Learn to do small things. You should learn to do small things. For example, you can do the dishes, sweep the floor or make the bed. Part of growing up is to be able to take care of yourself. Doing some small things around the house shows that you are becoming responsible (有责任心的).
Divide (划分) housework among the family. In fact, it’s too tiring for one person to do all the housework alone. It’s good to divide housework into different parts. All the family members will do the housework together. Dividing housework among all the family members will make everyone’s job much easier.

When you finish some chores at home, will your parents give you a reward (奖励) It is common for parents to do that. But some people do not think it is a good idea.
One of them is Susie Walton, an education expert. She believes if kids get rewards, they will think that housework is not worth (值得) doing unless they get something in return. Kids won’t sweep the floor if they see it is dirty. But they will if their parents reward them for it. Walton also said, “A home is a living place for everyone in the family. It’s important for kids to see that we all should play our part in keeping our home clean.”
Other people don’t think so. They believe that rewards encourage kids to do more chores. Rewarding also teaches them real world lessons. They can learn that we need to work to make money.
Now, there are also mobile phone apps like ChoreMonster. With the app, kids get points after doing chores. After getting some points, they can do something they like. For example, parents will allow them to play video games for half an hour if they get 80 points.
So each side seems to have their own reasons. Whether you give children rewards depends on your own ideas. Maybe you have better ways to solve this problem.

When Justin Tong was a child, other kids felt sorry for him. His parents always had him doing lots of housework such as taking out the rubbish and sending newspapers. But when he grew up, he was better than his childhood friends and lived a happier and healthier life.
This is the finding of a 40-year study than followed the lives of 456 children in London. It showed that the children who worked hard in childhood had a richer and a happier future. “Children who worked in the home in childhood got more abilities and came to feel they were important members of society.” said Daniel Brown, the psychologist (心理学家)who made the study. “And because they felt good about themselves, and others felt good about them.”
Brown’s study followed these children in great information. They made the study about the children at ages 25, 31 and 47. Under Brown, the researchers compared (比较)the children’s mental-health scores with their childhood-activity scores. The children got more points for part-time jobs, housework, effort in school, and ability to deal with problems.
Working at any age is important. Childhood activities help a child develop responsibility, independence, confidence and ability—the underpinnings (基础)of emotional (情感的) health. They also help him understand that people must work together and work toward common goals. The mast competent (合格的) adults are those who know how to do this.

I have three children and I make them do housework. However, my mother-in-law (婆婆) doesn’t agree with me. She thinks I’m too harsh. In her opinion, parents shouldn’t be too strict with children. It is adults’ job to do housework.
I think our family is made up of five family numbers. No one in the family is more important than others, so each member should help with chores. I don’t ask my children to do the same chores, because their ages are different.
At the end of the day, after they finish playing with their toys, I ask them to put the toys away. If they don’t, they will have to say goodbye to their toys. I expect my children to set the table at night and help fold their own clothes. I don’t think I’m asking too much.
I know they are tired after a long day’s study at school, but that’s life—harsh but real. I don’t want to pay them for doing some chores. They live in the house, so they should help out with some things in the house. No one is going to pay them for cleaning up their rooms later in life and I’m not about to start doing it now.
Some parents protect their children too much from anything unpleasant (使人不愉快的) and make their children’s lives too comfortable and safe, but I’m not interested in that way. I hope my children are able to look after themselves and can be independent early.

Gao Defu, 10, is a student in a primary school in a small village in Guizhou. He used to go hungry or have only an ear of com for lunch at noon. But now, Gao and his classmates have better food and vegetable dishes for free every day, thanks to the free lunch program.
The program was started by Deng Fei, a journalist at the Phoenix Weekly(《凤凰周刊》). Early this year, Deng met Xiao Yu, a primary school teacher from Guizhou, and was told that students in Xiao's school didn't have lunch to eat. Instead, they drank water to lessen their hunger.
Deeply shocked, Deng decided to do something for kids in the poor areas. He posted a message on his microblog(微博)saying he wanted to build a canteen (食堂)at Xiao's school. The message soon got the support and attention(注意)of tens of thousands of people around the country. In March, some 500 reporters, along with a dozen news organizations and charity funds(慈善机构), finally set up the free lunch program.
Local teachers and foundation workers calculated that one lunch for one child cost 3 yuan. People can donate for a meal, a month's worth of meals, or a year's worth of meals for children on the Internet by going to http://www, mianfeiwucan, org.

We know that many animals do not stay in one place. Birds, fish and other animals move from one place to another at a certain time. They move for different reasons: most of them move to find food more easily, but others move to get away from places that are too crowded.
When cold weather comes, many birds move to warmer places to find food. Some fishes give birth in warm water and move to cold water to feed. The most famous migration(迁移)is probably the migration of the fish, which is called "salmon". This fish is born in fresh water but it travels many miles to salt water. There it spends its life. When it is old, it returns to its birthplace in fresh water. Then it gives birth and dies. In northern Europe, there is a kind of mouse. They leave their mountain homes when they become too crowded. They move down to the low land. Sometimes they move all the way to the seaside, and many of them are killed when they fall Into the sea.
Recently, scientists have studied the migration of a kind of lobster(龙虾). Every year, when the season of the bad weather arrives, the lobsters get into a long line and start to walk across the floor of the ocean. Nobody knows why they do this, and nobody knows where they go.

Research says that husbands do not do their fair share of work around the house.A study from an American university says that men seldom do the same share of housework.Researchers interviewed 182 working couples who became first-time parents. Both husbands and wives worked almost the same number of hours in full-time jobs. However, men did five hours a week less housework than women after their baby was born..
It is a different story for mothers.Becoming a parent added about 21 hours a week to a mother's work. Most of this was looking after her baby.New fathers did not do more work because they did not realize the mother was doing so much more.Another reason is that after a baby is born, fathers follow the “traditional” roles. That is,the mother looks after the baby and the father works outside. This happens even when the mother is working the same number of hours in her job.
