Despite these challenges, Wang entered Wuhan University of Biotechnology in 2019 to study Business English. She lived her school life with walking sticks, competing for and winning the position of an assistant in her class, impressing others with her positive energy. “She never complains about her challenges or disability,” said a close friend.
The long run of walking sticks using led to scoliosis (脊柱侧凸), but hope came when a classmate got news about a prosthetic leg (假肢). Despite the high cost, her family managed to raise the funds. After a period of adaptation and many falls, Wang successfully got used to her prosthetic leg.
The university supported Wang by offering her a sunnier dorm and aiding her in applying for scholarships. Despite her condition, Wang devoted herself to volunteering and taking part in community service, adding up to over 400 hours of service. “I’ve received so much help, and I want to give back,” she said.
Wang was excellent, graduating with high scores and passing the postgraduate entrance exam, although she was first accepted to a junior college course, known as Zhuanke in Chinese. She chose to run after graduate studies in Marxism at Hubei Minzu University, “My experience of volunteering has shown me that this major can help me better serve society and realize my value in the future,” explained Wang. Misophonia (恐音症) is a condition where specific sounds, such as chewing or pen clicking, can cause extreme emotional and physical reactions, including increased heart rate and blood pressure. Misophonia is more common than many realize. Our study shows that nearly one in five adults in the UK may have it.
To conduct our study, we carried out a survey with 772 British people in different age and sex. Our survey included 25 statements. For example, one was “If I can’t avoid certain sounds, I feel helpless.” Participants (参加者) were asked to rate how true each statement was for them on a rating from zero to ten(ten being very true), choosing their typical emotional reaction to a list of 37 common trigger (触发) sounds.
We found that around 18% of our participants likely had misophonia. There was no big difference between men and women in the prevalence (患病率) of the condition. However, age seemed to play a role, with older people reporting less serious reactions. Surprisingly, just under 14% of our participants were familiar with the term misophonia, suggesting many people who experience intense reactions to sounds might not yet know the term to describe their condition.
It is important to note that finding certain sounds annoying does not necessarily mean you have misophonia. Our study showed that 85% of people find sounds like chewing, and dogs barking repeatedly to be annoying. It is the nature of how a person reacts to such sounds that determines if they have misophonia.
Misophonia was first recognized in 2001 but was not officially regarded as a disorder until 2022. No wonder that many people — even those seriously affected by misophonia — are unaware of it. While there is no sign of a cure in sight, researchers hope that their study may provide some comfort for people who thought they were alone in their extreme reactions to everyday sounds. They also hope the study will raise awareness of the condition so that people with misophonia can get the help they need.
8. How did researchers conduct the study
A. By making a survey. B. By tracking participants.
C. By making an experiment. D.By referring to related researches.
9. We determine a man has misophonia by ______.
A. his reaction to certain sounds. B. his opinion of certain sounds.
C. his feeling about certain sounds. D. his preference for certain sounds.
10. What is the researchers’ attitude towards the future cure of misophonia
A. Unconcerned. B. Disappointed. C. Hopeful. D. Grateful.
11. Which is the best title of the passage
A. Misophonia: A Well-known Disorder.
B. Misophonia: A Newly-discovered Condition.
C. Misophonia: A Hidden but Dangerous Disorder.
D. Misophonia: A Common Yet Unfamiliar Condition.

Koalas live in the eucalyptus (桉树) forests of southeastern and eastern Australia. They depend on the eucalyptus tree for both habitat and food. In fact, they seldom leave these trees. When not sleeping, they’ re usually eating. They can eat more than a pound of eucalyptus leaves a day. Eucalyptus is poisonous, so the koala’ s digestive (消化的) system has to work hard to digest it, breaking down the poisons and taking in the limited nutrients (营养). That’s why koalas sleep for 18 to 22 hours a day — they get very little energy from their diet.
Koala numbers decreased in the late 19th and early 20th century from hunting for their fur. Now they face serious threats from habitat loss. Land clearing and bush fires — especially the 2019-2020 Australia Bushfire Season — have destroyed much of the forest they live in. Koalas are easy to be affected by climate change. Increasing greenhouse gas in the air is decreasing the nutritional quality of eucalyptus leaves and causing longer, more serious droughts and wildfires. To deal with drought, koalas are forced to stop sleeping and come down from the trees to find water, putting them at a higher risk of being killed.
Koalas have been identified by the Australian government as one of the 113 animals requiring immediate help. Ensuring there’s the right kind of forest for them to return to is extremely important. State governments should create new koala reserves and persuade landowners not to cut down eucalyptus trees. Meanwhile, getting the public to understand koalas’ living habits and their health will throw light on koala biology, which helps to develop plans to better protect the species.
12. What can we learn about koalas
A. They like moving around very much.
B. They often get ill for eucalyptus leaves.
C. They can be seen everywhere in Australia.
D. They have developed smart survival skills.
13. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about
A. The possible threats to Koalas. B. Koalas’ newly-formed habits.
C. Koalas’ decreasing population. D. The outcomes of greenhouse gas.
14. What is the most important thing to do right now to protect koalas
A. Conduct the research on their living habits.
B. Realize they’re sensitive to climate change.
C. Reserve the proper habitat they are living on.
D. Raise the public awareness of protecting them.
15. From which is the text probably taken
A. A travel brochure. B. A cartoon book.
C. A nature magazine. D. A sports newspaper.

On September 15, 1752, twelve-year-old Lewis Hallam Jr. stood shaking on the stage, his heart beating fast in his chest. Born in a family that worked in the theater, with his mother an actress and his father the manager of their theater company, Lewis had never before faced an audience.
The theater, once a well-known place during the day, now seemed strange and scary, with the walls moving in the light from the hanging lamps, and the air full of the smells of smoke, and the press of the crowd, all eyes focused on him.
The Hallam family’s theater company had made the journey from England to America earlier that year, and tonight’s performance of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice marked their first show in this new world. Lewis was clearly aware of the importance of this play; their jobs in the future depended on how well this show did.
His father, a clever manager, thought that both Lewis and his big sister should be given roles in the play because people often clapped (鼓掌) for kids, even if they weren’t great at acting. This was called the “clap trick”. His sister had already done her part and people liked it a lot, and now it was Lewis’s turn.
He was to play a helper to Portia, the main girl in the play, with a single line to say. His mom was playing Portia, so he simply had to walk up to her as she handed him a letter and say, “Madam, I go with all convenient speed.”
As Lewis stood in the bright light, scared, his mom smiled at him. She held out the letter and said, “But get you gone. I shall be there before you.” It was his time to talk. He must speak now. He looked at the audience, his tongue feeling heavy in his mouth. Then, without saying anything, he started crying and ran off the stage.

Cyber Security Knowledge Competition
Last Friday, I participated in a cyber security knowledge competition organized by our school. The competition was held in the school hall and lasted for two hours.
During the competition, I answered various questions about cyber security, including how to protect personal information, how to avoid cyber cheating, and how to deal with cyber attacks. After several rounds of competition, I won a prize with some others.
I think this competition is very meaningful. Not only does it enhance our awareness of cyber security, but also it enables us to learn more about how to protect ourselves in the digital age.I hope more such competitions will be held in the future to allow more students to learn about cyber security.
读后续写例文
Backstage, Lewis was hugged by his worried yet supportive father. He wiped away Lewis’s tears and said, “You can do this, son, the stage is just a place for storytelling. It’s alright to feel fearful, but remember, we are always here supporting you.” Lewis saw not just the manager of a theater company, but a father believing in his son. His words gave Lewis comfort and courage. Taking a deep breath, Lewis felt a sense of bravery building up inside him and decided to face his fears.
As Lewis returned to the stage, his mother offered an encouraging nod to him. The audience, once impatient, fell silent, their focus entirely on Lewis. His mother, still in her role, repeated her lines. This time, Lewis locked eyes with her, with his father’s words in his mind. He accepted the letter and, his voice rang out clearly and powerfully. As he spoke, the audience burst into loud applause. Lewis overcame his fear and became a true performer. That night marked more than a successful performance; it celebrated the theme of belief and courage in facing one’s fear.
