(2024·浙江·模拟预测)Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm were born just over a year apart. As children, they did almost everything together. They continued to get along well as they grew older. Even when Wilhelm married, Jacob continued living in the same house and became part of his family.
Their slight differences in interests and personality complemented each other. Wilhelm loved literature. He made it easy for people to read writings of the Middle Ages. The Grimm’s fairy tales are popular partly because of his constant effort to improve tales the two brothers collected. Jacob was more scientific. He studied how German and other European languages changed throughout history. His work shaped their last project, a German dictionary.
The brothers had grown up during a time of war and political problems. During university years they found a way to help their country by doing what interested them most-researching old German literature. They hoped that their studies might awaken national pride. Their hopes were rewarded. Jacob and Wilhelm were surprised when families eagerly bought their collection of fairy tales to read at home. They hadn’t written the book with children in mind. It later became a household book in many lands. Their collection of folk tales, which were based on events or places in German history, brought much honor to their country. Their dictionary, the first complete one of the German language, served later as a model for dictionaries in other languages.
17.What the Grimm brothers were most interested in was ________.
A.writing books for children all over the world
B.solving political problems during the war-time
C.making the changes of some European languages
D.studying the old literature of their own country
18.What is the main point the writer wants to make in the second paragraph
A.The two brothers’ interests and personality were slightly different.
B.Jacob was more scientific than Wilhelm and was more successful.
C.Grimm made great improvement in writing fairy tales.
D.Both brothers helped each other to gain the success in literature though not completely in common.
19.Why were the brothers surprised when families bought their collection of fairy tales
A.They found that people bought their collection only for fun.
B.They hadn’t expected their books were so popular with children.
C.They never thought they could get so much money by selling their books.
D.They hadn’t realized their collection was only enjoyed by the readers at home.
20.Which of the following was not among the great contributions of the brothers

(2024·河南洛阳·二模)In a US study that studied the health information of 50,000 people over seven years, researchers found that those who made breakfast the largest meal of the day were more likely to have a lower body mass index (BMI,体重指数) than those who ate a large lunch or dinner.
However, studies have shown that giving up dinner increases the risk of physical illness, according to Courtney Peterson, the study’s author at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
“For those who eat dinner later, their risk of obesity (肥胖) and diabetes (糖尿病) goes through the roof. While it seems breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it might actually be dinner,” she says. “Our blood sugar control is best early in the day. When we eat dinner late, that’s when we’re weak because our blood sugar is the worst.”
Researchers designed a study in which 52 women took part in a 12-week weight loss programme. All had the same number of calories (卡路里) over the day, but half had breakfast, while the other half did not. What they found was that it wasn’t breakfast itself that caused the people who joined this study to lose weight: it was changing their normal routine.
When you have been eating less and less, and the blood sugar in your body drops, your body will produce something named “cortisol (皮质醇)” that specifically has a great influence on blood sugar. But it can also create stress in the body, making you feel sad and nervous.

This weekly show began airing (播出) its third season on Oct 17. On the show, some of China’s famous writers, such as Yu Hua and Su Tong, talk about their favorite literature (文学作品).
While the last two seasons were set on islands in southern China, the third season sees the group of writers travel to Crete, the largest island in Greece. “The audience can experience the cultural exchanges between China and the West. We hope that the show will help good literature from China and abroad reach more people.” Li Li, a producer of the show, told China Youth Daily.

“Travel is the body on the road, while reading is the mind on the road. Both offer a way to satisfy our great curiosity (好奇心)”, Ye Zi, a young scholar (学者), said on the new season of the Chinese TV show I Read Books on an Island (《我在岛屿读书》).
