It was a cold winter with thick snow on the ground. Everything was frozen solid. As we hadn’t heating equipment in our classroom, most of us wore thick and warm clothes. Then, by chance I discovered under Henry’s dirty woolen coat, there was just a short-sleeved shirt.
It was so strange that I couldn’t help wondering whether Henry was crazy to make such a choice. I told this to the boys in my class. “How stupid!” We all ran to see Henry and jokingly pulled off his coat. Henry stepped back, shaking with both cold and anger. I found that tears welled into his eyes.
When I went back home, I told Mom about “the stupid choice” Henry had made. Mom fell silent. Then she made a phone call. The next day, she told me to bring a package to the school. “Give it to Henry. Tell him to put on the clothes in it.”
“Why ” As a fourth-grader, I wasn’t wise enough to see something hidden behind. It was years later that I understood that Henry’s family only had basic necessities, and there was little money for something else beyond food and shelter. Mom hugged me and said softly, “Guess why a hungry person doesn’t eat ” “Because he can’t get any food to eat,” I answered loudly. “Exactly,” Mom said. “So, why doesn’t Henry wear a thick and warm sweater ” I was aware of the meaning of my mother’s words.
It made me feel guilty. Mom said it was unkind to make fun of disadvantaged people. And Mom also told me to “see” through my heart, but not just through my eyes. I wondered “How ”
At the end of the term, the teacher told us we were going to take a class picture as, for some reason, we would break up when we stepped into the fifth grade. Twenty-two students lined up in three rows and faced the camera with happy smiles. The teacher told us anyone who paid a dollar would bring a class picture back home. I could hardly wait to get my first class picture.

写作示范一
The photo was so cheap that I thought everyone could afford it. As the teacher started collecting the money, I noticed Henry sitting quietly, his hands fidgeting nervously. His eyes darted around, avoiding the sight of others handing over their dollars. I remembered Mom's words about being kind to those less fortunate. Without hesitation, I walked over to him and whispered, “Don't worry, I'll pay for you.” Henry looked up at me, his eyes wide with surprise and gratitude. He stammered a “thank you” as I placed two dollars in the teacher's hand.
I wondered how Henry would react when he received the photo. When the photos were distributed, Henry's face lit up like a Christmas tree. He held the photo tightly, his eyes scanning every detail. Then, he came up to me, a big smile on his face. “This means so much to me. Thank you,” he said sincerely. Looking at his happy face, I felt a warm glow in my heart. I realized that a small act of kindness could bring such joy, and I was glad I had learned to see beyond appearances.

The photo was so cheap that I thought everyone could afford it. As the teacher made the rounds, collecting the dollar bills, I saw Henry's face turn red. He rummaged through his pockets, his hands shaking slightly. I knew he didn't have the money. Remembering the lesson Mom taught me, I felt a tug at my heart. I quickly took out two dollars and went to Henry. “Here, let's get you a photo too,” I said, trying to sound casual. Henry looked at me, a mix of relief and surprise in his eyes. “Are you sure ” he asked. I nodded, and we both handed our money to the teacher.
I wondered how Henry would react when he received the photo. When the photos arrived, Henry opened his with such care. His eyes sparkled as he looked at the picture of our class. He walked over to me, his steps a bit lighter. “This is the best thing that's happened to me in a long time,” he said, his voice filled with emotion. I smiled, feeling a sense of fulfillment. This simple act had not only made Henry happy but also taught me the value of kindness and understanding.
