“to+动词原形”被称为动词不定式,常写作to do (有时to可以省略),否定形式为not to do。
该形式在句中除了不能作谓语外,可作其他成分,没有人称和数的变化。
作宾语
作宾语: 主语+谓语动词+ to do不定式,常出现在一些及物动词后,构成动词短语,如: want/plan/agree/learn/volunteer to do 等
动词不定式的用法
e.g. When children first learn to walk, they often fall down.
1More than 10 teachers volunteer to teach in poor areas in our school.
我们学校超过10名老师自愿到贫困地区支教。
当小孩刚开始学习走路时,他们经常摔倒。
作宾语补足语
作宾语补足语: 谓语动词+名词/代词+to do,动词不定式用来补充说明宾语的情况。有些动词要求动词不定式必须带to,有些要求不带too。
1) 有些动词如 ask, teach, tell, advise, invite 等后必须接带to的动词不定式作宾语补足语。
e.g. Miss Li asked us to write down our own ideal career.
Our guide told us to follow the local customs while traveling.
旅行时,我们的导游告诉我们要遵循当地的风俗习惯。
李老师让我们写下我们自己的理想职业。
2)感官动词(hear, see,watch等)和使役动词(make,let等)后接不带to的动词不定式作宾语补足语。
e.g. My parents sometimes make me do some housework.
我父母有时让我做些家务活。
I saw Linda read in the library yesterday.
我昨天看到琳达在图书馆看书。
3) help后面的动词不定式可加to,也可不加to
—Could you help me (to) do some cleaning
—No problem.
—你能帮我打扫卫生吗
—没问题。
作目的状语
e.g. Linda always sends gifts to kids in hospital to cheer them up.
琳达总是给住院的孩子们送礼物,让他们高兴起来。
To improve my English, I will try to seek help from my teacher.
为了提高我的英语水平,我会试着向老师寻求帮助。
My mother will point out my mistakes to help me improve.
我妈妈会指出我的错误来帮助我进步。
作目的状语:动词不定式可表示某一动作或状态的目的,位于句首或句尾。

can和could表达建议、请求和命令。
can和could常用来提议为某人做某事或请求别人做某事。在语气上,could没有can那么肯定,could听起来更加迟疑,使提议或请求听起来更加客气。常用于陈述句和疑问句。
1) 提议
e.g. We could write a letter to the director.
