Communication is important for strong family relationships. However, if you don’t truly listen to others, it can be difficult to communicate.Working on your listening skills can help you communicate better and form stronger bonds.
Stay in the present.
When listening to a family member, do not think about other things.Put your phone away and give the speaker your full attention. It’s important to try to stay in the present to make your family member feel heard and valued.Pay attention to what is being said.Make understanding the speaker’s thoughts the most important thing at the moment.
Use body language.
If you want the family member to feel valued, make sure to show that you are listening. You can do it by using body language.Nod as the speaker talks.Smile often.Maintain eye contact.
Do not cut in.
Cutting in can prevent you from communicating effectively. No matter how excited you feel about a subject, do not start talking until the family member has finished.Always allow a few seconds of silence after the speaker finishes talking before offering your reply. This allows you to make sure the speaker has finished, and gives the speaker a chance to fully express himself.
Ask questions.
Part of listening is understanding. If there is anything in the conversation you don’t understand, please ask after the family member finishes. This shows you are truly listening to him and value his thoughts. Ask questions that encourage open discussions. For example, “What do you think of the situation?” Avoid asking “why” questions, which might make the speaker feel uncomfortable.
Follow these tips, listen actively to your family to help communication run smoothly and build strong family relationships.

We shouldn’t think about other things.
29.What can you do in order to show that you are listening?

Listening well doesn’t come naturally to most people.24. D This also means we often don’t really focus(集中) on what people are saying. One way to listen with more care and attention is to practice active listening.
25. A Active listening is not only hearing someone’s words but also taking notes of their nonverbal(非口头的) communication.Nonverbal communication can include body language, the tone(语气) and their talking speed.By practicing active listening, we can hold onto important information better and show care to others. This useful skill makes others want to discuss things with us.
To get better at active listening, give the speaker your complete attention.26. E Stopping thinking about your phone and clearing your mind of your own thoughts are the first steps.By forgetting those things that could influence you, it’s easier to give your complete attention to the speaker.
Another way to practice active listening is to notice body language.Research shows that 55% of face-to-face communication is nonverbal, 38% vocal(嗓音的) and 7% words.27. C With that in mind, you can give proper replies like nodding, smiling or looking at them politely.

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题或翻译画线部分。
28.What shouldn’t you do while listening to your family?
29.What can you do in order to show that you are listening?
30.What allows you to make sure the speaker has finished?

A.Active listening is focusing on what someone is communicating.
B.This means we don’t pay attention to what someone is expressing.
C.When someone is speaking, their body language is giving information, too.
D.Because most of us live in a busy world, we care about certain things and miss the rest.
E.Although this may seem clear and easy to notice and understand, it is easier said than done.
When we talk, we typically expect others to listen with attention. But when someone else is speaking, are we showing them the same politeness?
Listening well doesn’t come naturally to most people.24. This also means we often don’t really focus(集中) on what people are saying. One way to listen with more care and attention is to practice active listening.
25. Active listening is not only hearing someone’s words but also taking notes of their nonverbal(非口头的) communication.Nonverbal communication can include body language, the tone(语气) and their talking speed.By practicing active listening, we can hold onto important information better and show care to others. This useful skill makes others want to discuss things with us.
To get better at active listening, give the speaker your complete attention.26. Stopping thinking about your phone and clearing your mind of your own thoughts are the first steps.By forgetting those things that could influence you, it’s easier to give your complete attention to the speaker.
Another way to practice active listening is to notice body language.Research shows that 55% of face-to-face communication is nonverbal, 38% vocal(嗓音的) and 7% words.27. With that in mind, you can give proper replies like nodding, smiling or looking at them politely.
Now do you know how to listen actively?

We all have some problems and stress in our lives. How should we solve them? Here is some advice.
Firstly,we should take more part in exercise.Sports can help make our body healthier and make us study better. In my opinion,it’s necessary for us to exercise more than one hour every day.Secondly,we should talk with our parents, teachers or friends as often as we can so that they can give us more useful advice to solve those problems and stress.Thirdly,we should listen to music or read some books. They are good ways to relax ourselves.Fourthly, when we sometimes get bad grades,we should learn to face them bravely.
All in all,if we accept the advice above,I think we can deal with our problems and stress successfully. We can become more and more confident.
①第一段最后一句用“Here is some advice.”引出下文几点建议。
②“Firstly, Secondly, Thirdly, Fourthly”等表示时间顺序的词的使用使文章逻辑清晰。
