The view from the top was breathtaking. It was 2023 and I had just climbed the Hvannadals Peak in Iceland, almost seven years after becoming paralyzed from the chest down after a climbing fall. My two teammates and I were on our way to becoming the first all-disabled team to cross Europe's largest ice cap, the mighty Vatnaj kull glacier, unsupported and unassisted.
A year before, when Niall McCann first suggested making the 100–mile trip, I was excited by the prospect of returning to this lost world of crevasses(冰裂缝), mountains and ice, but upset and anxious about whether I'd struggle. Back then, I still would have given anything for my legs to work and to be able to walk again. But I was eager for adventure and signed on to do the trip with McCann, who had broken his back when paragliding, and EdJackson, a former professional rugby player who had broken his neck in 2017.
This was going to be the toughest challenge of my life. And yet, with each drive of my poles into the snow, I pushed myself further from civilization—and closer to the man I'd once been.
My mind drifted to the last time I was on a mountain before my accident, climbing Monte Rosa in the Italian Alps and feeling the addictive mixture of excitement and trepidation. Those same emotions returned as we battled through powerful storms and hidden crevasses before we reached the ice cap's highest point.
I was at the top when I was hit by an unexpected wave of emotion. I realized that, despite all that I had been through—all the challenges and setbacks I had faced—if someone asked me if I wanted my legs back, I would have said no. That moment affected every aspect of my life and the way I perceived my disability. No longer did I consider myself disabled or injured, because, if I could reach the summit of a remote ice cap, I could overcome the frustrations and setbacks of day-to-day life with resilience and persistence. Yes, I do still have a life-changing injury—but, for me, it's been for the better.
4.What can you know about the team
A.It got assistance from an organization.
B.Its members all had a form of disability.
C.It followed the steps of a similar previous team.
D.It consisted of people paralyzed down the chest.
5.What might have really caused the writer to hesitate about the trip
A.His paralyzed legs. B.Fear of potential danger.
C.The lost world of ice. D.Lack of proper equipment.
6.What's does the underlined word "trepidation" in paragraph 4 probably mean
A.Fear. B.Bravery.
C.Happiness. D.Disappointment.
7.What did the writer think of his injury after he made it to the top
A.It left him nothing but all setbacks.
B.It caused his unexpected bad emotion.
C.He wouldn't know his potential otherwise.
D.He was tortured by the frustrations it caused.

Think back to the last time you wrote a quick note or made a grocery list. Chances are that it wasn't with pen and paper. Over the past decade, keyboards and screens have quietly taken the place of handwriting in our daily routines, from classrooms to office meetings. Some schools around the world have even stopped teaching handwriting altogether. Yet, research shows that putting pen to paper offers cognitive benefits that digital tools can't replicate (复制).
"Statistically most studies on the relationship between handwriting and memory show that people are better at remembering things that they have written down, manually than on a computer," says Naomi Susan Baron, former professor of linguistics at American University.
The perks of writing by hand can partly be attributed to the engagement of multiple senses in the writing process. "Holding a pen with our fingers, pressing it on a surface, and moving our hands to create letters and words is a complex cognitive-motor skill that requires a lot of our attention," says Mellissa Prunty at Brunel University London who has researched the relationship between handwriting and learning.
Adults also benefit from the labor-intensive nature of handwriting. A study involving 42 adults learning Arabic found that participants who learned letters by writing them down by hand were quicker to recognize them, had an easier time naming them, and were better at sounding the newly learned letters out compared with people who were asked to learn the new characters by typing or by just looking at them.
Through surveys with 205 young adults, Baron found that many students report more focus, steadier concentration, and better memory when producing a text by holding a writing instrument rather than pressing keys on a keyboard, suggesting that our sense of touch plays a vital role in the way we absorb information.
8.What is Baron's opinion about handwriting
A.It helps to memorize things.
B.It is easier and more efficient.
C.It helps improve artistic skills.
D.It should give way to typing.
9. What does the underlined word "perks" in paragraph 3 mean
A.Challenges. B.Changes. C.Shortcomings. D.Advantages.
10. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs
A.Handwriting is as important as digital tools in learning.
B.Typing enhances learning more than handwriting.
C.Handwriting contributes more to cognitive ability.
D.Adults struggle more with handwriting when learning.
11.What does the text mainly talk about
A.How typing affects our studying skills.
B.Why handwriting still matters in the digital age.
C.The decline of handwriting in modern education.
D.The comparison of multiple learning strategies.
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
The Neurosurgical Simulation (神经外科模拟) and Artificial Intelligence Learning Centre hired 70 medical students to perform virtual brain tumor removals.
Researchers randomly assigned students to receive instruction and feedback by either an AI tutor or a remote expert instructor, with a third control group receiving no instruction. An AI-powered tutor called the Virtual Operative Assistant (VOA) used a machine learning algorithm to teach safe and efficient surgical technique and provided personalized feedback, while a deep learning system and a team of experts assessed student performance. In the other group, remote instructors watched a live feed of the surgical simulations and provided feedback based on the student's performance.
The researchers found that students who received VOA instruction and feedback learned surgical skills 2.6 times faster and achieved 36% better performance compared to those who received instruction and feedback from remote instructors. Surgical skill plays an important role in patient outcomes both during and after brain surgery. VOA may be an effective way to increase neurosurgeon performance, improving patient safety while reducing the burden on human instructors. "Artificially intelligent tutors like the VOA may become a valuable tool in the training of the next generation of neurosurgeons," says Rolando Del Maestro, senior author of the study in JAMA Network Open. "The VOA significantly improved expertise while fostering an excellent learning environment. Ongoing studies are assessing how in-person instructors and AI-powered intelligent tutors can most effectively be used together to improve the mastery of neurosurgical skills."
"Intelligent tutoring systems can use a variety of simulation platforms to provide almost unlimited chances for repetitive practice without the constraints imposed by the availability of supervision," says Ali Fazlollahi, the study's first author. "With continued research, increased development, and dissemination (宣传) of intelligent tutoring systems, we can be better prepared for ever-evolving future challenges."
12.What can we learn about VOA
A.It is a kind of Al-powered tutor.
B.It will gradually replace in-person instructors.
C.It definitely improves patients' safety and reduces their burden.
D.It has successfully helped students remove patients' brain tumor.
13.What's the author's attitude towards VOA
A.Critical. B.Ambiguous. C.Supportive. D.Indifferent.
14.What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A.Ali Fazlollahi is the only author of the study.
B.Traditional tutoring systems need fewer observations.
C.Intelligent tutoring systems have largely been used in medical education.
D.Intelligent tutoring systems still need more time to develop and broadcast.
15.What's the best title for the text
A.AI Helps Medical Education
B.AI Develops Well in Medicine
C.AI Replaces Human Instructors
D.A New Study Improves People's Life

I was a volunteer for an organization at the beginning of this year. The organization is aimed at helping children who suffer from cancer. One day, we were asked to raise money for cancer research and programme funding at an event.
Since my friend Lisa was also a volunteer for the organization, I went to the event with her. There were many people at the event. After seeing our poster, some people came to us and talked with us. But few people donated money. It was a bit hot that day. Both Lisa and I got really upset.
Half an hour later, Lisa started complaining, "I don't think we can raise much money today. "
"Don't worry. The event lasts for three hours. There is still a lot of time left," I said, though I also thought poorly of our plan to raise much money that day.
While Lisa and I were talking, a little boy of about eight years old came to us. He stood in front of our poster and started reading.
After a while, he asked, "What is cancer?"
I explained what cancer is. Then I said, "Many people around the world are suffering from cancer. It can be really dangerous. More research is needed to learn about it so that people with it can suffer less. That's why we're collecting money for it. "
"Do children suffer from cancer, too?" asked the boy.
"Yes. Many children suffer from cancer. Some of them may die. They need help. " Lisa said and I nodded.
Hearing that, the boy became sad. Then the boy asked, "How much money have you collected?"
Both Lisa and I were embarrassed to tell him that we didn't raise much money. At last, we said, "Not much. "
The boy looked into our donation container and only saw a few one dollar and five dollar bills. The boy said nothing after seeing that and left. Then some girls came to us and we started talking with them. Neither Lisa nor I thought the boy would return. However, about twenty minutes later, the boy did return.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
