Major Snow, the 21st solar term (节气) of the year, falls on Dec 7 this year. It means the beginning of midwinter. During Major Snow, the temperature drops greatly and there may be more snow days.
The arrival of snow adds a delightful touch to the cold days. The snow in North China may go on a whole day, breaking tree branches and blocking the road while snow doesn’t happen a lot, but just a little, great fun in the South.
The natural scenery is “ ice blockading for hundred smiles and snow flying through thousands miles”, “From hill to hill no bird in flight; From path to path no man in sight”. In the South, the snowflakes fly around and the world turns white.
There’s a Chinese saying: “A fall of snow gives promise of a fruitful year.” Most farmers welcome snow because snow can protect crops from cold fronts and keep the fields warm. Even if it melts (融化), it also can provide enough water for the crops in the spring.
Snow season is also good for skiing and skating. In northern China, there are many places for natural snow and ice. For example, Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces often already have big snow in November. People can also go to the frozen lakes to play ice sports. But people in the south will stay indoors to enjoy the winter activities. People in Chongqing like to have potted lamb soup or stewed lamb soup with their families and friends. People in Nanjing like to stew the lamb with yams or wolf-berries to make it more delicious.

Nobody likes making mistakes. But, no one is perfect. If you can learn from mistakes, they can move you forward. 1
If you have made mistakes that harm other people, it is important to offer a sincere apology (道歉) in person. 2 If you refuse to apologize, the person hurt by you will hold it against you.
If you go through life afraid to make a mistake, you will spend most of your life doing nothing. People usually make mistakes. 3 The more duties you take, the more likely you will make mistakes.
Unluckily, it is our natural instinct (本能) to justify (为……辩解) our actions. When you make a mistake, you will first blame (责备) someone else. When mistakes are made, the boss is unlikely to be interested in your words. Sometimes it is best to say, very simply-yes, I made a mistake.
Mistakes happen for different reasons. 4 If you make mistakes because you are tired, try to get more sleep; if you are stressed, look at ways to relax and keep away from the stress of work.
You should avoid feeling guilty about making mistakes. 5 If you repeat the same mistakes, it shows you aren’t making progress and they cause repeating trouble. Often mistakes are caused by bad habits. To avoid making the same mistakes, you need to break these bad habits. The sooner, the better.
A. There is no harm in making mistakes, and it is a necessary part of going forward.
B. But at the same time, you should make a decision to learn from them.
C. A good apology will likely make the other person understand you.
D. Therefore, you should find out how you can learn from them.
E. You may have made a mistake by saying some unkind words.
F. To avoid repeating them, you need to find the main reason.

The playground is one of the most important places for middle school students, second only to(仅次于) classrooms and dorms(宿舍). Chen Li is a football lover and he started practicing it at six. He likes to spend his out-of-school time playing football, but the 14-year-old doesn’t like to play with those who don’t follow playground manners.
Playground manners are the ways you should act on the playground. For example, you should always follow sports rules and avoid hurting others.
However, some middle school students are quite aggressive (好斗的). They care more about winning than improving their skills or making friends with others.
Chen doesn’t understand why some students play in a rude style. “In order to win, they push and pull me with all their energy. It seems that they are not defending (防守) against me, but trying to kill me,” Chen said. “We should be polite to each other on the playground. This is what we need to care about most.”
Chen is right. For middle school sports lovers, playground manners are about more than just good behavior (行为). There is only one winner in most sports games. Sometimes you may be a loser. But it doesn’t matter. Smile at your opponents (对手)! What’s really important is the lesson you have learned from the game and your opponents.
Believe it or not, the playground is also a classroom where we can learn as much as in the real classroom.
