Mankind has carried on beneficial, strong relationships with horses, relying on their speed, endurance, and raw power, while providing affection and care in return. For Kody Wall, a US Marine Corps Veteran (老兵), this special bond saved his life.
“I moved home to Texas after my time as a Marine and very little went well. I had a really hard time adapting,” Wall said. While hopelessness set in, the darkness would soon clear thanks to a unique therapeutic (治疗的) approach focused on his relationship with a horse.
“My sister pushed me to visit Sunny Creek Ranch, a partner of Houston VA, as she knew how much I enjoyed being around horses. It was the best thing that could’ve happened for me,” said Wall. He also shares his own experiences with other veterans attending sessions, which can really help to open them up.
Shannon Novak, who launched the program, said that for a lot of veterans and their family members that participated, they found the relationship with these horses to be similar to that of their own personal relationships. Wall said working with the horses in hose therapy had helped him learn to communicate more openly with people, resulting in a better and more trusting relationship.
“The challenge in horse therapy is to develop a trusting relationship with your horse, which in many ways brings out lessons about our own relationships and helps us learn new ways of being in them, ” said Dr Shannon Sisco, whole health coordinator at the Houston VA.
Veterans do not need the experience of working with horses to participate in the therapy. They will not actually be riding horses, just interacting with them alongside a professionally licensed therapist. “The difference between connecting with horses versus people is that it all depends on your actions rather than your words,” Sisco said. “They are watching what you do and listening to your tone. If you’re not earning their trust, they’re going to let you know. ”
4. What can be learned about Wall
A. He used to raise horses in the army. B. He really enjoyed horse riding.
C. He once felt hopeless about life. D. He offered to instruct attendees.
5. How did the horse therapy affect Wall

There is good news for people who have had strokes (中风). A new English startup has found a way to help people who have suffered from a stroke to increase their mobility with nothing more than a small device that can be tied to their limbs. This could truly improve the lives of so many people.
The startup, called Neubond, has done the impossible. Using a small device wrapped around the arm of stroke patient Lisa Vincent, the researchers were able to reinstate the mobility of her rigid and immobile left arm. Vincent’s arm was nearly paralyzed (瘫痪) by a stroke four years before she took part in Neubond’s study. Only a few months after beginning the treatment, she was able to hold her infant grandchild, something she had not been able to do before.
“The device calculates which muscle is becoming active to then trigger a stimulation within the same muscle, which fist will enhance the contraction, and second, it will be like a message that you will send back to the brain, and it will rewire the activity and the connections between the brain and the muscle. So then you regain mobility, ” Patrick Sagastegui Alva, one of Neubond’s co-founders said.
The study Vincent participated in was quite successful. In January 2025, Neubond is expected to start a larger scale trial of the device with 20 patients at Charing Cross Hospital in London.
The founders also hope to start the regulatory process so that they can ensure that the device meets medical standards and can become certified. In the future, the plan is to start partnering with private clinics and bring the product to market.
The Neubond device is not only a testament to human ingenuity (创造力),but also shows what the incredible ability of the body to heal itself. It is truly amazing to think that no matter a person’s age is, their brain is still able to build new connections and find ways to overcome injury.

A. Speed up. B. Bring back. C. Monitor. D. Maintain.
9. What aspect of the device does paragraph 3 mainly talk about

C. Its unique features. D. Its wide application.
10. What do the founders expect of the device

C. It’ll set medical standards. D. It’ll reach consumers.
11. What is the basis for the device
A. Human beings are truly adaptable. B. An aging brain works well.

Sharing the space you live in with anyone can be super rewarding, but it can also be challenging especially when it is with someone who has a different background from you and different likes, dislikes and standards.
Differences in personality and habits come out when you are living with another person. At the same time, people’s good qualities come out too. With open communication and mutual respect, you can live harmoniously with someone else, and enjoy the benefits of sharing your space with another person.
According to Boston. com, it’s all about getting to know the other person and understanding where they are coming from. If you do that, you will be able to be flexible with their needs and they will be able to be flexible with yours. It will also help you feel more comfortable with them and be able to communicate honestly and openly, which is key.
Part of that communication and honesty is being able to create rules and guidelines together. The Vox reports that creating these rules will allow you to know what is important for each person and help you create an environment of compromise. Although you don't agree on everything, which makes sense, this kind of environment helps create healthy negotiation and allows you to get on the same page with each other.
You and your roommate may come from different countries, cultures, maybe even speak different languages. At the very least, you grew up in different houses and are used to different things. A blog on Education First recommends you take the time to know each other and make the conscious decision to respect each other. Part of mutual respect is making sure you are each doing your part and sharing the housework.
It is true that living with a roommate requires effort on both sides. It might not come naturally to you, but with some rules and respect, you can do it.
12. How can you live in harmony with someone else
A. With caution. B. With care. C. With ease. D. With respect.
13. What does Boston. com suggest roommates do
A. Give priority to one’s own needs. B. Get ready to make compromises.
C. Dig into each other’s differences. D. Make strict rules and guidelines.

A. They should be shared. B. They are a source of conflict.
C. They might be ignored. D. They take up too much time.
15. What’s the purpose of the text
A. To get people to live with others. B. To give tips on living with others.
C. To recommend an ideal roommate. D. To help roommates make sacrifices.

Girls’ night had been a custom in my family, during which my mom and I would spend our time in our own way. This year’s girls’ night, we came to a restaurant, ordering our food and admiring the music that a band was playing live. There were also people waltzing on the dance floor. Then Mom’s lips pursed.
“It’s a good band, don’t you think, Mom ” I asked. She shrugged and said, “What use is a good band when no one is dancing to it ” I laughed and asked why she didn’t just get up to go to ask one of these guys here to dance.
Mom replied, “I like to waltz, and that band was playing a lot of waltzes. But none of those guys know how to waltz. They all just do some offbeat, ridiculous, hug-and-sway thing. ”
I laughed and said, “Mom! Have you forgotten that it was you who taught all four of your children to waltz You told us that if we could count ‘1, 2, 3. . . ‘, we could learn to waltz. Why not teach those guys not knowing how to waltz and create your own dancing pool You’ll end up being the most popular dance partner in there!”
Mom shook her head, “A lady always waits to be invited, Janet! Let’s go home. I’m not about to look like the poor little old lady who shows up without a dancing partner. So much for our dreaming girls’ night out.” I sighed and followed her to the parking lot in silence.
“Well, I’ll go back to buy a hamburger or something. Do you want to go with me ” I asked.
“I don’t want to go back in there. And I’m not going to just sit in the car while you go in. So I’ll go in, but just to listen to some more good music while waiting,” my mom answered.
We walked back, and Mom sat at the corner and waited. Then I excused myself to go to the bathroom.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

During the event, teams from various schools presented their robot designs. The competition was intense, with each team showcasing their creativity in robotics and engineering. Our robot performed exceptionally well in tasks like getting around obstacles and moving things.
While I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness throughout the competition, seeing our hard work pay off was incredibly satisfying. It was an unforgettable experience that not only enhanced my technical skills but also taught me the value of teamwork.
Yours,
Li Hua

On my way I noticed the dancing people again and then an idea hit me. When I was walking to the bathroom, I went out of my way to say hello to those guys who were just doing some offbeat, ridiculous, hug-and-sway thing. I chatted with them for a while about waltz. I mentioned that my mother is a good dancer, and that she was willing to help out some of the men who’d like to learn to waltz. I suggested that they invite my mom to join them in dancing. Hearing what I said, the guys were excited and expressed that they really anticipated her involvement and guidance. I was expecting something to happen.
When I came out from the bathroom, something I had expected happened! Mom was teaching the guys to dance waltz to the music that the band was playing. She was out on the dance floor, counting loudly, “1, 2, 3. . . ” Under the guidance of my mom, those guys who were just doing offbeat, ridiculous, hug-and-sway thing had changed their dance, starting to dance waltz to the music. So fast did they learn that they began dancing well. And at the end of the night, Mom ended up becoming popular with several of the gentlemen she’d taught to waltz. On seeing her actions, I couldn’t help feeling delighted.
