When I was nine years old, I never dreamed that the small vending machine (自动售货机) I had owned would turn me into a small business owner. Wanting to inspire his daughter’s business sense, my dad brought home a vending machine he had purchased from a friend. Setting it down in front of me in our living room, he asked in all seriousness, “Do you want to start a business ” I said yes.
I owned 15 vending machines by the time I left high school, with all of the profits going toward my college fund. In addition to being a great bonding experience for my family, I couldn’t tell you how many skills I learned from starting and developing my own business that helped me gain responsibility. I learned that not every experience in life led to the comforting encouragement: Well, you were tried. You should face bravely all kinds of difficulties.
Understanding both personal and professional finances is one of the most important life lessons to learn—the earlier, the better. I had to be fearless and confident—learning these skills at a young age saved me from speaking with difficulty through presentations later in life. Truly understanding what you’re selling displays confidence and reliability, as does truly believing in prehending the ins and outs of your product and business shines through when speaking with clients though rejection (拒绝) happens all the time.
Throughout the unbelievable experience of running my own business in my childhood, I’ve learned valuable skills that help me in my school, job and personal life. I believe in the value of customer service. I go after clients and chances and understand that sometimes things don’t go my way. With the help of my parents and customers who supported me, I grew up as a young entrepreneur with skills to keep for the rest of my life.
24.Why did the author’s dad give her a vending machine
A.To earn her college fund. B.To raise her business awareness.
C.To complete her class project. D.To enrich her after-class life.
25.What does the author think of her experience of running vending machines
A.It was tough but worthwhile. B.It was scary but smooth.
C.It distanced her from her family. D.It taught her how to refuse clients.
26.What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us about the author
A.Her attitude towards rejection.
B.Her understanding of financial problems.
C.Her insight into her business experience.
D.Her vision of the future vending machines.
27.What can we infer from the text
A.One can succeed without support.
B.One is never too old to run the business.
C.Customer needs matters most in business.
D.Abilities acquired will pay off in the future.

Wild animals seem to have escaped the Indian Ocean tsunami, adding weight to the idea that they have a “sixth sense” for disasters, experts said on Thursday.
Sri Lanka wildlife officials have said the waves that killed over 24,000 people along the Indian Ocean island’s coast seemingly missed wild beasts, with no dead animals found.
“No elephants are dead, not even a dead hare or rabbit. I think animals can sense disaster. They have a ‘sixth sense’. They know when things are happening,” H.D.Ratnayake, director of Sri Lanka’s Wildlife Department, said on Wednesday.
The waves washed floodwaters up to 3 km (2 miles) inland at Yala National Park in the southeast, Sri Lanka’s biggest wildlife reserve and home to hundreds of wild elephants. “There has been a lot of evidence (证据) about dogs barking or birds migrating before volcanic eruptions or earthquakes. But it has not been proved.” said Matthew van Lierop, an animal behaviour specialist at Johannesburg Zoo. “There have been no specific studies because you can’t really test it in a lab or field setting,” he said. Other authorities agreed with this conclusion.
“Wildlife seems to be able to pick up certain signs, especially birds. There are many reports of birds detecting coming disasters,” said Clive Walker, who has written several books on African wildlife.
Animals certainly rely on the known senses such as smell or hearing to avoid danger such as predators (掠食动物). The idea of an animal “sixth sense” is a lasting one that the evidence on Sri Lanka’s damaged coast is likely to add to.
28.What happened after the Indian Ocean tsunami
A.Many people died but wild animals survived. B.The “six sense” of wild animals developed
C.Wild beasts were killed or went missing D.The coast was found in good condition.
29.What does H.D.Ratnayake do
A.He is a zoo keeper. B.He is a wildlife official.
C.He is a movie director. D.He is an animal behaviour expert.
30.Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word “detecting” in paragraph 5
A.Taking up. B.Putting up. C.Picking up. D.Bringing up.
31.What is the text mainly about
A.Animals can save themselves from human activity.
B.Animals’ natural power to escape from danger.
C.How to protect wildlife when disasters happen.
D.The serious damage of the Indian Ocean tsunami.

The Chinese calendar has 24 solar terms. Jingzhe is from March 5 to 20 this year. It is a special and meaningful period during the year. This solar term means the temperature and rainfall rise. It’s the third solar term in a year. Its name means animals sleeping in winter wake up and everything comes alive. The world seems to be filled with new energy during this time.
In the past, people thought thunder woke the insects. But modern research shows it’s the warmer temperature and more wet soil that really wakes up the insects. This discovery helps us better understand the natural phenomenon (现象).
Jingzhe is very important for farmers. It’s seen as the start of the busiest farming time. Old sayings like “once Jingzhe comes, spring plowing (春耕) never rests” show its importance. During this time, most parts of China experience a rapid increase in temperatures and there’s more sunshine, which is good for farming. Farmers are busy preparing the land with great enthusiasm.
Eating pears during Jingzhe is a common custom in China. One reason is that the Chinese word for “pear” sounds the same as the character meaning “to leave”. So eating pears shows people's wish to drive pests away for a good harvest. Also, in traditional Chinese medicine, pears are sweet, juicy and cold. They’re good for the lungs and can prevent or ease (缓解) coughs when the weather gets warmer and drier. This is particularly beneficial when people feel thirsty and have dry tongues because of the changing climate. People enjoy this healthy and traditional practice.
32.Why is Jingzhe a special and meaningful period during the year
A.It is the third solar term in a year.
B.The temperature and rainfall rise.
C.It is the time when animals store their energy.
D.It is the time when everything becomes alive.
33.What is the main purpose of Paragraph 3
A.To illustrate the great efforts that farmers make in farming.
B.To present the important role that Jingzhe plays in farming.
C.To introduce different types of farming in modern agriculture.
D.To show the difficulties of farming the farmers meet during this period.
34.What can be learnt from the last paragraph
A.Eating pears can prevent people from getting sick.
B.Pear has the same meaning as the Chinese character “to leave”.
C.Chinese common customs are based on traditional Chinese medicine.
D.Chinese people enjoy some common practices with changes to solar terms.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Jingzhe — A Particular Chinese Solar Term
B.Jingzhe — A Magic Power of Awakening Insects
C.Pears — Traditional Chinese Medicine for Coughs
D.Spring Plowing — A Traditional Farming Practice

M: It’s not as cheap as I thought. I’ll be sharing it with a friend. He prefer a place without too much noise.
W: There’s one just right for you. Anything else
M: Oh, I need a place with free parking. Could you tell me something about the apartment
W: The living room is nice and bright. The bedrooms and the kitchen are large. The problem is that the car parking lots are limited.
M: Okay, but I will have to have a discussion with my friend first. And we will come together next week.
W: Fine, keep in touch.

【原文】A good trip always requires proper planning. Today, I’m going to share with you about some places you must visit during your first trip to New York City. On the first day, if you want to see the best view of the city, I recommend Top of the Rock. The ticket starts at $40. You could also go to a rooftop bar to enjoy some drinks. If you’re a night owl, I recommend going to Times Square before midnight. There you could see the world’s largest digital art display. On the second day, we’re going to Central Park. It’s world - famous, so you can’t miss it. You can go fishing and visit the Conservatory Garden. At Sheep Meadow, we are able to have a picnic. On the last day, walking around Greenwich Village and West Village in Manhattan is a requirement. Try some coffee at Porto Rico Importing Co. Washington Square Park is also a good place to relax and enjoy live music. If you like books, Three Lives & Company is a good choice. That’s all about our trip.

The world seems to be filled with new energy during this time.(今年惊蛰是从3月5日到20日。

Farmers are busy preparing the land with great enthusiasm.(惊蛰对农民来说非常重要。
根据最后一段“Eating pears during Jingzhe is a common custom in China. One reason is that the Chinese word for ‘pear’ sounds the same as the character meaning ‘to leave’. People enjoy this healthy and traditional practice.(惊蛰吃梨是中国的一种常见习俗。
