Not having done physical exercise for some time, I found myself a little low-spirited and couldn't study efficiently, so I decided to do some running the next day. At 6:15 the next morning, my alarm clock rang. Unwilling to rise from my bed, I turned it off and went back to sleep. However, 5 minutes later, I struggled to get up. After washing and brushing, I had my sneakers on and went out.
Wow! The air was so fresh that I couldn't help breathing it deeply. I stretched (伸展) my arms and legs, then started to run. I found all things around me were so attractive. Look, the branches were waving, as if they were welcoming me; the blossoming flowers were bowing, with shyness, just like girls. Listen, the wind was whispering, as if to say “come on, girl”. What's more interesting was those two birds, perching in the tree. They were scared and flew away when I passed them. “Hey, chaps, relax.” I shouted without stopping running. “Let's enjoy the beautiful morning together!” Then miracle (奇迹) happened. The two little creatures seemed to understand what I said. They turned back and twittered (吱吱叫) around me. “Are you singing for me ” I asked. They twittered again and again, sounded like “Yes”. I was delighted to hear that. Ah, what a wonderful morning and how beautiful life is!
Actually, there are a lot of charming things around us. Helen Keller wrote in her famous article Three Days to See, “The seeing see little”. Indeed, many of us ignore the beauty around us, just because we are familiar with them. They always complain that life is boring. But, I just want to say, if you live each day with appreciation of things around, you'll find life is very charming. So, let's enjoy life from now on.

Those of us who shop online may look over customer reviews to get a better sense of products we can’t judge for ourselves at a physical store. We may check out online recommendations before booking a haircut or visiting a new restaurant. But what happens if some of those reviews can’t be trusted
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently announced that it was suggesting new measures to crack down on (严厉打击) fake (虚假的) reviews and other practices used to mislead consumers. The commission published a suggested rule that would prohibit companies from writing or selling fake reviews, buying positive reviews, silencing negative reviews and more.
“Our suggested rule on fake reviews shows that we’re using all possible means to attack misleading advertising in the digital age,” Samuel Levine, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, said in a statement.
Research shows most people heavily rely on online reviews, but humans are also bad at telling which consumer reviews hold water and which are nonsense.
That’s potentially worrisome given that nearly one in every three reviews is fake, according to one study.
In arguing for the suggested rule, the FTC cited what action it had taken against companies that controlled reviews of their products.
In 2022, for example, the commission forced the online retailer Fashion Nova, LLC to pay $4.2 million to settle allegations (指控) that it prevented negative reviews from being posted on its website – the first FTC action involving a company’s effort to hide negative reviews. For its part, Fashion Nova said in a statement to The New York Times that the FTC’s allegations were “inaccurate” and that it only settled the charges to avoid “the distraction (分心) and legal fees”.
Comments on the suggested rule have to be received within 60 days of its publication in the Federal Register, after which the FTC will decide whether to issue a revised final version.
28.What is the main purpose of the FTC’s suggested rule
A.To improve the quality of products and services. B.To ensure true reviews are presented to customers.
C.To ban negative reviews from online platforms. D.To protect the interests of physical stores.
29.What does the underlined phrase “hold water” in paragraph 4 most probably mean
A.Be trustworthy. B.Be one-sided.
C.Be official. D.Be misleading.
30.Why was Fashion Nova forced to pay $4.2 million in a settlement in 2022
A.To remove negative reviews of its products.
B.To post customer reviews on its website.
C.To resolve its allegations of dishonest advertising.
D.To prevent it from facing further criticism and legal fees.
31.What can be inferred about the suggested rule
A.It is well-received. B.It is still under review.
C.It has proven to be effective. D.It has faced disagreement.
D
Britain is the sixth fattest country: within the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). For more than a decade, the government has declared obesity (肥胖) a national emergency and promised to take action, only to produce disappointing plans that don’t reach what is required.
It should not have taken a disease like COVID-19 to make people fully aware of the awful consequences of the UK’s obesity. Obesity, as well as its associated conditions of diabetes (糖尿病) and high blood pressure, is strongly connected with a higher risk of death from COVID-19 and will have undoubtedly been a factor in the UK having the highest COVID-19 death rate in Europe.
As the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson’s experience of caching the virus and being admitted to ICU has reportedly resulted in a complete change in him, who has previously prided himself on his dislike of an over-controlling state. The government is expected to set out a new strategy this week, aimed at reducing obesity levels both in the next few months — ahead of a possible second wave of infections and the longer term.
This obvious change is welcome, but only if it results in a complete change in the government’s approach, which doesn’t rely on personal responsibility but on much tougher rules, as with tobacco and alcohol.
There is plenty of evidence about what is needed to cut obesity and in recent years, many reports, including from Public Health England and the former chief medical officer, have called for urgent action. Yet these calls were ignored by the government that has seemingly put the food and drink industry’s financial interests over the health of the nation.
32.What has the government done with obesity in the past ten years
A.It has denied (否认) it is a national emergency. B.It has made unsatisfying plans to reduce it.
C.It has taken effective steps to control it. D.It has called for immediate action on it.
33.What might the British government do next
A.Place less stress on financial interests. B.Set stricter limits on tobacco and alcohol.
C.Carry out a new strategy to cut obesity. D.Take action to reduce COVID-19 death rate.
34.From the passage, we can learn that______.
A.the British government should have paid more attention to solving obesity
B.the fast-spread disease COVID-19 resulted in the UK’s obesity
C.the Prime Minister caught the virus and was admitted to ICU for obesity
D.the British government has taken effective action to battle against obesity
35.What’s the best title for the text
A.UK Suffering from COVID-19 B.UK Ready for a Complete Change
C.A Cause of Highest COVID-19 Death Rate D.Obesity: An Urgent Problem in the UK

If your stress-response is always on, your immune system suffers and your blood pressure increases. 36 . So what are some ways to quiet your body’s stress response and gain some much-needed calm
37
The first way to start your relaxation mode is to breathe. Now, you may be saying, “I breathe all day. If I didn’t, I’d be dead.” 38 . But many of us go through our days without breathing deeply. There’s a difference between stressed-out shallow breathing and slow, deep breaths. This kind of deep breathing leads to all sorts of health benefits such as decreased oxygen consumption, decreased blood pressure, and increased carefulness.
Practice Imagination
You can experience that relaxation mode by trying imagination. My favorite is to imagine I’m on a beach. I use all five senses to try to bury myself in the imagined experience of relaxation on a beach. I try to smell the ocean air and see and hear the waves. 39 .
Play Pretend
40 . I find that if I pretend I’m a professional California surfer, it’s much easier to decrease stress and get into my relaxation mode. A simple “No problem” can go a really long way.

That school year God blessed me with two trusted children—Tom and Mary. Whenever I went out for training, programs or personal matters, I left everything to them.
However, the peace was ruined when one day I lost one thousand pesos (比索) in my bag. I always kept my wallet near me. I only chose my trusted students to get near my things. I kept the door of my office closed every time I went for my classes. My spine trembled upon my seeing my money was no longer there. I scanned my wallet, my secret pocket and everything in my room. But all my attempts were in vain.
I was angry. That morning before my class ended, I appealed to everyone to help me catch the “thief”. At 4:00 in the afternoon that day, I reminded them about my warning of returning my money before investigation took place. Then suddenly, a boy called Larry said, “Miss, look at the paper on the floor!”
My heart beat wildly when I saw the crumpled paper which I thought useless. I replied to them immediately upon holding the paper. “Yes, here it is!” I showed it to them. They urged me to open the paper. I opened it and to my surprise, I saw the one thousand pesos! I felt relieved. Then, a letter appeared among the banknotes.
“Miss, I am sorry that I stole the money. I returned it. Do not tell my classmates that I returned the money and do not mention anything about it in class, because it hurts me. Thank you, Miss. But I can’t tell you why I stole your money.”
Oh my God! My brain flashed the handwriting of my trusted boy—the “thief”. I was sure this was Tom’s handwriting.

A recent art exhibition in Florida honored the animal often seen as man’s most intelligent friend, the dolphin. The exhibition in the Florida Keys featured life-sized dolphin paintings mainly made of wood, as well as glass and stone. The dolphins were shown at business areas and along the beach. Organizers paid $750 to cover the artists’ fees and the cost of the materials. There were about 100 dolphin themes. They showed the works of local artists, as well as the beach atmosphere the Keys are famous for. Probably the most unique was its artist, Pandora. Pandora, the dolphin painter, is a real dolphin, at the Dolphin Research Center. The playful artist makes colors across a dolphin painting, holding a brush in its mouth. The exhibition will be held by the Monroe Council of the Arts as part of a plan to make the Keys an international arts center.

故选A。35.主旨大意题。根据第一段中的“Britain is the sixth fattest country: within the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).(在经济合作与发展组织(OECD)的成员国中,英国是第六胖的国家)”和最后一段中的“There is plenty of evidence about what is needed to cut obesity and in recent years, many reports, including from Public Health England and the former chief medical officer, have called for urgent action. If your stress-response is always on, your immune system suffers and your blood pressure increases. 36 . So what are some ways to quiet your body’s stress response and gain some much-needed calm

Dear Peter,
I'm sorry to hear that you are weak because of lack of exercise. I recommend you table tennis.
Table tennis is not only a sport but also an art, because it is a game that needs strength and skill. Some people think that playing table tennis needs little strength, but I don't think so. When playing table tennis, we should judge the direction of the ball, and hit it back with great strength. So after one game you will be very tired if you have tried your best. In the game, you can often find the ball moving quickly, and the players' movements are very beautiful.
I think playing table tennis can build up our bodies. Hope you will join me in playing table tennis.
Yours Truly,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【参考答案】
The next day, I called Tom to my office. The boy admitted that he was the thief and asked for my forgiveness. I asked him the reason. He said Mary’s mother was in hospital and Mary’s family didn’t have enough money to pay for the treatment. I said in earnest: “Tom, I’m quite touched by your golden heart, but taking money without permission is not a proper way to solve the problem.” Tom lowered his head in shame. “Come on! Let’s visit Mary’s mother and see what we can do for her.”
We went to the hospital and saw Mary’s mother. Mary’s mother was surprised to see us, but soon she collected herself and showed her great gratitude for us visiting her. Thinking of sensible Mary and kind-hearted Tom, I chose not to tell her the incident, comforted her and left the 1000 pesos and some more for her. On our way back, Tom hugged me tightly, tears in his eyes. Later Tom became a better person. Under proper guidance, a boy with a warm heart can shine more brightly.
