How to make your action vivid
--Individual Verb & Action Chain & Action Scene
After learning this class, I should be able to:
1. Master (掌握) the ways to make our action descriptions (动作描写) more vivid by practice.
2. Improve writing by using the learned action descriptions.

I.Individual Verb
(单个动作描写)
1.Individual Verb--Adv(副词/表示心情类的副词)/PP(介词短语)
Skill 1:主语+动作A +Adv(副词/表示心情类的副词)/PP(介词短语)
He rushed away.
He cried.
immediately
fearfully and loudly
其他副词或者介词短语包括: without hesitation (毫不犹豫地),
suddenly(突然地), instantly(立即地), rapidly(立即地), quickly, undoubtfully/without doubt(毫无疑问地), unexpectedly(意料之外地)
Ultimately(最终地), at once(立即地), tightly(紧紧地)
II.Action Chain (动作链)
2.Action Chain--2.1Coordinate conjunction(并列连词)
Skill 2.1:主语+动作A, 动作B, and/but 动作C
He rushed away immediately.
He cried fearfully and loudly.
He cried fearfully and loudly and rushed away immediately.
He brushed his teeth.
He wanted to eat a cake.
He wanted to eat a cake but he brushed his teeth.
2.Action Chain--2.2Non-infinitive form(非谓语)
Skill 2.2.1:主语+谓语(动作A and B), 非谓语动词
He rushed away immediately.
He cried fearfully and loudly.
He cried fearfully and loudly, rushing away immediately.
练习: 他低下头, 轻声的说到“你怎么了 ”
He lowered his head, saying softly, “What’s wrong with you.”
2.Action Chain--2.2Non-infinitive form(非谓语)
Skill 2.2.2:With 的复合结构:With+名词或代词+非谓语,句子
与后续句子中的主语不相同
练习: 伴随着这么凶猛的蛇盯着他,他立马就跑走了。
With such fierce snake staring at him, he rushed away immediately.
The fierce snake stared at him.
He rushed away immediately.
2.Action Chain--2.3Sentence patterns(句型操练)
Skill 2.3.1:Sb be doing(正在做)/be about to do(将要做)/
had done(刚做完)...when(这时突然发生...)+句子
He went home.
He saw a fierce(凶猛的) snake.
He was about to go home when he saw a fierce snake.
He was walking.
He saw a fierce(凶猛的) snake.
He was walking when he saw a fierce snake.
2.Action Chain--2.3Sentence patterns(句型操练)
Skill 2.3.2:Hardly(一) had sb done sth when(就) +句子
No sooner(一) had sb done sth than(就) +句子
Hardly had he seen the fierce snake when he rushed away immediately.
No sooner had he seen the fierce snake than he rushed away immediately.
He saw a fierce(凶猛的) snake.
He rushed away immediately.
2.Action Chain--2.3Sentence patterns(句型操练)
Skill 2.3.3:Not until+句子, 助动词+主+谓 (前半句直到,后半句才...)
练习: 直到他跑远了他才松了一口气。(breath a sigh of relief)
Not until he ran away, did he breath a sigh of relief.
练习: 直到他回家了他才感觉宽慰了下来(relieved)。
Not until he went home, did he feel relieved.

3.Action Scene--3.2Psychological(心理) description
Skill 3.2:Sb can’t/couldn’t help thinking +that从句
He rushed away immediately.
他心理情不自禁地想:“我还不想死”
He rushed away immediately and couldn’t help thinking, “I didn’t want to die.”
Skill 3.2: An idea flashed across one’s mind + “句子”
练习: 突然间他想到一个主意,“为什么不寻求其他人的帮助呢?”
An idea flashed across his mind, “Why not turn to others for help ”
Skill 3.3: 主语+谓语(动作A),神态描写(使用独立主格结构或者With 复合结构)
He cried fearfully and loudly.
伴随着眼泪流淌下来。

The boy was walking towards home when he saw a fierce snake on the way. He was so scared that he cried loudly, with tears rolling down and rushed away immediately.

(4)He begged the firefighter for help.

The boy was running when he saw a firefighter. He dashed to him without hesitation. He held his arms tightly, begging for the firefighter for help, “Please help me.”
Practice
What will happen next Please continue your story. Pay attention to using what you learnt in the class.
After knowing what happened, they went back toward the fierce snake together. This time, the firefighter used his devices and caught the snake quickly. Not until they put the snake to death did they go back home relievedly.
