七、阅读理解。

There was once a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.
The first day, the boy drove 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.
Finally, the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it, and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.
Days passed, and the boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. "You have done well, my son," he said. "But look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like these holes. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound is still there."
The boy then understood how powerful his words were and how important it was to control his temper.
1.What did the father ask the boy to do when he lost his temper
A. To say sorry.
B. To hammer a nail into the fence.

C. To control his temper and be careful with words.

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. All the other frogs gathered around the pit. When they saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead.
The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump out of the pit with all their might. The other frogs kept shouting at them to stop, that they were doomed. Finally, one of the frogs took heed of what the others were saying and gave up. He fell down and died.
The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the other frogs yelled at him to give up, that he was wasting his energy. But this frog just kept on jumping.
Eventually, with one last heave, he jumped out of the pit. The other frogs were astonished. They asked him, "Why did you keep jumping when we told you to stop Didn't you hear us "
The frog explained, "I'm deaf. I thought you were cheering me on all the time."
This story teaches us two lessons: First, a negative word from an outsider can often kill a person's motivation and spirit. Second, an encouraging word, even if it's not heard as such, can give someone the strength to go on.
