When Param Jaggi was five years old, he had a passion to take things apart to see what was inside. He started with toys and even broke a computer, which made his parents not too pleased. As he got older, he shifted from breaking things to building things, which greatly comforted his parents. In middle school. he started working on projects in his kitchen laboratory, and his first project was making biofuels.
Although Jaggi’s parents initially thought his experiments were just a boyhood fancy, he remained determined to make a difference to the environment. Eventually, his parents came around and started supporting his dreams. Jaggi’s interest continued as he grew up, but he focused more on solving real problems, especially those related to the environment.
At 17, Jaggi went beyond his school projects and co-founded Ecoviate, a company that uses technology to solve everyday energy and environmental problems. He planned to transform people’s idea that going green is expensive, by making available a series of affordable products that are easy to use. Through Ecoviate, he designed products that could contribute to a greener future. One of his notable inventions was the “CO2ube”, a device that could be attached to vehicle tailpipes to reduce carbon emissions, and it’s available to many people at low prices. He also created a smartwatch that changed body heat into energy, which can be used to power up the watch as well as mobile phones.
Young Jaggi, now a third-grade college student studying engineering and economics, has become a famous eco-innovator and his company is developing promisingly. However, Jaggi’s vision to save the environment goes beyond creating products. He plans to launch an online platform through Ecoviate, which will encourage young students interested in science and technology to get actively involved in innovation and invention. Students can submit a science project online, and talk about the help that they need to make the project a reality.
24. What can we learn about Jaggi
A. He was curious by nature. B. He dreamed to be an engineer.
C. He always annoyed his parents. D. He was addicted to playing toys.
25. What does the underlined part “came around” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Won out. B. Paid a visit.

Goldfish may seem like simple creatures swimming in a glass tank, but they possess a rather complicated navigation system, as discovered by researchers at the University of Oxford. Led by Dr. Adelaide Sibeaux, the study aims to shed light on our understanding of how fish, and potentially humans, estimate distances using what could be described as an internal GPS.
Writing in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B, Sibeaux and colleagues report how they created a tank in their experiment with 2cm-wide black and white vertical stripes (垂直条纹) on the walls, connected by similar stripes across the floor. The team trained nine goldfish to swim a set distance of 70cm and then return to their starting point when waved at. The experiment aimed to investigate how the fish would estimate this distance without any gestures, under different patterns.
Over multiple trials, the goldfish averaged a swim distance of 74cm, give or take 17cm, when presented with the vertical 2cm-wide stripes. However, when the stripe pattern was altered to either narrower vertical stripes or horizontal stripes (水平条纹), ① changed significantly. Narrower vertical stripes led them to overestimate the distance by 36%, while horizontal stripes resulted in highly inconsistent estimations.
According to the researchers, the goldfish appeared to be using an “optic (光学的) flow mechanism” based on the visual density (密度) of their environment. They kept track of how frequently the vertical pattern switched between black and white to estimate how far they had traveled. The study suggests that different optic flow mechanisms are used by mammals, including humans, based on angular (有角度的) motion of visual features. The study implies that the use of visually based distance information could have emerged early in the evolutionary timeline.
“This study is novel because, despite knowing that fish respond to geometric information regarding direction and distance, we don’t know how they estimate distances,” Professor Colin Lever, although not involved in the study, said, “it’s exciting to explore fish spatial mapping because fish navigation evolved earlier and better than most mammals.”
28. Why did Dr. Adelaide Sibeaux conduct the study on goldfish
A. To test the accuracy of goldfish’s internal GPS.
B. To create an advanced navigation system for humans.
C. To uncover how an inbuilt GPS helps calculate distances.
D. To explore the relationship between goldfish and humans.
29. The underlined part ① in paragraph 2 can be best replaced by ________.
A. the stripe patterns B. the fish’s behaviour
C. the estimated density D. the trial’s accuracy
30. What can be learned in the last two paragraphs
A. Goldfish calculated distance by tracking visual information.
B. Mammals developed navigation ability long before goldfish.
C. The optic flow mechanism is unique to human beings.
D. Visual density strengthened the goldfish’s locating ability.
31. Which of the following can be the best title for the article
A. Goldfish: Simple Creatures with Powerful Abilities
B. The Evolution of Navigation: From Goldfish to Humans
C. Optic Flow Mechanism: How to Measure Distance
D. The Internal GPS: How Goldfish Navigate Their Ways

September 2022 was apparently the month artificial intelligence essay anxiety boiled over in academia, after a user of an AI writing service claimed to be getting straight A’s with essays written “using AI”. Most professors expressed concern. One wrote, “Grading something an Al wrote is an incredibly depressing waste of my life.”
As all this online depression was playing out, I asked my students to submit a proposal about a local issue, relying on the AI as much as possible. My students used free accessible text generators online and put in a lot of effort. But, if I had believed these were genuine student essays, the very best would have earned somewhere around a C or C-. Many of the essays had obvious red flags for Al generation.
There have been plenty of articles about the supposed impressiveness of Al-generated text. There are even several high-profile Al-written articles, essays or even scientific papers or screenplays that showcase this impressiveness. In many of these cases, the “authors” have access to higher-quality language models than most students are currently able to use. But, more importantly, the published examples are generally the polished form of professional writers and editors. In contrast, many of my students’ Al-generated essays showed the common problems of student writing — uncertainty about the appropriate writing style, inconsistent paragraphing, etc. Obviously, producing a quality essay with AI requires having high writing skill and revising skill to produce appropriate outputs.
My experiment so tells me that a good assignment sheet is the best defense against AI essays. If your assignment is “Describe the reasons for the U. S. Civil War”, you are more likely to get AI or downloaded essay submissions. My assignment was a challenge because it asked students to address local issues of concern. There are just not enough relevant examples in the data the AI text generators are drawing from.
It has been just over five years since computer scientists declared, “We should stop training radiologist (放射科医生) now. Artificial intelligence is going to do better than radiologists.” Well, we’re still training radiologists, and there’s no indication that AI is going to replace human doctors anytime soon. In much the same way, I strongly suspect full-on robot writing will always and forever be “just around the corner”.
32. What does the author imply in paragraph 3
A. Online text generators are not reliable enough.
B. Students should be provided with better models.
C. Revising APPs decide the quality of AI essays.
D. AI-generated texts are more impressive.
33. In the author’s opinion, what may discourage the use of AI text generators
A. Historical issues. B. Unique writing tasks.
C. Accessible information. D. Clear learning guidance.
34. The author mentions the radiologists in the last paragraph to _______.
A. warn against using robot writing
B. explore the future of medical science
C. show the limitations of AI application
D. stress the necessity to train doctors
35. What is the main purpose of the passage
A. To assess AI’s influence on students’ writing.
B. To discuss the threat of AI to the teaching of writing.
C. To appeal for the appropriate application of AI text generators.
D. To analyse the differences between genuine and Al-written essays.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
When I was asked to take part in a forest bathing, I packed a swimsuit, assuming it must involve a refreshing swim in the water. 36
I met Forest Therapy (治疗) guide Melanic Choukas-Bradley and several other women who’d come along for the adventure at an urban forest. Here, I began to get it. Forest bathing isn’t a bath. We sat on the banks of the river, but we did not get in the water. 37 We did walk the forest tracks, but we wandered with no destination in mind.
The aim of forest bathing, Choukas-Bradley explained, is to slow down and become fully bathed in the natural environment. She helped us tune in to the forest’s smells, tastes and sights. 38 As we passed through the trees, we touched their trunks, feeling the roughness beneath our fingers. We smelled the flowers, each breath being a celebration of nature’s beauty.
There’s a growing body of evidence that shows forest bathing can help boost mood and reduce stress. 39 A 2011 study comparing city walks to forest walks found the forest environment led to greater reductions in blood pressure, despite both activities requiring equal physical effort.
40 Most of human history was spent in environments that lack buildings and walls, and our bodies have adapted to living in the natural world. But today most of us spend much of our life indoors. Perhaps the new forest bathing trend is a recognition that many of us need a little nudge to get back out there.
A. It’s not a hike, either.
B. It turns out that my interpretation was literal.
C. The benefits of nature can be accessed simply.
D. Forest bathing frees us from worldly engagements.
E. The idea that spending time in nature is good is not new.
F. Indeed, medical researchers have demonstrated its benefits.
G. We took in the peaceful surroundings by using all our senses.

Human brain cannot learn all by itself. We need to train ourselves to be better learners — to 41 take part in the learning process. These kinds of learning behaviors are called “active learning”.
There are two kinds of voices. Your inner voice expresses your 42 opinions, while the outer voice tells you about opinions from what you hear or read. Although your inner voice can be useful, it can also 43 in the way of learning. If you keep paying too much attention to it, you risk missing important information. Instead, active learners are open-minded and focus on what the speaker is saying, not on what their 44 is saying in the background.
If you find your inner voice difficult to control, you can 45 with it as most active learners do. When your inner voice tells you a speaker is wrong, think about why the speaker may be right. Be flexible in your opinions and you might end up 46 the speaker after all.
Asking questions is the easiest way to 47 active learning. When you get information from someone, from books or the Internet, ask some questions about the topic. The 48 will lead you to further learning, and the very act of working out questions will help you to achieve a higher level of understanding about the topic. In short: Do not stop being 49 .
Active learners do not 50 everything they learn. They attempt to find the truth at the heart of each idea. Even when an idea sounds entirely 51 , there may be an aspect of it that is based on truth. If you try to find out the 52 of an idea, no matter how crazy it seems, you will increase your chance of learning something.
Many people refuse to learn what is said because of who the speaker is. It is true that we cannot help 53 some people. But do not forget you can still learn from them. Active learners do not 54 people based on first impressions or personal feelings. This 55 the other way as well — do not just assume that some people are always right just because they are your friends.
41. A. carefully B. actively C. negatively D. meaninglessly
42. A. personal B. public C. wrong D. right

第二节 (共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
The English word “garden” gives an entirely wrong idea of the Chinese yuan, for “garden” suggests a lawn and a wide 56 (vary) of flowers, altogether too formal and tidy to suit Chinese taste. The Chinese yuan suggests first of all a wild landscape, perhaps better arranged and more 57 (artistic) planned than nature, but still a bit of nature itself, with trees, creeks, and flowers. Dotted in this natural landscape 58 (be) the human structures like pavilions and long winding corridors, so perfectly belonging to the scenery as to become a whole with it. The Chinese garden 59 (characterize) by studied disorderliness. There are no even-cut bushes or symmetric (对称的) rows lining avenues.
No Chinese house allows an outsider 60 (look) through the iron gates, for that would be against the principle of concealment (隐蔽). 61 (face) the gate, we see a small courtyard giving no idea of the expansiveness of space inside, and leading one step by step into newer views, in 62 continual series of surprises and astonishments. 63 wooden framework supporting most of the weight of the house, windows, doors and walls are not limited to certain locations. The essential idea of interior (室内的) decoration is the beauty of simplicity. Home designs are not something impressive we buy from a first-class firm. What tells a home from a public building is the personal touch that we give 64 . It is only when the spirit of leisure and loving care exists 65 living at home can become an art and a pleasure.

Amanda lived in a big modern city. Due to the high-speed development of economy, families from different backgrounds came here to find a better life. Amanda’s classmate and friend, Rose, was from one of those families.
One day after school, Amanda and Rose were chatting and Rose mentioned how much she missed her friends and hometown. “It is hard to leave,” Rose sighed, “but my family needed to be somewhere that is easier to make a living. Holding Rose’s hands, Amanda encouraged her to share more and she knew Rose loved to sing and dance with her friends back in her hometown.
After learning about Rose’s story, Amanda started to notice more students like Rose in her school. For the first time she realized that those students looked sad in their eyes. Sometimes because of their different accents, they couldn’t communicate well with others, which made them always sit or stand silently at the back of the classroom.
“They are having a hard time. We should show them kindness and love!” she told her mother one day. Amanda asked her mother what she could do to help make them feel welcome. Amanda’s mother suggested, “What about using art Maybe it will be easier to communicate through art.” Amanda thought for a while and nodded. Like her friend Rose, Amanda loved all forms of art, like painting, singing, dancing, and performing, through which she could tell different stories about her family, and her life.
The next day, Amanda went to the Activity Center in her school and proposed her plan of an art show. The officer thought it a great idea. Inspired and excited, Amanda set about her plan with several friends. At the Activity Center they filled a room with paper, paint and pencils. They even made a small stage! Everything ready, they invited all the new students in her school and Amanda encouraged them to share something special about their hometown in any art form. To Amanda’s surprise, no one responded.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Amazingly, Rose stepped forward to break the ice. Everything seemed to change after that art show.
