The following countries have been sitting on hidden talents. And Now they’re about to fly.
NIGERIA (尼日利亚)
Nigeria says it pumps out as much oil as the other two oil-producing countries, Kuwait and Iraq. All this oil is cycling cash into the Nigerian economy and creating extremely rich businessmen. Analysts say that if Nigeria can improve its schools and technology, it could balloon into the world’s 13th largest economy by 2050, right between Turkey and Italy. So what’s the use of producing export-ready goods if there’s no convenient way to ship them The good thing is, however, officials are widening highways, building a new airport and so on.

Nestled in the heart of a mountain village in China’s Guizhou province, there is a unique ecological family farm. It is run by Kevin Cillen, a 28-year-old Belgian who is passionate about the land. With his parents and siblings, they have combined Western farming techniques with local countryside practices to cultivate an “ecological oasis”.
The family’s pursuit of their farming dream in China began in 2000, when Kevin’s mother Hetty Cillen visited China as a volunteer for the first time. The fascinating landscapes and rich cultural heritage of Guizhou fascinated her, causing her to make this foreign country her home. Soon after, his father Patrick Jan Cillen joined her. In 2017, the family rented a plot amid the forest to establish an ecological farm where they laid the foundation, leveling the land, sowing pastures and rearing lambs and chicks.
The locals have openly embraced the foreigners, inviting them to festivities and celebrating traditional Chinese holidays together. In 2018, Yang Chengkai, a 34-year-old villager, befriended the family, often assisting them on the farm. “The community has embraced this family. Even the vendors at the local market contribute by giving them vegetable scraps for free to feed their livestock.” Yang says.
The family farm, hidden within the dense forest, is proof of Guizhou’s ecological progress. The farm practices diversified grass cultivation for high-quality animal feed, uses solar panels for clean energy and employs rainwater harvesting systems for a stable water supply.
Living in China, the 28-year-old Belgian has witnessed the country’s remarkable changes. He has also seized the opportunities of the Internet and new media to increase the farm’s visibility. Partnering with Qiu Ye, a social media influencer, he has set up accounts like “Kevin’s family in Guizhou” on various platforms. Trying to change existing habits or introduce new ones is difficult. The neuronal(神经元的) connections in our brains are strongest for those behaviors we already practice, and weak for those we don’t. Luckily, there’s a way to use our natural inclination(倾向) toward routine to build and maintain a new habit. It’s called habit stacking(叠加), and involves “stacking” the new behavior you’re trying to adopt onto a current behavior.
Let’s say your goal is to drink more water throughout the day, so you decide to start drinking a glass of water every morning. Don’t just assume you’ll start doing it— it probably won’t last long. Instead, pair that new habit with a small everyday habit or routine you already do. You can drink a glass every morning after brushing your teeth. You stack them together and create a small, but growing chain. Every morning, those two actions should be associated with each other. The more regularly you do it, the more automatic it will become.
This concept was popularized by S. J. Scott, who wrote Habit Stacking: 127 Small Changes to Improve Your Health, Wealth, and Happiness. Since then, it’s blown up, with other psychologists adding their own endorsement for the practice.
“Habit stacking is a really effective strategy for building new habits because it builds on the existing neural (神经的) networks in our brains, ” explains Melissa Ming Foynes, a licensed psychologist. “When you add a new habit before or after the existing habit, you’re taking advantage of a structure and cycle that already exists in your brain, rather than strengthening an entirely new neural network.” Foynes also notes that this strategy works beyond the neurophysiological level. “The existing habit serves as a helpful signal to engage in the new habit you’re trying to develop, ” she says.
In the midst of a busy lifestyle, habit sacking can be helpful because the new habits often feel less like an “add-on” when tied to something you already do anyway. This approach can feel more integrated, and therefore, less stressful.
46. Which of the following best describes habit stacking
A. It involves stacking old habits. B. It glues a new habit to an old one.
C It damages old neuronal connections. D. It disturbs the brain’s natural inclination.
47. How does the author explain habit stacking
A. By quoting a definition from a book. B. By making comparisons.
C. By describing a process. D. By giving an example.
48. What does the underlined word “endorsement” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Support B. Service. C. Features. D. Requirements.
49. Why is habit stacking effective in building new habits
A. It strengthens new neural networks. B. It makes use of existing brain patterns.
C. It emphasizes repeating cycles. D. It integrates various helpful signals.
50. What does the author talk about in the last paragraph
A. How to stack your habits.
B. Who are more likely to stack habits.
C. The benefits of habit stacking in modern days.
D. Common challenges people face when trying to stack habits.

Do you think artificial intelligence (AI) should be banned in schools To improve the new development of education, experts and officials believe that generative AI tools should be safely and appropriately applied in schools rather than being banned.
Zheng Qinghua, president of Tongji University, emphasized the importance of taking the opportunities and meeting challenges presented by AI-empowered education. He suggested that young people should be guided to improve their understanding of the knowledge created by technology. Meanwhile, their motivation for learning should also be encouraged.
AI technology has become increasingly important for getting and spreading knowledge, impacting teaching, learning, and school management. Zheng emphasized the widespread use of various models such as Emie Bot, an AI chatbot product developed by Baidu, among college students in China. The tool can write essays, solve science problems, and help students with assignments and tests.
Furthermore, a survey conducted by the online learning platform Study showed that 89 percent of students had used ChatGPT for homework assistance, raising concerns about academic honesty. Instead of merely relying on AI to provide answers or complete homework and tests, people should focus on using AI to develop students’ innovation and integrate professional skills, enabling them to solve real-world problems, said Zheng.
According to Colin Bailey, president of Queen Mary University of London, as ChatGPT grows rapidly, the focus should not be on whether to use AI in education, but on how to use it safely, effectively, and appropriately. Banning AI in schools is not the solution, Bailey concluded. Bailey also warned about the potential harm caused by poorly designed AI.
Efforts to regulate (监管) AI have come out around the world, such as the Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights in the US and a pro-innovation approach to AI regulation in the UK. In China, measures for managing generative AI services have been carried out. Chen Jie, vice-minister of education, emphasized the need for cooperation among education and research institutions to address AI-related issues like privacy leaks and bias.
51. What is Zheng Qinghua’s attitude towards using AI in education
A. Supportive. B. Opposed. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear.
52. What is the primary concern raised by the survey conducted by Study
A. The privacy leaks of using AI tools.
B. Dishonest behavior in the students’ homework.
C. The students’ reliance on AI tools to learn.
D. The students’ preference for AI chatbots to human teachers.
53. What is Colin Bailey’s suggestion on AI tools in schools
A. Prohibiting them due to academic issues.
B. Protecting them from the potential harm.
C. Applying them in a proper and efficient way.
D. Using them without restrictions.
54. The underlined word “address” in the last paragraph can be replaced by ______.
A. Tackle B. React C. Wipe D. Mount
55. What’s the main idea of the last paragraph
A. The unique approach of China in regulating AI.
B. The global agreement on the ban of AI in education.

Whenever photographer Casey Ryan heads into the wilderness, he brings along his drone (无人驾驶飞机) to photograph from a bird’s eye view. On a recent journey to the Cascade Mountain Range in Oregon, Casey was driving through the Willamette National Forest when he came across a stranger whose vehicle was stuck. He had been stuck there for days, so Casey volunteered to help him get his car out. Unluckily, Casey got his own vehicle stuck in a hole while trying to help, leaving both people stuck with no mobile phone service for miles around.
Casey says his mind is always working to find creative solutions to problems. He immediately judged the situation and realized that in order to get mobile phone service, he would need to get higher up the mountain. He remembered a movie he’d seen recently in which a character used a drone to lift his phone high enough to catch a signal, so he pulled out his device and got to work.
He attached his mobile phone to his drone. Then, he typed a series of messages to his wife. He told her where he was located in the park, then held his breath as he attempted to launch the now-heavy drone. He got it going and shipped it up to the sky. The drone soared several hundred feet into the air. Somewhere up there over the tall trees, the phone picked up a signal! All of Casey’s texts were sent. They were saved.
Rescuers arrived and saved both Casey and the other driver. Impressed by Casey’s creative problem-solving skills, people are calling him a “real-life MacGyver,” but he’s just thankful to be out of the woods. Who knows, maybe future drones will have built-in emergency features added thanks to this photographer’s creativity. We’d totally buy a phone drone!

【答案】Good morning, everyone!
It is a great honour for me to give you a speech about How Taking Advice Helped Me Grow.
When faced with difficulty and challenges, what will you do As far as I am concerned, taking advice is an excellent way to deal with the challenges.
As a senior high student, I had great difficulty with so many classes and extracurricular activities, I found it hard to stay organized and keep up with everything. When I shared my struggles with my brother, he recommended that I make a weekly schedule and focus on important tasks. Hie also reminded me to choose activities wisely rather than sign up for everything. Following his advice, I became better at managing my time and felt less pressured.
Under the right guidance, I have realized that even small changes can make a big difference. As a consequence, taking advice truly helped me grow.
Thanks for your attention.
