The verbal conflict with my next-door neighbour, Pat, let me shocked. We had stayed a normal relationship as neighbours since the day we moved in, but his accusation that summer morning was too much, especially when my family had tried our best not to bother him.
I didn’t remember when he stopped being friendly. I could not understand it. He avoided every conversation with us and even walked away when I approached! On that particular morning, I had been gardening out when I saw Pat throw a large doggy waste from his garden onto ours. I was so upset, and I walked right over and faced up to him. “Why would you do that ”
Folding his arms defensively, he claimed that our dog was the culprit (犯人). “I saw him do it,” Pat said. This so-called neighbour was lying to my face! I tried to remain calm. “There is no way our dog did that.” Pat didn’t back down. “Keep your dog off my yard,” he told me. My upset turned to anger and I let loose. “Pat, you are a real piece of work!” I stormed in my front door and called my husband, Kevin, at work. I told him that Pat should accuse our dog of making trouble in his yard. Our dog was a Chihuahua, too little to brave himself out of our house. His advice: stay away from Pat. So I did. Pat returned the favour. If I saw him while we were both out walking, he’d cross to the opposite side of the street. When I drove past his house, he’d turn his back to my car.
One morning, I glanced out upstairs and found Pat was already carefully tending his beautiful grapes. I had a mixed feeling. On one hand, I couldn’t believe a man with so much care for a plant should be such an impolite person; on the other hand, I still couldn’t understand why Pat treated us in such a manner.

写作示范一
“Bad dog! How dare you come again to destroy my yard!”. I heard Pat's angry shout from his garden. My heart sank, thinking our dog must have caused trouble again. I rushed out immediately. But to my surprise, I saw a big, unfamiliar dog digging around in Pat's yard. Pat's face turned red with embarrassment when he realized his mistake. He stammered, “I... I'm so sorry. I was wrong.” I just stood there, still a bit shocked. His apology took me by surprise.
I heard the door knock and found it was Pat, with a handful of grapes. “I really am sorry for everything,” he said, looking down. “These are from my garden. I hope you can forgive me.” I was touched by his sincerity. I took the grapes and smiled at him. “It's okay. Let's forget about it.” We chatted for a while, and the awkwardness between us disappeared. From then on, we became good neighbors again.
写作示范二
“Bad dog! How dare you come again to destroy my yard!”. Pat's furious voice reached my ears as I was inside. I panicked, fearing our dog had indeed misbehaved. I dashed out, only to see a strange dog in Pat's garden. Pat's eyes widened in realization. “Oh no, I was wrong,” he murmured. I could see the guilt in his eyes. We stood there, neither of us knowing what to say for a moment.
I heard the door knock and opened it to find Pat, holding a basket of grapes. “I'm truly sorry for all the trouble I caused,” he said, his voice full of regret. “These are the best grapes from my garden. Please accept my apology.” I was moved. I took the basket and said, “Don't worry about it. Let's start over.” We both laughed, and the tension between us melted away. Since then, our relationship has been better than ever.
参考答案
“Bad dog! How dare you come again to destroy my yard!”. I couldn’t help but feel curious when I heard Pat’s voice, making me glance out of the window once again. There, I spotted Pat attempting to drive a large, black dog out of his garden. Seeing this, I quickly went downstairs, grabbed some snacks for my own dog and used the treats to attract the dog away from his territory, “Thank you,” Pat said to me, a hint of embarrassment in his voice. I merely waved it off, and went back home.
I heard the door knock and found it was Pat, with a handful of grapes. I was surprised to see Pat standing there. “Thank you, and I’m truly sorry,” Pat said as he handed me a bunch of grapes. I dismissed it as a minor incident, assuring him that it was perfectly alright. Pat responded with an uneasy smile and then clarified that he had mistakenly assumed the black dog belonged to me, which was why it had always caused damage in his garden. This misunderstanding had led to his previous unkind behavior towards us. Suddenly, all my previous confusion lifted. I accepted the grapes from Pat and said, “Let bygones be bygones. We can now cherish our time as neighbors.”
