Steve Taylor was in his room lying down for sleep while his mother Katelyn was taking a shower. She wanted to bathe herself before going to bed. The 5-year-old boy was just about to fall asleep when he heard a loud noise from the bathroom. He hurried to have a look.
When he got to the bathroom, he found his mother lying in the bathtub(浴缸)with blood coming from her head. She had an epileptic fit(癫痫发作)and didn t know anything. However, little Steve kept a cool head.
He first went to his 2-month-old sister and put her in a blanket(毛毯), placing her on the sofa. He then climbed up a chair to open the door. Once the door opened, Steve picked her up from the sofa and went to his neighbor s house. The neighbor, Jessica, was very surprised to see her two young neighbors standing outside her door at such a strange hour.
She first thought the little boy was coming to talk about his dog. But he said, “No, my mom died in the shower. Can you take care of us ” Jessica ran to next door in a hurry and found Katelyn in the shower with the water still running. She called 911 and help arrived just in time.

I will always remember my mother's last few days in this world.
On February 14th, 2000, my class went on a field trip to the beach. I had so much fun. When we returned to school, my teacher told me to go to the headmaster's office. When I got into the office, I saw a police officer. Suddenly I realized something was wrong. The police officer told me what had happened and we went to pick my sister up. After that, we went to the hospital and waited. Time went slowly. Finally, we got to see our mother. It was terrible.
On the next day, the headmaster came and told my two teachers what had happened. I was taking a rest that day. I knew it had something to do with my mother. I kept thinking that she either died or had gotten better. How I wished that she had gotten better! When my teacher took me outside, my sister ran up to me. She started crying, "She's gone. Teresa, mommy's gone. She's dead." I couldn't believe it. We jumped into the car and drove straight to the hospital. Most of my family were there. The silence was terrible. I knew I had to say goodbye.
Today when I look back, I still miss my mother very much, but I know that I will live on. My mother was a strong mother, who had the biggest heart. My mother was an angel walking on the earth. I will always remember her as living. When someone is asked who their hero is, they usually say someone famous, like Michael Jordan or Britney Spears. When someone asks me who my hero is, I tell him/her, my mother. My mother lives every day. That is what makes her a true hero.

In many ways, Ariah is just like any other fourth-grader. She loves the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. She likes to play sports. But there is one thing that makes her stand out: She has alopecia(脱发症). That means she doesn't have any hair.
Millions of Americans have alopecia. Scientists aren't sure what causes it. People living with alopecia don't feel ill at all, but it's not easy.
“People aren't always kind,” Ariah's mom says. “At school, other kids would laugh at her or talk behind her back.”
Luckily, Ariah got help from a group called Locks of Love. The group gives away free wigs(假发) to kids who have lost their hair for some reason.
Madonna W. Coffman is the president of Locks of Love. She knows how hard hair loss can be. Both she and her daughter have alopecia. Then she started Locks of Love.
“Our wigs are different from other wigs. They're custom-made for each child,” Coffman says. “And we collect hair from people across the country and we can get enough hair to make hundreds of wigs each year.”
“Wearing our wigs, kids don't have to worry that they'll fall off while they are playing sports,” says Coffman. “Over time, many kids have become more confident. Some feel so good about themselves that they stop wearing their wigs. They feel fine just the way they are.”
That's what happened to Ariah. Since she got her wig, she has started going to a new school. She has made a lot of close friends. “I just feel more confident,” she says. And she has stopped wearing the wig to school every day. She said that she likes being different.

Dear Mike,
I'm sorry to learn that your eyesight is getting worse. I'd like to share some ways of protecting eyesight in my daily life with you.
At school, I often go out of the classroom to play with my classmates or do physical exercise during the breaks. In my free time, I also try hard to avoid using the mobile phone or the computer. You know, the light they give off is harmful to our eyes. Besides, doing eye exercises plays an important role in relaxing my tired eyes. I usually have my eyes examined every term to make sure my eyes stay healthy.
I hope you will find my ways helpful.
Yours,
Li Hua
