高中英语必修一Unit 2 Travelling around
Listening and Speaking 教案
I. Teaching Objectives
1. Listening Skills:Enable students to grasp key information such as travel destinations, transportation means, and travel preparations through listening to various conversations related to traveling.
2. Speaking Abilities:Motivate students to communicate about travel - related topics, including sharing travel plans, discussing preparation steps, and making travel reservations in fluent English.
3. Language Knowledge:Help students understand and apply the present continuous tense to express future travel plans accurately.
4. Collaborative and Thinking Skills:Cultivate students' cooperative learning spirit through group work and enhance their individual thinking capabilities during discussions and presentations.
II. Teaching Key and Difficult Points
1. Key Point:Teach students effective listening strategies, especially how to focus on key words and phrases to quickly understand the main idea of listening materials.
2. Difficult Point:Prompt students to express their ideas about traveling comprehensively and creatively, overcoming language barriers and expressing complex thoughts precisely.
III. Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Lead - in (5 minutes)
1. The teacher shows some pictures of famous travel destinations around the world on the PPT, such as the Eiffel Tower in France, the Great Wall in China, and the Sydney Opera House in Australia.
2. Ask students: “If you could travel to one of these places right now, which one would you choose and why ” Encourage students to share their thoughts briefly in class.
Step 2: Pre - listening (8 minutes)
1. Conduct a brainstorming activity. Write the phrase “Travel Preparations” on the blackboard. Divide students into small groups of 4 - 5. Each group is required to list as many things as possible that need to be prepared before a trip within 3 minutes.
2. After that, invite some groups to share their lists. The teacher can summarize and write down common items on the blackboard, like “book tickets”, “pack clothes”, “get a passport”, etc.
Step 3: Listening (20 minutes)
1. Listening for General Ideas
- Play a conversation between two friends planning a trip. The conversation covers their destination, the reason for choosing it, and the approximate travel time.
- After the first listening, students answer the following general questions:
- What is their travel destination
- When are they planning to go
- Play the conversation again. This time, students need to listen carefully and fill in a simple table:
Traveler Destination Travel Time Reason for Travel
Friend 1
Friend 2
2. Listening for Details
- Play a more complex conversation that includes details about travel preparations, such as how to get there, what to pack, and how to make reservations.
- Before playing, give students a listening tip: “While listening, pay special attention to key words related to travel actions, places, and time. Try to ignore unimportant information.”
- After the first listening, students answer some detailed questions:
- How are they going to reach the destination
- What special items do they need to pack
- Play the conversation one more time. Students complete a more detailed form about travel preparations:
Travel Preparations Specific Actions
Transportation
Accommodation
Documents
Luggage
Others
Step 4: Speaking (15 minutes)
1. Group Work
- Divide students into pairs. Each pair chooses a travel destination that is different from others in the class.
- They are required to create a detailed travel plan, including all aspects such as transportation, accommodation, things to do at the destination, and necessary preparations.
2. Presentation
- After 8 - 10 minutes of discussion, each pair presents their travel plan to the class. Other students can listen carefully and ask questions or give suggestions at the end of each presentation.
Step 5: Language Focus (7 minutes)
1. The teacher selects some sentences from the listening materials that use the present continuous tense to express future plans, like “I'm flying to Paris next week.”
2. Explain the structure and usage of this grammar point in the context of travel. Have students practice making their own sentences with the same structure. For example, ask students to describe their imaginary future travel plans using the present continuous tense.
IV. Teaching Reflection
Overall, this lesson was quite successful in engaging students in the topic of traveling. The lead - in with pictures effectively attracted students' attention and inspired their enthusiasm. The pre - listening brainstorming activity helped students activate their prior knowledge related to travel preparations. During the listening part, most students were able to master the listening strategies and obtain key information. However, there were still some areas for improvement. In the speaking activity, some students had difficulty expressing complex ideas due to limited vocabulary. Also, the time management for group presentations could be better. Next time, I will allocate more time for vocabulary building before the speaking task. Additionally, I will set a stricter time limit for presentations to ensure that more pairs can share their ideas. This way, students can have a more fulfilling learning experience and improve their listening and speaking skills more effectively.
