Last week I visit ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ed one of my old neighborhoods in Washington D.C.I had not been there for twenty years and as I walked along the street, my mind was flooded by memories of the past. I saw the old apartment building where I had lived and the playground where I had played. As I viewed these once familiar surroundings, images of myself as a child there came to mind. However, what I saw and what I remembered were not the same. I sadly realized that the best memories are those left untouched.
My old apartme ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )nt building, as I remember, was bright and alive. It was more than just a place to live. It was a movie house, a space station, or whatever my young mind could imagine. I would steal away with my friends and play in the basement. This was always exciting because it was so cool and dark, and there were so many things there to hide among. There was a small river in the back of the building. We would go there to lie in the shade of trees and enjoy ourselves.
However, what I saw ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) was completely different. The apartment building was now in disrepair. What was once more than a place to live looked hardly worth living in. The windows were all broken. The once clean walls were covered with dirty marks. The river was hardly recognizable. The water was polluted and the trees and flowers were all dead. The once sweet-smelling river now smelled terrible. It was really heartbreaking to see all this.
I do not regre ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )t having seen my old neighborhood. However, I do not think my innocent childhood memories can ever be the same. I suppose it is true when they say, “You can never go home again.”

People la ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ugh and people cry. But it is thought that emotions such as anger, grief or joy, typically make Americans feel uncomfortable and embarrassed. The shedder of tears(落泪者) is likely to apologize, even when a great tragedy was the cause. The observer of tears is likely to do everything possible to put an end to the emotional tears. But judging from recent studies of crying behavior, both those responses to tears are often inappropriate and may even be counterproductive (适得其反).
Humans are the ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )only animals clearly known to shed emotional tears. Since evolution has given rise to few purposeless physiological responses, it is logical to assume that crying has one or more functions that increase survival.
Although some ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )observers have suggested that crying is a way to ask for assistance form others (as a crying baby might from its mother), the shedding of tears is hardly necessary to get help. Vo-cal (出声的) cries would have been quite enough, more likely than tears to gain attention. So, it appears that there must be something special about tears themselves.
Indeed, the new ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) studies suggest that emotional tears may play a direct role in easing stress. University of Minnesota researchers who are studying the chemical composition of tears have recently separated two important chemicals from emotional tears. Both chemicals are found only in tears that are shed in response to emotion. Tears shed because of exposure to cut onion would contain no such substance.
Other researchers are looking into the usefulness of tears as a means of diagnosing human ills and monitoring drugs. At Tulane University’s Teat Analysis Laboratory Dr. Peter Kastl and his colleagues report that they can use tears to detect drug abuse, to study the causes of "dry eye" syndrome(综合症) and the effects of eye surgery, and perhaps even to measure exposure to environmental pollutants.
64. What does ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) the phrase "both those responses" in Paragraph 1 refer to
A. Crying out of sorrow and shedding tears for happiness.
B. The embarrassment and unpleasant feelings of the observers.
C. Linking ill ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ness with crying and finding the chemical composition of tears.
D. The tear shedder’s ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) apology and the observer’s effort to stop the crying.
65. It is known from the first paragraph that____.
A. shedding tears gives unpleasant feelings to Americans
B. crying may often result in tragedy
C. crying usually wins sympathy from other people
D. one who sheds tears in public will be blamed
66. From the passage we can infer that____.
A. it is unnatural for people to shed tears
B. we can reduce our stress by shedding tears
C. shedders of tears can' t get help by crying loudly
D. unlike animals, humans can shed tears for survival

She examined hi ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )m closely, and decided she liked him much better now, dressed up in a beautiful coat, with a fine feather on top of his hat. And, she named him Feathertop.

Feathertop ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )found the streets in town, and many people started to look at him. They looked at his beautiful purple coat and his white silk stockings, and at the pipe he carried in his left hand, which he put back into his mouth every five steps he walked. They thought he was a visitor of great importance.
As Feathertop walke ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )d along one of the quieter streets near the edge of town, he saw a very pretty girl standing in front of a small red brick house. A little boy was standing next to her. The pretty girl smiled at Feathertop, and love entered her heart. It made her whole face bright with sunlight.

第Ⅱ卷(非选择题 三部分 共35分)
第四部分 任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)
In addition to ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )self-awareness, imagination, and conscience, it is the fourth quality — independent will — that really makes effective self-management possible. It is the ability to make decisions and choices and to act in agreement with them. It is the ability to act rather than to be acted upon, to actively carry out the program we have developed through the other three qualities.
The human will is ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) an amazing thing. Time after time, it has overcome unbelievable difficulties. The Helen Kellers of this world give dramatic(给人深刻印象的) evidence to the value, the power of the independent will.
But as we examine this quality in the context of effective self-management, we realize it’s usually not the dramatic, the visible(可见的), the once-in-a-lifetime, up-by-the-bootstraps(自立自强的) effort that brings lasting success. This special ability comes from learning how to use this great quality in the decisions we make every day.
The degree to w ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )hich we have developed our independent will in our everyday lives is measured by our personal honesty. Honesty is, fundamentally, the value we place on ourselves. It’s our ability to make and keep promises to ourselves, to “walk our talk.”
Effective mana ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )gement is putting first things first. While leadership decides what “first things” are, it is management that puts them first, day-by-day, moment-by-moment. Management is discipline (training to be self-controlled), carrying it out.
Discipline ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )obtains from belief—belief in a set of values, belief in an overriding(最主要的) purpose, to a long-term or short term goal that must be carried out.
In other word ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )s, if you are an effective manager of yourself, your discipline comes from within; it is a function of your independent will. You are a follower of your own deep values and their source. And you have the will, the quality to control your feelings and moods rather than depend on others or have your work half done.

Children in kinderg ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )arten are learning social skills. For this reason, it’s important to tell the children what will make them become good citizens when they grow up. It’s up to parents, teachers and all others involved with a kid to teach these skills.
Teaching kids to pick up things by themselves is a good way to teach them not to throw things on the ground. For example, if a class has to make paper cutouts (剪下的图样), after cutting, have the children pick up the wastepaper and place it in the wastebasket.
The golden rule ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )of good citizenship should be taught at this age. The rule is “One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself”. Teachers should ask their students how they want to be treated. There are many answers, such as not being treated in bad manners. The teacher should explain that others don’t like to be scared, so you should not scare others either.
Following th ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )e laws is good citizenship. Proper games can be played in the classroom. Games have rules, and all students in the class should follow the rules of the games. If a child doesn’t want to follow, it is up to the teacher to explain them to the child. Teaching children about following rules should help them understand the need to obey the law when they become adults.

The writer ill ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ustrates that it is important to teach children some skills of becoming good citizens. Therefore, he suggests teaching children to pick up things by themselves, to respect others and follow the laws.
As far as I am concerned, a civilized citizen is supposed to respect others. In public places, such as restaurants, stations or hospitals, a civilized citizen would not speak or talk loudly. Besides, a civilized citizen ought to be always ready to reach out their helping hands. Last but not the least, a civilized citizen should be aware of the significance of obeying the law.
As a senior high ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) school student, I will do what I can to become a civilized citizen in my daily life. For example, I will pick up rubbish on the ground and put it into the dustbin. On my way to school, I will follow the traffic rules. All in all, I will do what I am expected to do. Only in this way can we make our hometown a more comfortable place for all of us to live in.
