Thank you, Mr. Smith, for your kind introduction. It was very nice of you to speak of me like that. While I was listening, I had trouble believing that I was the man you were talking about.
My thanks go out to all of you for being here at this dinner. I look around and say to myself, "These people are my friends. "And you know how good it is to be among friends.
Seven years ago, I became the tennis coach at this school. I can remember arriving here as if it were yesterday. When I started coaching, we only had as mall team then, just three boys and two girls, and only one tennis court. So my first job was to increase the team. ▲ . And it seems like the team keeps getting stronger every year.
I've been lucky to have some really good players to coach. Coaches love good players. Some great players from our school over the past years include Herbert Bradbury, Christopher Stanton and Emma Austen, all champions during the years they played.
Among the players on our team now is Arthur Burney, perhaps the best of them all. I'm sure you all join with me in wishing him good luck as he leaves for Cape Town next week. Good luck, Ace!
The time has come for me, however, to make a change. Recent health problems have made it difficult for me to continue coaching.
I must say, I'm looking forward to my retirement with mixed feelings. I'm certainly ready for a long rest, but I'm a bit worried about what I'll do with all my spare time. You might find me coming down to watch the games from time to time. If you can still remember me, you might say hello.
Thank you everyone. I'll miss you all.

5.阅读理解
Hello, everyone. I'm very proud that I have been chosen to speak to you all today. I'm a bit nervous as I've never made a speech before to so many people, so please forgive me if it shows!
As we all know, this is the school leavers' party and it's time to say goodbye to everyone. We' re sorry to leave you at the end of our junior high school education and we promise that we'll never forget the happy times we have spent in these buildings with you all.
I'd like to thank three groups of people for the three things I've learnt while I am a pupil at our school. The three things are friendship, love and knowledge.
The first group is my friends and what I've learnt is the importance of friendship. We've worked hard together and we've even shared some difficult times together but we've also had a lot of fun. Many of us will go to new schools and we may not see each other so often in the future. Others will go on to senior high school and continue their close friendships. But friends don't have to see each other all the time. Sometimes the friends you treasure most are the friends you see less often. A life without old friends is like a day without sunshine. We'll always stay in touch.
The second group is our parents and grandparents. We thank you for the love you have shown to us during our years at junior high school, for making homes where we feel both safe, and relaxed, and where we can prepare ourselves for our school days. We also thank you for your help with our homework. How many of us owe our good grades to the suggestions you have made during those long evenings
And finally, the third group is our teachers. We can never pay you back for your kindness, your patience and gift of knowledge which you have offered us. Sometimes you've made us work very hard. But you have always been fair and you'll always be our role models.
There's a saying from Ireland which is a favorite of mine: Strangers are only friends you haven't met yet. I couldn't say it better myself. So from the bottom of my heart, I thank you all and wish you success in the future.

7.阅读理解
In Western society, especially in the English-speaking world, the chance for young people to see the other countries and experience life is considered important. Many young people, when they finish school at the age of 18, take a gap year before they go to university.
Parents often want their children to grow up a little and see what the real world is like when they finish school. Although they are worried about their safety, many think that the advantages of independence and experience are worth the worries. Children are encouraged to be brave, independent and to explore the world on their own or with friends.
Young people also want to experience freedom and see what life is like on the other side. This other side could be the other side of the world or just the other side of life. For example, if they have a rich life, they may want to see how people in poor areas live.
A gap year after school is also an important chance for young people to spend time thinking about what they want to do with their lives. A little bit of growing up and experience will help them make their important career decisions, especially when they are unsure about what they want to study.
Another reason for going straight after school is to get a break from studying before they start the next few years of university. So anywhere you travel in the world, you will meet young European people exploring the world.
So much of the world has been traveled and explored. The young people are now looking for more worthy experiences. Some of them work as volunteers to do something for the country they are visiting. Many gap year volunteers are now spending a few months teaching English in Thailand, helping feed giant pandas in China or building a well(井) in a village in Africa.
These young people's wish to explore the world is an expression of the values of the societies that they are part of. Both discovering the world and making a positive difference to it are important parts of the Western mind.
(1)Which is NOT a reason for young people to take a gap year
A.Young people want to take a break from studying.
B.Young people want to be sure about what to study.
C.Parents encourage them to be brave and independent.
D.Parents encourage them to live a free and wealthy life.
(2)Now a gap year volunteer might do something more valuable like _______.
A.experiencing different cultures
B.helping protect rainforests in Brazil
C.making friends with more people
D.enjoying traditional local food
(3)By taking a gap year, young people may _______.
A.stay with their parents all the time
B.make money for their further study
C.help change the world for the better
D.change the Western mind completely
(4)The purpose of writing this article is to _______.
A.show different opinions about the gap year
B.offer readers information about the gap year
C.discover new ways to take a gap year
D.tell young people when to take a gap year

"Can I take your order " Night after night, I had to say this as I worked in my family's restaurant. My father was a fantastic cook. He wanted me, his only son, to cook with him, but I didn't like cooking. Because of the restaurant, my father was always busy. He never had time to play football with me.

Several days before my graduation day, my father and I started looking at new cars. Finally, we found the right car. I was sure that my father would give it to me as my graduation gift.
On my graduation day, my father gave me a book as a gift. It was his old cookbook. I was so angry that I gave it back to him and ran out of the house. I went to see him because I was very worried.

Dear Boarding Students,
At this time of the school year, we can feel some students begin to experience excitement as the summer vacation comes. But some others still don't want to start packing. I once again ask for your attention as we will have summer camps for the new students. There is much work to be done in packing and cleaning-up, especially during the exam week.
Each student will get a task list and each task has a deadline( 期限). The dorm (寝室) teachers will work with each student each night to make sure you are getting the tasks done on time. It would be helpful if your parents encourage you to do a little packing and cleaning from now on. It means you can take the posters off the wall, pack up winter clothes, return all borrowed books to the library, etc. Spending twenty minutes a day on your tasks will make the last week of the term very easy, and you can spend more time on the important preparation for exams. If you plan to travel home, I'd like to remind you to take some of your belongings with you.
The coming weekend is a" closed weekend". During that time no one is allowed to leave school. After packing we need to prepare the dorms for moving out, and store(储藏) students' large belongings.
The last exam is on Thursday and all students leave after their exam. The dorm will remain open until 5 p. m. on Friday for those students that could not get a ride or flight. Please let us know if you need transportation to the airport.
Thank you again for all your attention during the last, busy month of school. As always, you are welcome to call or e-mail me with any questions.

Sometimes people come into your life and you know at once that they were sure to be there. They serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or help find out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be: your classmate, neighbor, teacher, long-lost friend or even a real stranger. But you know that every moment they will affect your life in some serious way.
Sometimes things happen to you. At the time they may seem terrible, painful and unfair. But later you realize that without getting over those difficulties you would have never realized your further ability and strength. Everything happens for a reason and nothing happens by chance or with good or bad luck.
The people you meet affect your life, and the successes and failure(失败)you experience, create who you are. Even the bad experiences can be learned from. In fact, they are probably the most poignant and important ones.
Enjoy every day even every moment and take from it everything that you possibly can, for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people you have never talked to before, and really listen. You should set your sights high, hold your head up, tell yourself you are a great one and believe in yourself.
You can make your life anything you wish. Create your own life and then go out and live it.

C.get over difficulties painfully D.not believe in ourselves but others
(4)Which is the best title for the passage

Stand Straight and Stand Tall!
High school was wonderful, but I had always felt uncomfortable as one of the taller members of my class, standing a head above the other girls and bowing at the back of the line to avoid sticking out.
I especially hated being around large groups of people, like during the social hour after the church services.
My grandfather watched me grow increasingly uncomfortable, but he didn't laugh at me or try to comfort me. Instead, he would warn me. "Stand straight and stand tall, " he would say, as I tried to shrink(退缩).
And each time, I would obey him. Even at age 15, I understood that his advice was about more than just feet and inches. My grandfather grew up in war-torn(饱受战争摧残的) Europe. When German soldiers took his hometown, the beautiful and exciting city of Tarnow, Poland, he joined the Soviet army for his country's freedom. "Stand straight, stand tall" meant something else since then. I trusted my grandfather more than anyone else in my childhood. And whenever I was afraid of something, he would tell me stories of his life.
After the war, he took a boat for America on January 27, 1947. All alone in a new country, he was frightened about his future. Soon he met other European immigrants(移民), each of whom tried to find his or her own way.
If they could do it, why couldn't he "Stand straight, stand tall," he would tell himself. At first my grandfather refused to enter an American church. He was angry with God for the loss of his whole family in Europe. But soon he felt his self-confidence returning. When he walked into the church the first time, he walked in proudly.
(1)Why had I always felt uncomfortable in high school
A.Because of my grandfather. B.Because of my height.
C.Because of my class. D.Because of the church services.
(2)Why did my grandfather join the Soviet army
A.Because he grew up in Russia.
B.Because his dream is to be a soldier.
C.Because he was asked by his parents.
D.Because he wanted to fight for his country's freedom.
(3)My grandfather lived a(an) ________ life in America in the beginning.
A.hard and lonely B.hard but not lonely
C.easy and happy D.easy but lonely
(4)What does "Stand straight, stand tall" mean in the passage
A.Stand straight and you'll be taller.
