A 99-year-old Australian swimmer appears to have broken a world record for his age group in the 50m freestyle. The likely new world record holder, George Corones, clocked 56. 12 seconds at an official event in Queensland—a new benchmark(基准) for the 100-104 age group. He broke the old record of 1h31m19s, which was set by British swimmer John Harrison in 2014, by 35 seconds. It will now be recognized by the sport’s governing body.
Corones, who was upset for Harrison’s record because he would turn 100 in April, said he was “quite pleased” and “over the world” by the result. He said he had been flooded by the “cheering crowd on the Gold Coast on Wednesday”. The event, in which he was the only new member, had been specially staged for him to challenge the record.
Corones was a good swimmer in his youth but only began to learn swimming again at the age of 80. He gave it up at the beginning of the World WarⅡ, and he didn’t think he would have a swim of any description until he retired (退休). Then he started swimming again for exercise.
Racing undeniably challenged him physically, but it was manageable with preparation. On average he swims three times a week, and also fits in gyms. “At this age it takes a while to get going… you get tired much more easily. But if you do it properly, the rewards(回报)are huge,” he said.
Corones will challenge the 100m freestyle record on Saturday night, believing he can beat the present mark of 3h23m10s, which was also set by Harrison.
“I’m not a young man by any means, but I am greatly looking forward to it and confident I can do it very well,” he said.
24. What does the author intend to do in paragraph 1
A. Stress the importance of age.
B. Lead in the topic of the text.
C. Show a new record broken by John Harrison in 2016.
D. Introduce John Harrison’s life.
25. How did Corones feel about his record
A. Amazed. B. Bored. C. Excited. D. Tired.
26. When did Corones begin to learn swimming again
A. In his childhood. B. At the age of 80.
C. During the World WarⅡ. D. At the age of up to 100.
27. What can we learn from the text
A. It’s never too late to learn.
B. Do well and have well.
C. He who laughs last laughs best.
D. Everything is hard in the beginning.
C
“Shuan Q” is a meme(网络流行语)which can be used as a popular way to say “I’m speechless” with a matching emoji(表情包) attached behind. No one can deny the power of the Internet, Some believe it makes language weaker but some see a brighter side, believing it makes online communication easier between strangers.
A primary school teacher in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, says that the development of Internet slang (网络用语) is not all fun and carefree. From his daily observations, he believes the “geographic boundary” between Internet slang and formal language is disappearing. On many occasions, the composition he has received from students have been flooded with shortened Internet slang words.
During last year’s Two Sessions, several representatives put forward proposals such as “regulating(规范) of language” and “banning rude words”, specifically to solve the problem, expressing the need to reduce online language misuse and strengthen the protection of Chinese.
However, many experts and scholars of linguistics and communication including Feng Zhiwei disagree. Feng believes that Internet language is a natural product of the dynamic development of language, and it is not necessary to ban it.

In many stories, wolves are often considered as cruel and scary villains (反派角色),such as in “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”, “Little Red Riding Hood” and “The Three Little Pigs”. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Around 150 years ago, wolves were common across North America. When settlers arrived, they feared that wolves would threaten humans, livestock, and natural resources. As a result, a campaign was started to wipe out wolves, resulting in the last grey wolf pack in Yellowstone National Park being killed in 1926.
In reality, wolves seldom attack humans. Biologists studying these animals in the wild have noted that when approached, adult wolves will leave the area and only return after the researchers have left.
The overhunting of wolves destroyed the natural ecosystem, leading to harmful effects on other species. For instance, the absence of wolves led to a rapid increase in their prey (猎物), such as elk (驼鹿). These plant eaters started eating the specific trees that beavers (河狸) depended on for building dams. Without enough wood for dam construction, especially during winter, the beaver population decreased.
48 years after the last wolf pack was hunted in Yellowstone, the ecosystem was struggling. The grey wolf was reintroduced with the help of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Park Service, environmental organizations, zoos, and private citizens. The reintroduction of wolves has already led to positive changes in the ecosystem. Beaver dams have multiplied; vegetation is growing. And remains left by wolves feed smaller animals in the wild.
Next time you hear of villainous wolves in stories, remember that they play an important role in keeping the natural balance. Their hard work ensures the circle of life continues, and their presence is a must for a healthy ecosystem.
32. Why does the author refer to three stories
A. To stress a misunderstanding of wolves.
B. To list the importance of telling stories.
C. To show the effects of the stories on humans.
D. To show grey wolves died out in 1926.
33. What can be inferred from the biologists’ research on wolves
A. They attack humans in the wild.
B. They prefer to live in city areas.
C. They avoid interacting with humans.
D. They are naturally harmful to humans.
34. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The limited food resources for wolves.
B. The reasons for the extinction of wolves.
C. The biological influences of wolf extinction.
D. The studies about the living habits of wolves.
35. What happens with the grey wolves reintroduced
A. Animals in the wild decrease in number.
B. Organizations work together more closely.
C. The wolves are still struggling for their life.
D. The ecosystem begins to recover gradually.

As I entered my freshman year of college, I happily moved into my dormitory (宿舍).
My roommate, Alex, welcomed me with a half-hearted smile. We exchanged greetings, but something felt strange. Maybe it was the way Alex’s eyes looked around the room. Or perhaps it was just the tension (紧张局面) that hung in the air.
Alex and I were as different as storms and sunny days. I was an early bird, while Alex stayed up late at night. I preferred a tidy space, while Alex kept things everywhere. Our disagreements grew from the dirty floor to late-night music.
One evening, after a long tiring day of classes, I returned to find my favorite cup broken on the kitchen floor. Alex stood there, looking at a loss. I felt very unhappy and started shouting at Alex. Words hurt each other’s feelings. Hate and anger filled the room. “If I had a choice, I wouldn’t live with you!” I shouted, and then hurried out of the dormitory, leaving Alex alone.
Days turned into weeks, and Alex and I continued to be like strangers sharing the same space. I dealt with my studies and spent more time outside the dormitory. Alex, however, seemed to stay in his own world. We almost had no communication with each other.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;

Dear Tom,
I’m Li Hua, one of your students. We are required to choose subjects for Gaokao, which upsets me a lot. So I’m writing to ask you for help.
To begin with, choosing physics or history is the biggest headache for me, which results from the fact that I like both subjects and do well in them. Besides, what bothers me a lot is that I find it hard to choose the other two subjects. The reason why I think so is that I’m confused about my future career. Could you please offer me some advice
I would appreciate it if you could do me a favor. Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours.
Li Hua
But one day, I found Alex sitting on his bed, and his eyes were red. Not knowing what had happened, I was taken aback, trying to figure out how to start a conversation after these days of cold war with Alex. Sensing my hesitation, Alex rose up from his bed, handed me a new cup and said in a low voice that he was sorry for breaking my cup. Touched by his sincerity and friendliness, I accepted the new cup, patted gently on his shoulder and told him that I shouldn’t have shouted at him either. Realizing that the ice between us broke, Alex added, “I know we’re different, but maybe we can find a middle ground.” Then we looked at each other and burst into laughter.
We started with small changes. Alex began setting an alarm to wake up earlier, trying his best to match my schedule, and he also managed to keep his side of room more organized. I, on the other hand, learned to be more tolerant of his occasional mess. Although friction still occurred between us from time to time, instead of avoiding each other, we communicated effectively and calmly to avoid misunderstandings. As days passed, we gradually opened up to each other, sharing stories about our families, hobbies and dreams. Our dormitory, once filled with tension, was now filled with laughter. It was from the incident that we realized our differences could actually enrich our lives.

根据第一段“In many stories, wolves are often considered as cruel and scary villains (反派角色), such as in ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘The Three Little Pigs’. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Around 150 years ago, wolves were common across North America. (在许多故事中,狼通常被认为是残忍和可怕的反派角色,如《狼来了》《小红帽》和《三只小猪》。然而,这与事实相去甚远。)”以及第二段“In reality, wolves seldom attack humans. Biologists studying these animals in the wild have noted that when approached, adult wolves will leave the area and only return after the researchers have left. (实际上,狼很少攻击人类。在野外研究这些动物的生物学家注意到,当被接近时,成年狼会离开该区域,只有在研究人员离开后才会回来。)”可推知,作者提到关于狼的三个故事是为了强调人们对狼的误解。故选A。
根据第二段“Biologists studying these animals in the wild have noted that when approached, adult wolves will leave the area and only return after the researchers have left. (在野外研究这些动物的生物学家注意到,当被接近时,成年狼会离开该区域,只有在研究人员离开后才会回来。)”可知,从生物学家对狼的研究中可以推断出它们避免与人类互动。故选C。
34.C主旨大意题。根据第三段“The overhunting of wolves destroyed the natural ecosystem, leading to harmful effects on other species. For instance, the absence of wolves led to a rapid increase in their prey (猎物), such as elk (驼鹿). These plant eaters started eating the specific trees that beavers (河狸) depended on for building dams. Without enough wood for dam construction, especially during winter, the beaver population decreased. (对狼的过度捕猎破坏了自然生态系统,对其他物种产生了有害影响。例如,狼的消失导致它们的猎物迅速增加,比如驼鹿。这些食草动物开始吃河狸赖以建造水坝的特定树木。河狸没有足够的木材来建造水坝,特别是在冬天,于是它们的数量减少了。)”可知,第三段主要讲的是狼灭绝的生物学影响。故选C。
35.D细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“The reintroduction of wolves has already led to positive changes in the ecosystem. Beaver dams have multiplied; vegetation is growing. And remains left by wolves feed smaller animals in the wild. (狼群的重新引入已经给生态系统带来了积极的变化。由河狸建造的水坝的数量在增加,植被也在生长,狼留下的残骸在野外喂养较小的动物。)”可知,重新引入灰狼使生态系统开始逐渐恢复。故选D。
