4 Really Strange Beaches
Sandy stretches of gray, brown or even white are the world's norm. Even rocky beaches or those with sheer cliffs barring passage for everyone save the bravest adventurers are not rare. These unique beaches are some of the best treats nature has to offer.
Papakōlea Beach, Hawaii, USA
Papakōlea Beach is a green sand beach located near South Point, in the Ka‘u district of the island of Hawaiti. One of only two green sand beaches in the World, the other being in Galapagos Islands.

San Alfonso del Mar Beach, Chile
This beach is located between the largest artificial pool. San Alfonso del Mar Beach is an essential part of the luxurious resort of the same name.
It seems a strange spot for the world's largest swimming pool. But the pool's remarkable spaciousness(宽敞)complements the ocean beyond rather effortlessly, and jumping in the pool's 79°F(26℃)water is a much more attractive prospect than venturing into the 63°F(17℃)seawater nearby.
Maho Beach, Sint Maarten
Maho Beach is a beach on the Dutch side of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, in the country of Sint Maarten. It is famous for the Princess Juliana International Airport next to the beach.
Arriving aircraft must touch down as close as possible to the beginning of Runway 10 due to the short runway length of 380 metres, resulting in aircraft on their final approach flying over the beach at minimal altitude.
Ocean Dome, Japan
This is an artificial beach constructed in the Seagaia resort along the coastal highway outside the city of Myazaki in Japan it has a fully controlled indoor climate throughout the year.
The Ocean Dome, which was a popular part of the Sheraton Seagaia Resort, measures 300 meters in length and 100 meters in width.

After spending her own time in the hospital, Katy has found a way to bring joy to patients.
Over 2 years ago, Katy was recovering from spinal surgery(脊柱手术). Though it did aid in adjusting the shape of her spine, she still spent much of her time in recovery. In a recent blog, her mother claims music has provided the most healing for her condition. Music is better than any drug we could ever give her. For the last few years she has tried to figure out the best way to use her voice.
She then found out Musicians On Call has regular programs near her, and immediately applied so she could deliver the healing power of music just as it healed her. After her first program, her spirit was getting better and better. "She gave a few lessons to nurses in the hallway and made a doctor into a new fan." When thinking about why this moment brought so much joy, her mother had this to say: We have been there. We know the days that tum into weeks and seem to go on forever. Katy knows how music can heal the uncertainty in those days and the loneliness of us. I think Katy has found a place to use her voice to bring comfort, to bring joy, to make even the tiniest of patients dance.
Special thanks to Katy and her mother for sharing their story on their blog! If you're interested in helping deliver the healing power of music, we are currently seeking Volunteer Guides and Musicians in Las Vegas, New Orleans, Memphis, and Denver. You can start your Volunteer journey by filling out our application today!

The oceans play a crucial role in lightening global warming by absorbing carbon dioxide emissions. However, in a study conducted by the University of Texas, researchers found that the oceans' capacity to absorb carbon dioxide(CO2)would reach its maximum by 2100 and decrease to half of its current efficiency by 2300, based on a climate simulation that was set for a worst-case emissions scenario(设想).
The decline happens because of a surface layer of low-alkalinity(碱度)water that hinders the ability of the oceans to absorb CO2. Alkalinity affects how much CO2 can dissolve in seawater. Although the emissions scenario used in the study is unlikely because of global efforts to limit greenhouse gas emissions, the findings reveal a previously unknown tipping point that if activated would release an important brake on global warming.
"We need to think about these worst-case scenarios to understand how our CO2 emissions might affect the oceans not just this century, but next century and the following century," said Megumi Chikamoto, who led the research at the University of Texas Institute. Climate simulations had previously shown that the oceans slow their absorption of CO2 over time, but none had considered alkalinity as an explanation. The researchers recalculated pieces of a 450-year simulation until they hit on alkalinity as a key cause of the slowing.
The effect begins with extreme climate change, which slows ocean currents. This leaves the surface of the oceans covered in a warm layer of fresh water that won't mix easily with the cooler, more alkaline waters below it. That means more of it is left behind in the atmosphere. This in turn produces faster warming, which sustains and strengthens the low-alkalinity surface layer. Co-author, Pedro DiNezio, said that the discovery was a powerful reminder that the world needs to reduce its CO emissions to avoid crossing this and other tipping points.
28. What may happen after the year 2300
A. More CO2 is absorbed by the oceans.
B. The oceans lose all its current efficiency.
C. The world faces even more severe warming.
D. The oceans are less crucial to global warming.
29. What does the underlined word "hinders" in Paragraph 2 mean
A. Improves. B. Weakens. C. Prevents. D. Controls.

B. They will decide on the future of human beings.
C. They will slow down CO2 absorption gradually.
D. Their ability to absorb CO2 is at its maximum.
31. Where is this text probably taken from
A. A biology textbook. B. A government report.
C.A marine fiction. D. An environmental journal.

Bill Gates once said, "I choose a lazy person to do a hard job, because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it." If the fact that these words were from one of the most financially successful people in human history doesn't tell you something, I'm not sure what will.
How often do you follow a path in a park, only to see the grass has been trampled on by so many corner-cutters that it's formed its own little shortcut These little shortcuts are called "desire paths," as they basically tell the world that these are people who would rather go the way they want rather than the way others want them to.
We don't always need to make things unnecessarily hard for ourselves. After all, taking shortcuts isn't always a bad thing in life. Many of the greatest inventions are the by-products of someone simply wanting to find a quicker way to do things. You can be sure that the bicycle was invented by someone who was sick of walking, not to mention the invention of the wheel probably came about after someone didn't want to carry everything anymore.
In an age where saving energy is not only encouraged but something we all need to incorporate more into our lives, these are the people we should be working towards. From finding a better way to go about a given task in work to figuring out a quicker route home, it all comes back to the idea of working smarter being better than working harder. If your mind has worked out a way to make things easier for yourself and get the job done quickly then go ahead and do it.
32. What does the author think of what Bill Gates said
A. Ridiculous. B. Unreasonable. C. Believable. D. Questionable.
33. Why do corner-cutters trample on the grass
A. They are afraid of being left behind.
B. They prefer to find a new way they like.
C. They just want to follow others' desire paths.
D. They are accustomed to being different from others.
34. Which of the following is advised by the author
A. Take shortcuts only when it is necessary.
B. Avoid people who like to take shortcuts.
C. Always make things hard for improvement.
D. Assess the effect of taking shortcuts properly.
35. What is the best title of the text
A. Work Smarter, Not Harder B. Learn from Successful People
C. Love Our Parks, Love Our Life D. Find Out Our Own Desire Paths

However, asking the owner directly to pick up after their dog will often work to fix the problem.37. . Maybe they think no one notices or that their actions don't directly affect those around them. Asking the person directly lets them know you, and others, have noticed their actions and are being affected negatively by them.

My wife and I are raising my ten-year-old son, my eight-year-old niece, and my seven-year-old daughter. We adopted my niece more than a year ago. My sister was a single mother, and my niece, sister, and her were in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. My sister died. My niece survived but was paralyzed from her lower back down, and she had to come to terms with her mom's death, adjust to living in our family, and learn how to live her new life in a wheelchair.
At first, we were worried about how our kids would react to their cousin living with us. She wasn't close to us before; the reason we were adopting her was that she didn't have anywhere else to go. Our kids had met her a few times before. Due to the hospital's regulations, the only visitors allowed in the hospital she was staying at were adults, and they really preferred that those adults were my wife and me. We tried to have the kids talk on the Internet, but they never really connected. My son in particular can be very resistant to any changes at home and was pretty upset already about the ways we were changing our house to make it more accessible.
We brought my niece home after a few months in the hospital, and as expected, my son wasn't incredibly happy about this. He didn't say anything to her face about it, but she could tell he wasn't happy about her being there. The next morning, I woke up at seven, and as I went into the kitchen to start making breakfast, I saw my niece's wheelchair...but no niece in it. I heard strange noises coming from the living room, and I walked in to see my son with my niece sitting on his shoulders, my niece being very small for her age.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式作答。
They were both laughing and searching for something on the shelf above the fireplace. Obviously they had become friends through the discovery of the missing glasses.

第四部分 写作
第一节
A different volunteering experience I've got various experience, but one volunteering experience has stuck in my memory. Two years ago, several classmates and I went to the nearby Children's welfare home to work as volunteers. On our arrival, we handed out some delicious cakes and other gifts we had prepared among the children. Then we did some work such as cleaning their bedrooms, watering the flowers in the yard and so on. Heading backing home at the end of the day, we were tired but we all agreed that it was a very meaningful day!
第二节
They were both laughing and searching for something on the shelf above the fireplace. I got my niece back into her wheelchair and asked what happened. They told me that my niece's glasses had somehow ended up on the shelf. My son was too short to see it from where he was standing, and my niece was too nearsighted to find her glasses without wearing them, so they were just doing their best to work together to find the glasses. Obviously they had become friends through the discovery of the missing glasses. However, I was secretly worried that my son had just picked her up and put her on his shoulders. Later, we had a long talk about safety. In fact, I was also incredibly relieved that my niece had been accepted. My son said that it was impossible to stay mad at his cousin when she's such an amazing person. So far it’s been six months, and my son, niece, and daughter are best friends.
