I. Teaching Aims 教学目标
Knowledge Objectives 知识目标
Students can master the key words and phrases, such as “give up”, “drop out of”, “make a difference”, “in the future”.
Students can understand the usage of the simple present tense and the simple past tense.
Ability Objectives 能力目标
Students are able to talk about their favorite teachers and the important things their teachers have done for them.
Students can read and understand the passage about “Making a Difference” and complete related reading tasks.
Students can use the key words, phrases and tenses to express themselves in speaking and writing.
Emotional Objectives 情感目标
Students can realize the importance of a good teacher and education, and be inspired to make a difference in their own lives.

The usage of the simple present tense and the simple past tense.
Comprehending the passage about “Making a Difference”.

Distinguishing and correctly using the simple present tense and the simple past tense in different situations.

III. Teaching Methods 教学方法
Communicative Teaching Method: To encourage students to communicate with each other in English, improving their speaking and listening skills.
Task - based Teaching Method: To design various tasks, such as reading tasks, discussion tasks, to make students actively participate in class.
Audio - visual Teaching Method: To use pictures, videos and the text to help students better understand the content.

V. Teaching Procedures 教学过程
Step 1: Warming - up (5 minutes)
Greet the students and show some pictures of different teachers on the screen.
Ask students: “Who is your favorite teacher Can you briefly describe him/her ” Let several students share their ideas.
Step 2: Vocabulary learning (15 minutes)
Explain the key words and phrases one by one:
“give up”: means to stop trying to do something. For example, “Don't give up your dreams.”
“drop out of”: means to leave a school, college, etc. without finishing your studies. For example, “We should encourage students not to drop out of school.”
“make a difference”: means to have an important effect or influence on someone or something. For example, “Your help can make a difference to his life.”
“in the future”: means at a time that is after the present. For example, “I want to be a doctor in the future.”
Let students make sentences with these words and phrases individually, and then share their sentences with the class.
Step 3: Pre - reading (10 minutes)
Present some questions on the screen, such as “What problems might a student from a village face in his study ”, “If you were a teacher, how would you help your students ” Let students discuss these questions in pairs.
After the discussion, invite some pairs to share their opinions.
Then, show the title “Making a Difference” and the picture related to the text. Ask students to predict what the passage might be about.
Step 4: While - reading (15 minutes)
Fast - reading
Let students read the passage quickly and answer the True or False questions on the screen:
Hao Tongxin is a student from a city. (False)
Hao Tongxin wanted to continue his studies last year. (False)
The teacher didn't care about Hao Tongxin. (False)
Check the answers together.
Careful - reading
Ask students to read the passage carefully again and underline the sentences that show how the teacher helped Hao Tongxin.
Then, let students work in groups to discuss and summarize the teacher's actions. Each group chooses a representative to report the results.
Step 5: Post - reading (10 minutes)
Group discussion
Divide students into groups of four or five. Give them the topic: “Who has made a difference in your life What did he/she do ”
Let students discuss in groups. Each group member should share their own experiences.
Presentation
Each group chooses a representative to share their group's discussion results with the whole class.
Step 6: Grammar focus (15 minutes)
Show some sentences from the text on the screen, such as “Last year, I wanted to give up my studies.” and “She often visits her students and their families.”
Explain the usage of the simple present tense and the simple past tense:
The simple present tense is used to talk about things that happen regularly now, habits, general truths, etc.
The simple past tense is used to talk about things that happened in the past.
Give some more examples and let students distinguish the tenses. Then, ask students to make sentences using the two tenses.
Step 7: Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary
Summarize the key words, phrases and grammar points of this class with students. Review the content of the passage and the importance of making a difference.
Homework
Ask students to write a short passage about a person who has made a difference in their lives, using the simple present tense and the simple past tense.
Recite the key words and phrases.
