The local store offered a discount on the necessary supplies, and nearby people provided food and shelter for the Andersons during the rebuilding process. As an important part of our everyday lives, music is increasingly being used in medical treatment. Besides proving very useful in cancer treatment, managing long-term pain and even helping the brain recover after a stroke, researchers have been making great progress in using music to help patients with dementia (失智症). It reduces patients’ anxiety or stress, lifts their spirits, and improves their performance at work.
So why does music appear to have such a powerful effect on people with dementia About ten years ago, researchers discovered that when people listened to music, many areas of the brain took part in processing it. Research has also shown music might help the brain and its connections grow strong again. It is believed that music could help people with dementia by fixing or strengthening damaged neural (神经的) connections and cells.
It’s not just any music that has a great effect on the brain, though. Familiar and favourite music has been shown to have the biggest influence on the way we feel, and is closely connected with memory and emotions. This is because listening to our favourite songs helps to produce feel-good hormones (荷尔蒙) that give us a sense of pleasure. During and after listening to favourite music, people with dementia experienced less pain and anxiety, and their general feelings improved.
Other researchers have even begun testing the effects of music training programs to support cognition (认知) for people with dementia. Results have been promising so far, with adults in the study showing improved conditions, compared to those who took part in just physical exercise.
So, music is likely to continue to be a useful medical treatment for people with dementia. But based on what we know so far, it’s important that it comes from the patient’s own music collection and is used together with other medical treatments such as taking medicine.

By looking closely at the dirt and rock samples, scientists are hoping to find the basic pieces that make up life, which could give us clues about whether Mars was ever a good place for life to develop.

【答案】 Encouraged by his words, I began to change my attitude towards English learning. I started to focus more attentively on English classes, following Mr. Frank’s instructions with great care. I discovered the charm of how individual letters could form meaningful words. Although the progress was slow, that slight improvement still brought me some hope. Mr. Frank was always ready to offer me guidance whenever necessary. Gradually, I developed a deep admiration for English. I became more active in speaking up and communicating with my classmates. This new-found enthusiasm made me more outgoing and open-minded, and I even made some new friends.
“Why don’t you draw a poster for the English drama show ” Mr. Frank said to me. Excited and nervous, I accepted. It was a good chance to contribute with my artistic skills. Over the next few days, I drew colorful posters combining text and pictures. The process helped me remember vocabulary and grammar points better. As an important part of our everyday lives, music is increasingly being used in medical treatment. Besides proving very useful in cancer treatment, managing long-term pain and even helping the brain recover after a stroke, researchers have been making great progress in using music to help patients with dementia (失智症). It reduces patients’ anxiety or stress, lifts their spirits, and improves their performance at work.
So why does music appear to have such a powerful effect on people with dementia About ten years ago, researchers discovered that when people listened to music, many areas of the brain took part in processing it. Research has also shown music might help the brain and its connections grow strong again. It is believed that music could help people with dementia by fixing or strengthening damaged neural (神经的) connections and cells.
It’s not just any music that has a great effect on the brain, though. Familiar and favourite music has been shown to have the biggest influence on the way we feel, and is closely connected with memory and emotions. This is because listening to our favourite songs helps to produce feel-good hormones (荷尔蒙) that give us a sense of pleasure. During and after listening to favourite music, people with dementia experienced less pain and anxiety, and their general feelings improved.
