Labor (劳动) classes at school can help students be active and happy in life. At the same time, students can learn the meaning of labor. So from this September, students in middle school will have at least one labor class a week.
There are many interesting labor classes now. Students from a school in Chongqing had a class about catching fish in the river and learning about their habits. In Shanxi Province, students made tofu and also cooked it by themselves. The labor classes made them feel happy when they cooked delicious meals. Some students also kept small animals at home like chickens. This helped students learn how to care for living things and also made them more interested in biology.
According to the new policy (政策), middle school students need to learn the following skills in labor classes: clean their rooms and classrooms, pick proper (合适) clothes for travel, cook three or four meals and take part in labor activities such as planting or fishing.
A study shows that doing labor work is good for students. The students can get more self-control (自控), do better in school, and feel happy from it. Labor classes not only teach them important skills but also are a great way to relax during a busy school day. So which kind of labor skill do you want to learn most

In this activity, children will take a closer look at leaves and find out more about leaf characteristics and how leaves can be used to identify plants.
Next time you are in a forest, you can collect leaves of different shapes, sizes, and colors on the ground. Ask these questions:
What differences and similarities can you see
What do the leaves feel like Do they have hairs Or teeth
Can you find the tree that each leaf came from
Explain that leaves can be used to identify trees. Use a field guide to identify a tree. Find a leaf from that tree, and compare the leaf in the field guide to the real-life leaf you found on the ground. How many other trees can you find with this same type of leaf
The edges or margins (边缘) of leaves can give us clues to the tree’s identity.
Another characteristic to identify a tree is the way its leaves grow on the twigs (嫩枝). Even needle leaves grow in patterns. For example, leaves on pines may grow in clusters (簇) of two, three, or more.
Now, make prints of the leaves you collect. To make a leaf crayon rubbing, place a leaf on a smooth and hard surface, vein (叶脉) side up, and cover it with a piece of paper. Rub a crayon back and forth across the paper, directly above the leaf. What do you see What will appear on the paper as you rub

—Yang Kai (a boy)
I argued with my friend, so I was upset. We had a discussion yesterday. I said the robots would take humans’ place and work for us, but she disagreed with me. At first I thought it was not a big deal, but she didn’t talk to me today.

Last night I cooked an Italian dish—spaghetti (意大利面条) with meat sauce for my family.
I put enough spaghetti for everyone into a pot of boiling, salted water. I let it cook for about ten minutes. But before this, I made meat sauce.
I wanted the meat sauce to be really delicious. First, I cut up an onion. Then I poured a little oil into a pot, added the onion and cooked it in the oil for a few minutes.
When the onion was soft, I put some ground (切碎的) beef into the pot and cooked them together for a few more minutes. After that I added tomatoes and some mixed herbs (香草). Finally, I added some tomato sauce and cooked them at a low temperature for about an hour.
When the spaghetti was ready, I put it into a large bowl. Then I poured the meat sauce over it. There was enough for everyone. And we all put some cheese on top of the spaghetti.
Everyone enjoyed it and Mom said she would let me cook something else another day. I’m going to read a cookbook and find something really interesting to cook.

If your notebooks look a little boring, you can give them a new cover (封面). You use your notebooks in every class, so why shouldn’t they look different There are some of the best ways you can use by yourself to keep your notebooks looking fun and fresh all year round.
Draw some pictures on them. If you can’t draw well, you can cover your own notebooks with stickers (贴纸). There are many beautiful and funny stickers you can choose from in the shop. This works well and it is the easiest way.
Write fun or important ideas on your notebooks. You can use a paint brush to paint your notebook cover. When the paints are dry, it will turn into a hard cover you can use. You can write anything you like on it then, such as a famous saying, the dates of important exams and the important things you need to do.
Create (创作) your own designs. This is easier on brown paper. Wrap (包裹) your notebooks in brown paper first. Then use colored pencils to draw your favorite shapes. You can draw your favorite animals, friends and other things with your favorite colors. In order to reduce the stress on the students, Nanjing No.1 High School has created a “grade bank”. The bank lets students “borrow” grades so that they can pass exams, and then repay them in later tests.
Here’s how it works: The “grade bank” allows students to loan (贷款) grades if they fail the exam. But, just like real banks, it requires “clients (客户)” to pay back the loan on time, with interest (利息). So students have to pay for the loan by getting extra grades in future exams. Some teachers also allow the students to repay the bank by doing lab experiments or giving public speeches. Students who don’t pay back their loan are blacklisted by the bank, just like in real life.
“I was sick before the mid-term exams and missed several geography classes,” one student, Zhu Xiao, said, “I failed the exam, so I am glad the ‘grade bank’ gave me a chance to pass the exam.”
Though many people think the “grade bank” is a great idea, not everyone supports the idea. Education expert Xiong Bingqi, for example, believes the “grade bank” is not proper, but thinks that it takes stress off the students. Others think that such an idea just causes students to be lazier in their studies.
75.According to the passage, the “grade bank” was created to ________.
A.make students work harder and harder
B.tell students grades were not the most important

Here are some ways to keep your eyes healthy.
We know strong light (强光) is bad for people’s eyes. If you read in the sun, the book can reflect (反射) the sunlight into your eyes. It will hurt (伤害) your eyes and make your eyes get tired easily. Of course, don’t read in poor light, either. It’s difficult to see clearly and your eyes can also get tired easily. Reading in the proper (合适的) light is very important for your eyes.
Don’t read while lying in bed or on the sofa. You should sit straight up and keep the book away from your eyes for about a foot.
After reading for a long time, try to close your eyes and do eye exercises. It’s also a good idea to relax your eyes by looking in the long distance.

Laughing is one of life’s simplest pleasures. It’s free. You can do it anywhere and it makes you feel good. Laughter is infectious (感染的). Often when we hear someone laughing in a crowded room or on a packed train, for example, we start laughing too — even if we have no idea why.
Making others laugh is an act of joy and kindness. However, when people laugh at you, it’s not. That experience is lonely and no fun at all. For example, if Anna is in a funny play and people laugh with her, that’s a good thing. However, if she forgets her lines, people may laugh at her. That isn’t so good. People might even call her a laughingstock (笑柄). No one, not even a professional comedian (喜剧演员), wants to be a laughingstock.
For example, let’s say a boy likes dancing with teddy bears. He records it and accidentally (偶然地) sends it to one of his classmates. The classmate shares the video with others and the boy becomes the laughingstock of the whole school.
But our story doesn’t end there. Someone posts the video online and over 10 million people watch it. Then, the boy gets lots of offers to make advertisements for teddy bears and makes a lot of money. Now, you can say the boy has the last laugh. When you have the last laugh, you end up winning.
Another way to have the last laugh is to simply laugh off a difficult situation. It shows you just don’t care. For example, if the boy is a friend of yours, you can tell him to just laugh it off.
85.Why do we possibly follow someone else to laugh on a packed train
A.Because laughing is free.
B.Because we have no idea why.
C.Because laughing makes us feel lonely.
D.Because laughter is infectious.
86.From the second paragraph, we can learn that _________.

D.making others laugh is too difficult

88.If one has the last laugh, he _________ in the end.
A.achieves success
B.is still a laughingstock
C.makes others laugh
D.doesn’t care about the results
89.If someone makes fun of your sister and you want to tell her not to pay too much attention to it, you can say, “_________”.
A.You’re really a laughingstock
B.Hey, just laugh it off.
C.It’s not funny—don’t laugh.
D.You have the last laugh.

When you make new friends, you need to be reliable (可靠的) to them. When you say you will do something, do it. For example, if you and your friend agree to meet at 8 o’ clock, don’ t be late.
