate empathy(共情) and the desire to reach out for others—both pathways out of the prison of heartache and hopelessness.
A recent study from Germany found the emotional impact of listening to sad music can lift the feelings of empathy, compassion, and a desire for positive connection with others. That, itself,is psychologically healing. It draws you away from anxiety with yourself, and possibly towards helping others in need of comfort.
Another experiment, from the University of Kent, found that when people were experiencing sadness, listening to music that was “beautiful but sad” excited their mood.In fact,it did so when the person first consciously understood the situation causing their sadness before beginning to listen to the sad music. That is,when they intended that the sad music might help, they found that it did.But that wasn’t true if they just listened to sad music without first thinking about the sad situation.
Then, you may be answering the question raised in the old Bee Gees’ song,HowCanYouMendaBrokenHeart
5.What does the underlined word “resonate” in paragraph 1 refer to

7.What can we learn from the experiment from University of Kent
A.Shared feelings might enable people to help others.

C.Showing empathy does good both mentally and physically.
D.Sad songs can benefit people with the intention of lifting spirits.

D.When can we turn to others for help
Ⅱ.七选五
My heart went out to the drama teacher I read about in a recent news item. Each parent from her class insisted that she cast their own child as Snow White. This reminded me of my seventh grade musical—TheAdventuresofTomSawyer.I desperately wanted to play the role of Becky, the female lead who was Tom’s girlfriend. 1
For starters,Becky had to sing numerous solos, and I couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket.I also didn’t have long blonde curls like pretty Linda Wright who won the part.
I was assigned the non-singing role of Miss Watson, the maid.I had to wear an ugly dress. And I had only one line to learn,“That’s what I say.” 2 Miss Watson was onstage in quite a few scenes, and got to repeat “That’s what I say” throughout the play.
At last, our production was put onstage.Imagine my surprise when Miss Watson made the audience laugh out loud each time I piped in with “That’s what I say”.I hadn’t known that she—or I—could be funny,or that her character was important in moving the plot along. 3
That night,I began to understand that being the star may not be any more fun than being a stand-out in a supporting role. Each person, onstage and backstage,is essential in theater.Without everyone doing their part, the play would be dull as dirt. 4 If everyone’s a star then nothing gets done. It’s all noise and chaos.
And so I believe all children should get the opportunity to play Miss Watson,to become someone they didn’t know they wanted to be. 5
A.So it is in life.
B.It was not to be.
C.It was anything but a great part.
D.My Miss Watson turned out to be a hit.
E.It took the entire cast to make a good show.
F.There was an advantage,in my opinion,though.
G.I would hope all children could be a hit in life.

故选A项。
Sadmusiccanhelphealandupliftyoufromyourbrokenheart.”
2.F 根据空后的“MissWatsonwasonstageinquiteafewscenes,andgottorepeat ‘That’swhatIsay’ throughouttheplay.”
4.A 由空前的“Eachperson,onstageandbackstage,isessentialintheater.Withouteveryonedoingtheirpart,theplaywouldbedullasdirt.” It’sallnoiseandchaos.”

The Reading Festival was truly a fruitful activity. Not only did we gain more knowledge, but also it enriched our school life and inspired us to keep on reading.
