After defeating Feng Xiaocan in a Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) tournament in November,
China’s mixed martial arts (MMA, 综合格斗 ) fighter Shi Ming became more famous for not just her
athletic performance, but also her identity as a traditional Chinese medicine doctor.
Her journey into the world of martial arts began at college when she joined her university’s martial
arts team, focusing on Sanda, a Chinese sport that combines kickboxing and wrestling (摔跤) techniques.
With natural talent and hard work, she quickly succeeded in local competitions. But her introduction to
MMA in 2017 marked a turning point. Under the guidance of US wrestling coach Bagher Amanolahi, Shi
immersed herself in mastering MMA’s various techniques. Her efforts soon paid off as she moved from
local competitions to the global stage.
While her rise in MMA has been impressive, what makes her unique is her ability to balance two
demanding careers. Born in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province in 1994, Shi followed in her
grandparents’ footsteps into traditional Chinese medicine. Her days often start with early-morning hospital
shifts, followed by concentrated evening training. Shi believes her two roles go well together. She said, “In
martial arts, you learn to respect your competitors and understand their motivations (动机). In medicine,

you treat patients with the same respect and curiosity.”
Over time, Shi promoted her MMA skills and earned a spot in the UFC, the world’s most important
MMA organization. This was motivated by her ambition (抱负) of becoming a fighter like Zhang Weili, the
first Chinese UFC world champion.
Now, her journey of martial arts continues. “I have a great wrestling coach, a strong training team, and
I apply myself to my medical and fighting careers,” she said. “I believe I will continue to pass each test that
comes my way.”
24. What do we know about Shi Ming’s career

B. She has a great wrestling coach and training team.
C. She dreams of being the first Chinese UFC world champion.
D. She wants to join the world’s most important MMA organization.
27. Which word best describes Shi

If you lack time to exercise during the working week, don’t worry. A study of nearly 90,000
participants in the UK suggests that putting all your weekly exercise on weekends still has significant
health benefits compared with being inactive. In this study, participants who cram all their recommended
weekly physical activity into one or two days are referred to as “weekend warriors”.
The researchers collected data from 89,573 volunteers by requiring them to wear a wrist device (手腕
设备) to track their weekly physical activity. These participants were then divided into three groups based
on their exercise patterns (模式 ): regular exercisers, who spread their exercise throughout the week;
weekend warriors, who did most of their exercise in one day or two; and inactive participants. After
grouping the participants, the researchers compared their health records to examine the related health
benefits.
The study found that, compared with those who were inactive, weekend warriors and regular
exercisers experienced similar health benefits, with both groups having a lower risk of developing more
than 200 diseases. Specifically, the strongest effects were for cardiometabolic diseases. Both groups had a
20% lower risk of high blood pressure and a 40% lower risk of diabetes.
Dr. Shaan Khurshid, a cardiologist at Massachusetts general hospital in Boston, who led the study, said,
“It shows that, for health benefits, it’s really the amount of physical activity rather than its frequency that
matters. The key is, however you are going to get that amount, do it in the way that works for you.”
Khurshid also mentioned the need for more research to explore whether the “weekend warrior”

workout pattern could help people reach their activity goals more easily. “It might be more convenient for
some people and help them follow public health advice better,” he said.
28. What does the underlined word “cram” in paragraph 1 probably mean
A. Pack. B. Break. C. Divide. D. Turn.
29. How did the researchers test the health benefits in the three groups
A. By checking their physical health. B. By comparing their health records.
C. By reviewing their exercise records. D. By examining their workout patterns.
30. According to Dr. Khurshid, what is more important for health benefits
A. How often you exercise each week. B. How long you exercise each time.
C. How much exercise you do each week. D. How much effort you put into exercise.
31. What can we infer about the “weekend warrior” workout pattern
A. It follows public health advice.
B. It might suit people with busy schedules.
C. It could help people reach their workout goals.
D. It will soon be promoted as the best exercise plan.

The US government is beginning to hand out billions of dollars into infrastructure (基础设施 )
spending to better the US water system, much of which will go to improving storm water systems. But
some scientists and city planners are pushing to fund projects that are better adapted to the changing
climate. Instead of just gray infrastructure, supporters say the answer is green.
Green infrastructure, whether large rain gardens or plants along streets, has the same purpose as big
storm pipes: to manage large amounts of water that can build up during heavy rains. That is, when rain
storms hit, the water soaks into the rain gardens, which prevents that water from rushing to the streets and
sidewalks, thus greatly reducing the pressure on the storm water system. Green infrastructure can also help
when it’s not raining. Summer heat waves are often more dangerous in cities, because concrete (水泥) takes
in heat in line with what’s known as the “urban heat island” effect. Plants and parks can provide much
needed cooling.
Then why isn’t there more green infrastructure While both gray and green infrastructure require
upfront funding, green infrastructure also requires ongoing costs to repairing it regularly, which can turn
out to be a big block to doing it. In addition, the most cost-effective time to build green infrastructure
projects is when cities are already doing roadwork. But because the projects are often managed by different
departments, working together effectively sometimes seems impossible. Also, some state governments put
the need to repair and upgrade gray infrastructure first rather than starting green projects in many
communities.
According to Marccus Hendricks, assistant professor of city studies and planning at the University of
Maryland, although highlighting the significance of green infrastructure is of great importance, it has been
a stepchild of the types of systems people pay attention to.
32. Why does the author mention gray infrastructure in paragraph 1
A. To present a fact. B. To attract the readers.
C. To explain an issue. D. To introduce the topic.
33. What is green infrastructure aimed at
高一英语学科 试题 第 5页(共 8 页)
A. Raising funds for infrastructure. B. Beautifying the city appearances.
C. Replacing the function of storm pipes. D. Easing the stress of the storm water system.
34. What is the current situation of green infrastructure according to Hendricks
A. It is the primary focus of city planning.
B. It has received much funding to get it upgraded.
C. It hasn’t received enough attention from the officials.
D. It is considered less cost-effective than gray infrastructure.
35. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A. Green Infrastructure: A Long Way to Go B. Gray Infrastructure: Time to Knock Out
C. Green Infrastructure: Prepared to Set Off D. Gray Infrastructure: A Necessity in Cities

How to express hurt feelings
Expressing hurt feelings can be challenging, especially for teenagers. 36 Luckily, there are
some simple techniques on how to effectively express your hurt feelings.
37 Before you approach someone to tell them that they’ve hurt your feelings, identify exactly
why you feel hurt. It’s important to give a specific reason for your hurt feelings so that you can express this
to the person who hurt you. If you’re unsure about why you feel hurt, review what happened in your mind
or write about it.
Take a few deep breaths and try to relax. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your emotions, take a few
deep breaths in and out before speaking with the persons. 38 You may also find it hard to
communicate what you’re feeling if you are overcome with emotions. If taking deep breaths doesn’t seem
to help, try taking a brisk walk or doing push-ups. This will help to release endorphins (内啡肽) and clear
your head.
Use “I” statements to communicate what you’re feeling. 39 Instead, express your feelings by
using “I” rather than “you”. Explain the issue in an objective way. This will be less likely to put the person
on the defensive. For example, you might say, “I felt hurt that I didn’t get a call to tell me you couldn’t
make it yesterday.”
Listen carefully to the other person’s response. After you’ve expressed your hurt feelings, give the
other person a chance to respond. Listen to what they have to say with your full attention. They might not
have realized they hurt you, or they may have a different view on the situation. 40 a
A. Be specific in your description.
B. Think about what you’re feeling and why.
C. Avoid blaming the person for how you feel.
D. You can express your feelings in a more reasonable way.
E. Having an open dialogue can lead to a better understanding and resolution.
F. However, it’s important to communicate to maintain your emotional well-being.
G. Talking to them when you’re feeling angry, stressed, or tearful can make matters worse.

第二节(满分 25分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
The idea of becoming a writer had come to me off and on since my childhood. Actually, it wasn’t until
my third year in high school that I made up my mind to become a writer.
Before that, I’d been bored with everything associated with English courses. I hated it when the task
turned out long, lifeless paragraphs that were painful for teachers to read and for me to write. So when I
learned Mr. Smith would teach us for third-year English, I saw another boring year. It was said that Mr.
Smith was dull and unable to inspire students. Luckily, it was not the case.
Before Mr. Smith taught us, I had guessed that I would have to bear a fruitless year with him. At the
beginning it appeared to be so. But a month later, we needed to write an informal article. Mr. Smith handed
out a homework sheet, offering us a choice for various topics. I took the sheet home and did nothing until
one day before the deadline. Lying on the sofa, I finally faced up to the unwelcome task, took the sheet out
of my notebook, and scanned it. The topic which caught my eye was “The Art of Eating Spaghetti”.
This title produced a special series of mental images. Vivid and sweet memories came flooding back
to a night when all of us were seated around the supper table. On the table was spaghetti (意大利面条),
which was known to most of us back then. Immediately the good humor of spaghetti woke up in my mind
as I recalled how we tried and argued over socially respectable methods for moving spaghetti from the plate
to our mouth.
Suddenly I wanted to write about that, about the warmth and good feelings of it, but I wanted to put it
down simply for my own joy, not for Mr. Smith. Maybe Mr. Smith would be annoyed, but it felt so good to
write for myself! The next morning I turned in my essay, a bit worried and a bit eager.
注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为 100左右;2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Two days later in class, Mr. Smith returned everyone’s graded paper except mine.________________

Two days later in class, Mr. Smith returned everyone’s graded paper except mine. Anxious and

mine! The Art of Eating Spaghetti! He read in high spirits, his voice, his hand and his mouth all joining in.
All the good humor of eating spaghetti woke in the class. My classmates laughed themselves under the
desk. So did I myself. “You are so humorous. You promise to be a good writer!” Mr. Smith beamed. He did
