Here are a group of everyday people who saw problems, and now their solutions are making the world a better
place.
Ron Davis Alvarez
Ron Davis Alvarez, a product of Venezuela's El Sistema, a program offering free classical music training to
disadvantaged children, founded the Dream Orchestra in Sweden. This orchestra brings together over 400 people
from more than 25 nationalities, ranging from 3 to 56 years old, including immigrants, refugees, second-generation
immigrants, and native Swedes. Alvarez's initiative uses music as a tool for integration, friendship, self-expression,
and rebuilding self-esteem among refugees.
Payton McGriff
Payton McGriff, during her senior year at the University of Idaho, founded Style Her Empowered (SHE) after
realizing the scoring cost of school uniforms for many girls in Togo. SHE began by hiring local seamstresses to
make uniforms for 65 girls and evolved to create a “growing” uniform that adjusts to fit a girl for up to three years.
Today, SHE supports 1,500 girls annually with free uniforms, school fees, supplies, tutoring, and more, while also
providing employment and education opportunities for the women involved.
Rachel Rutter

Yamilée Toussaint combined her love for math and dance to create STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering,
and Mathematics) From Dance, a nonprofit that integrates dance with STEM education to engage girls of color.
Recognizing the underrepresentation of black women in her engineering field, Toussaint aimed to inspire girls of

From Scotland to Cornwall, an organic, regenerative collective of the UK farmers is looking to pair up with
sustainable businesses that need access to land and tools. Pitch Up! was founded in 2021 by Tim May, of
Kingsclere Estates farm in Hampshire. It offers land, resources and expertise to businesses with big ideas for
sustainable projects—in other words, “no gear(设备), all the ideas”. The idea is to replicate nature's “closed loop”
system, with waste being reused to create a thriving circular farming community.
“Our goal is to have a diverse mix of enterprises all operating off the land—using each other's by-products or
waste, and sharing knowledge, equipment and experience,” says May. “Nature thrives on diversity; it also fuels
economic resilience, helps create a closed-loop system, and builds stronger rural communities. As farmers, we have
an abundance of land and natural resources, and we want to share those resources and bring more people on to the
land.”
Pitch Up! has already helped to launch a handful of businesses. Balcaskie Estate covers 2,000 hectares of land
in Fife, Scotland, and has hosted markets, a butchery, and pop ups by Scotland The Bread, an organisation that
works to get more people eating better bread.
Rosie Jack, Balcaskie's business development manager, says, “We know that there's a real demand for rural
land so our message is, 'We have land, come and use it!' We really do welcome approaches from businesses of all
shapes and sizes.”
This year, the Pitch Up! farming collective is keen to hear from entrepreneurs who want to use pasture land,
organic milk, oats and grain, animal hides, woad, wool and even hedgerows for foraging.
“We are looking for sustainable businesses at all stages of the business life cycle, but particularly those that
have an idea of how they can fit into the circular systems in place at a Pitch Up! farm,” says May. “It might be a
cheese maker for example, who can add value by using the organic milk from the mobile dairy business here.”
24. What does Pitch Up! offer to sustainable businesses
A. Organic food. B. Farming resources.
C. Money and staff. D. Tools and workers.
25. What's May's vision for Pitch Up!
A. A single big company. B. More land for farming.
C. Only eco-friendly farms. D. Various businesses working together.
26. Why was Balcaskie Estate mentioned in the text
A. For selling land. B. Due to program failure.
C. For bread promotion. D. As a successful case of Pitch Up!.
27. What does May want to convey in the last paragraph
A. Cooperation expectation. B. The importance of circular systems.
C. A demand for a cheese maker. D. Value of Pitch Up!.

Scientists have found a trigger(诱因) for social learning in wild animals. An experiment on great tits(大山雀)
has pinpointed a single factor—immigration—that can cause birds to pay close attention to others, leading them to
rapidly adopt useful behaviors. The study, conducted by scientists from the Max Planck Institute of Animal
Behavior (MPI-AB) in Germany, is the first to provide experimental support of a long-held assumption that
immigrants should strategically use social learning.
By copying the behaviors of others, animals can potentially unlock resources. So Chimento, a postdoctoral
researcher at the MPI-AB, wanted to know if there was an ingredient that would boost social learning, allowing
animals to more efficiently realize its rewards.
Using an automated puzzle box system they developed, the team designed an experiment to test this
immigration hypothesis. They created experimental social groups of wild-caught great tits. Each group was
provided with a “tutor” which was trained to access food from a puzzle box by either pushing the door left or right,
so that their flock mates learned to prefer using one solution over another.
Next came the immigration event. Right-pushing birds were transferred into aviaries where resident birds were
using the left-hand solution, and vice versa(反之亦然). Not only did immigrants see that residents were opening
the puzzle box in a new way, but in some groups, the newcomers also discovered that residents scored a superior
reward by doing so.
What's important is that the immigrants were blind to the fact that the food reward had changed. Immigrants
could only know something changed by either watching the residents use the puzzle, or by trying the other side
themselves.
“In nature, animals are often moving from one environment to another, so it's helpful to have a strategy to
remove bad behaviors and learn good behaviors to use in the new place. Our study provided the experimental
evidence to show that this is also what happens in real life,” Chimento said.
28. Which of the following might make great ti ts copy others
A. Finding shelters. B. Moving places.
C. Losing direction. D. Making friends.
29. What is the “tutor”'s role in the experiment
A. To provide food. B. To assess behaviors.
C. To model a behavior. D. To measure intelligence.
30. What did the experiment reveal about the immigrants
A. They ignored the residents' methods.
B. They knew the reward change in advance.
C. They observed both the method and rewards.
D. They were indifferent to the residents' behaviors.
31. How can social learning benefit immigrants
A. By avoiding hunters in the new area.
B. By finding more food and water resources.
C. By increasing competition with other animals.
D. By helping them adapt more quickly to new environments.
D
More time spent sitting, reclining or lying down during the day may increase the risk of cardiovascular(心血
管的) disease(CVD) and death, according to a study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. More
than roughly 10-and-a-half hours of sedentary(久坐的) behavior per day was significantly linked with future heart
failure(HF) and CVD death, even among people meeting recommended levels of exercise.
“Our findings support cutting back on sedentary time to reduce cardiovascular risk, with 10.5 hours a day
marking a potentially key threshold tied to higher heart failure and cardiovascular mortality,” said Shaan Khurshid,
MD, MPH, a cardiologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital. “Too much sitting or lying down can be harmful
for heart health, even for those who are active.”
This study examined the amount of sedentary time at which CVD risk is greatest and explored how sedentary
behavior and physical activity together impact the chances of atrial fibrillation(心房颤动)(AF), HF, myocardial
infarction(心肌梗死)(MI) and CVD death.
Among the 89,530 study participants of the UK Biobank, participants submitted data from a wrist-worn
triaxial accelerometer that captured movement over seven days. The average sedentary time per day was 9.4 hours.
After an average follow-up of eight years, 3,638 individuals developed incident AF; 1,854 developed incident HF;
1,610 developed indecent MI; 846 died of CVD causes.
For study participants who met the recommended 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity or
more, the effects of sedentary behavior on AF and MI risks were substantially reduced, but effects on higher risk of
HF and CVD mortality remained prominent.
“This study adds to the growing evidence of a strong link between sedentary behavior and cardiovascular
health,” said Khurshid. “The findings strongly suggest that we need to get people moving to promote better health.
Future guidelines and public health efforts should stress the importance of cutting down on sedentary time.
Avoiding more than 10.6 hours per day may be a realistic minimal target for better heart health.”
32. What risk does the study mention for those who sit more
A. Obesity. B. Recognition loss.
C. Heart problems. D. Physical disability.
33. What does the underlined word “threshold” mean in paragraph 2
A. Dimension. B. Limitation. C. Reputation. D. Discipline.
34. What does Khurshid think of the current guidelines
A. They need improving. B. They are of no meaning.
C. They stress physical activity. D. They cut down sedentary time.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Active Lifestyles Protect Against Sedentary Risks
B. Sedentary Behaviors Under 10.5 Hours Are Safe for Heart
C. Exercise Alone Fails to Fight Against Heart Disease Risks
D. Sedentary Lifestyles Threaten Heart Health Despite Exercise
第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Nutrition is complex in nature, and this complexity is often used to promote ideas that simply aren't true.
Unqualified advice can be harmful and filled with misinformation—especially on social media. 36 .
Myth 1: Skipping meals will help you lose weight quicker
Actually, the opposite may be true. When you skip meals, your body enters “fasting mode” which can slow
down your metabolism(新陈代谢) to conserve energy. 37 , making it easier to store energy as fat, rather
than burning it. To support weight loss, it's better to eat three to four small and balanced meals a day.
Myth 2: You need to eat protein immediately after a workout
38 . If you're exercising hard, you may need to increase your overall food intake to meet your additional
energy requirements (if you're not looking to lose weight, of course). Research shows that the best time for muscle
repair and nutrient absorption can last for up to six hours post-exercise. If you focus on proper recovery instead of
food intake, you'll bounce back faster and be able to train harder in your next session.
Myth 3: 39
Eating late at night won't automatically lead to weight gain, which depends on your overall calorie balance.
However, it's not a good idea to eat too much before bed because your digestion may struggle if you lie down with
a full stomach. Besides, our metabolic rate is typically faster in the morning and slower in the evening. Ideally, it's
recommended that we spread food intake throughout the day.
40 . Keep in mind that the best diet is the one that promotes variety in nutrients, adds enjoyment, and
can easily be sustained.
A. Don't eat too much at night
B. Eating before bed will make you gain weight
C. You need to burn more calories to process it
D. A slower metabolism means that you're not burning energy efficiently
E. Contrary to old beliefs, you don't need to take in protein right after exercising
F. Read on to sort fact from fiction when it comes to some common nutritional claims
G. In a world flooded with nutrition advice, it's easy to be misled by myths 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分 30 分) 第一节(共 15 小题;每小题 1 分,满分 15 分)

“Spring Festival, social practices of the Chinese people in celebration of the traditional New Year” was
successfully included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (ICH), marking
that China's efforts 56 (protect) intangible cultural heritage have been recognized by the world. The
UNESCO made the 57 (decide) at the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the
Safeguarding of the ICH on Wednesday.
China now boasts nearly 870,000 ICH items. Among them, 44 items have been added to the UNESCO ICH
List, 58 (rank) first in the world. China's ICH includes 59 wide range of practices, from Tibetan
Opera to the Mazu belief system, showcasing the country's commitment to preserving the cultural diversity 60
exists within its borders. The Spring Festival is not a unified tradition 61 a cultural phenomenon that
involves various regional customs and celebrations, each contributing to the greater whole.
As the Spring Festival 62 (celebrate) globally, these related ICH forms will also reach other parts of the
world. Beyond the heritage forms themselves, the deeper cultural values and meanings behind them will also
become 63 (know) to people of different cultural backgrounds.
Traditional culture should be 64 (appropriate) integrated into contemporary contexts to achieve greater
impact. Innovative development is the norm for cultural development nowadays. One example of the innovative
65 (aspect) of China's ICH protection efforts is its push for digital preservation. In June 2023, China's Ministry

第二节(满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“The adventure race is starting in five minutes, everyone! Please get ready!” the teacher announced cheerfully.
On a Saturday morning, I was stretching and warming up with the rest of my teammates as the cool morning breeze
brushed against my skin. My school had planned an adventure race for my level and we were required to take
pictures of our surroundings with a camera during the race.
Before I knew it, the adventure race was starting as teams started gathering at the checkpoints. It was not long
before the sound of the whistle was heard. Determinedly, my team members, Irene, Jennie and Lucas started
venturing out in the forest. Walking purposefully onto the path of the forest, we took numerous photographs of the
greenery around us. Not too long after, we started feeling anxious as we could no longer see any trees that were
marked, indicating that we lost the path we were supposed to follow.
Finding ourselves in a fix, we were worried about how we were going to get back on track and were panicking.
“Perhaps... we can look through the photographs we took to see our previous location,” Jennie suggested while
holding the camera. Needless to say, we readily agreed to her idea and started looking through the pictures. Little
did we know that “someone” was stealthily spying us. Out of nowhere, our camera was suddenly taken away!
Apparently nobody was there and we stood in shocked silence, feeling thunderstruck.
Just then, I heard the rustling(沙沙声) of trees. Confused, I looked up at the trees. Then, I saw it! A flash
appeared on one of the tree branches, and I gestured my teammates to keep quiet. I was astonished by the sight that
greeted me. A monkey was holding up our camera on the tree.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150 个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“How are we supposed to get back our one and only camera now ” Irene asked.
Quite coincidentally, we had been back on track.

M: Hello. International Friends Club. Can I help you
W: Oh, hello. I read about your club in the paper today and I thought I'd phone to find out a bit more.
M: Yes, certainly. Well, we are a sort of social club for people from different countries. It's quite a new club—we
have about 50 members at the moment, but we are growing all the time.
W: That sounds interesting. I'm British actually, and I came to Washington about three months ago. I'm looking for
ways to meet people. Er, what kinds of events do you organize
M: Well, we have social get-togethers, and sports events, and we also have language evenings.
W: Could you tell me something about the language evenings
M: Yes. Every day except Thursday we have a language evening. People can come and practice their languages—
you know, over a drink or something. We have different languages on different evenings. Monday—Spanish;
Tuesday—Italian; Wednesday—German; and Friday—French. On Thursday we usually have a meal in a restaurant
for anyone who wants to come.
W: Well, that sounds great. I really need to practice my French.
M: OK. Well, if you can just give me your name and address, I'll send you the form and some more information. If
you join now, you can have the first month free.

W: Yeah, I know her. We had a few classes together last term. Why do you ask
M: I don't think she likes me. She seems kind of proud. She never talks to me.
W: Oh, I'm sure she likes you. I used to think she didn't like me, too.
M: Really
W: Yeah. I thought she was unfriendly, but it turns out that she is actually just not outgoing. She is on the quiet side,
but she is very humorous.
M: So what you're saying is that you really like her.
W: Yeah, I do. Once she felt comfortable with me, she opened up. We get along great now.
M: That's good to know. I'll try a little harder to talk to her.
W: It's great. I'm sure you will be good friends.

M: Hello, everyone. Good news for our students who are interested in arts. There's an exhibition from
November 15 to December 16, 9 am to 7 pm, but it closes on Mondays during the time. Some 30 oil paintings on
paper by British artist, L. S. Lowry, will be on display at the art building of our college. It's the first-ever exhibition
of the artist's works in our college. Lowry is one of Britain's most famous artists, and is a close observer of the UK's
social life. His works mainly show ordinary people on streets, in factories, parks and football fields. It has been said
that the pictures drawn by Lowry are filled with an atmosphere of sadness and loneliness, but also with respect and
a sense of humor. The admission is free, but you have to get a ticket with your student card at the front desk of the
art building. If you forget to get it, you can't go into it. Please call 025-8349-8693 for details. Thank you. 第二节到此结束。 现在,你有两分钟的时间将试卷上的答案转涂到答题卡上。

grand success, with a variety of performances that captivated the audience. The dance club's enchanting routines,
the choir's heartfelt performance of classic songs, and the drama club's funny short drama were the highlights of the
evening.
The entire night was filled with joy and laughter as students and teachers gathered to celebrate the end of the
year together. I was deeply moved by my classmates' talents and enthusiasm. It was an unforgettable night, and I
am already looking forward to next year's gala.
第二节(满分 25 分)
参考范文:
“How are we supposed to get back our one and only camera now ” Irene asked. It was not long before we
started our mission to distract the monkey. In a bid to get the monkey's attention, I cautiously took out a banana
from my backpack. The monkey instantly let go of the camera and its eyes lit up with joy. Meanwhile, Jennie was
jumping around, trying her best to catch the camera. Without wasting a moment, we ran as fast as we could. It was
some time later when we stopped running.
Quite coincidentally, we had been back on track. The marked trees came in our sight. Bearing in mind that we
still needed to complete the adventure race, we made our way along the path. Eventually, we passed the finish line
of the race and were excited with joy to have completed it despite the predicament that we were in. “That was
surely an exciting adventure,” I commented with a cheerful smile as the rest shared the same opinion as I did. I
would never forget my teammates and I working together despite the accident. Recalling the exciting adventure, I
still swelled with pride.
