Paper cutting is one of the most popular Chinese handicrafts(手工艺). It can go back to the 6th century. From the 7th to 13th century, paper cutting became popular, especially during Chinese festivals. The art spread to the rest of the world in the 14th century.
Paper cuttings are used in many ways. Today, paper cuttings are mainly used as decorations(装饰) at ceremonies or celebrations. They decorate walls, windows, doors, pillars, mirrors, lamps and lanterns. And they themselves can also be given as gifts. Paper cuttings were also used to serve as the mould pattern(模具) for making embroideries and paintings.
Wishes for wealth, health and longevity are often expressed through paper cuttings. For example, during the Chinese New Year, the character “Fu” is pasted upside down on the door to express people’s wish for the coming of goodness. At a birthday party of an old person, paper cuttings with the character “Shou” are often seen, showing people’s wishes for living a long life. At a wedding ceremony, a red paper cutting with the character “Xi” traditionally carries wishes for happiness for the newly - married couple.
The tools required for paper cutting are simply a piece of paper, usually paper in red, the most popular color in Chinese culture, and knives and scissors. So it is easy to learn how to make paper cuttings.

Staying Healthy in the Digital Age
With the rise of smartphones and computers, screen time has become a major part of students' lives. While technology helps us learn and connect, it also brings challenges to our health. Many students now spend hours sitting sedentary, staring at screens, which can harm both their bodies and minds.
First, too much screen time often leads to physical problems. Sitting for long periods without exercise weakens muscles(肌肉) and may cause back pain. Staring at screens can also hurt our eyes. Doctors suggest following the "20-20-20" rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Second, mental health is equally important. Studies show that students who spend over 3 hours daily on social media are more likely to feel anxious or lonely. Instead of endless scrolling, joining a sports club or talking with friends face-to-face can boost(增加) happiness.
Schools are taking action too. Some have introduced "no-screen breaks" during lunchtime, encouraging students to play outdoors. Others organize health workshops to teach balanced lifestyles. For example, our school recently held a debate: "Should students use phones during weekends " Many argued that setting time limits helps balance study and relaxation.
Of course, technology isn't all bad. Educational apps and online workouts can actually improve health if used wisely. The key is to find a balance—enjoy technology, but don’t let it control your life.

Take Care of Yourself
In today’s fast - paced world, taking care of ourselves is important. Having a healthy body and mind enables us to enjoy life to the fullest and achieve our goals.
Firstly, we need to pay attention to our physical health. If we want to keep in good health, taking regular exercise and having enough sleep are necessary. They are great ways for us to be full of energy. Secondly, we are supposed to take care of our mental health. Learning to deal with stress is the key to maintaining mental happiness. It is quite important for us to build positive relationships with friends and family, which provide support and a sense of belonging for us.
In conclusion, by paying attention to both physical health and mental health, we can lead a happier and healthier life.
