1.上文“Impulse buying. Paying bills late.
2.上文““Spaying” refers to the act of spending in order to save. With many items on sale, spayers purchase a lot of discounted goods, believing they can save in the long term.(“绝育式消费”指的是为了省钱而花费的行为。 符合语境,该项中的“cheap items”和前文中的“the act of spending in order to save”相呼应。故选F。
故选A。
4.上文“Always sleep on a potential purchase to give yourself-time to think it over.(对于想要购买的物品,先不要着急下单,给自己一些时间仔细考虑一下)”以及下文“Experts recommended adopting a 24-hour waiting period, or even going a step further with a 48-hour rule before buying something, even if it’s on sale.(专家建议在购买东西之前采用24小时的等待期,甚至更进一步,采用48小时的规则,即使它正在打折)”说明给自己时间考虑潜在的购买行为。
5.上文“If you’re buying something to make yourself feel better after a bad day or as a reward for a job well done, the fleeting feelings will pass.(如果你买东西是为了在糟糕的一天后让自己感觉更好,或者作为对出色工作的奖励,那么转瞬即逝的感觉就会过去)”说明如果你因为心情不好或工作表现出色而买东西来奖励自己,那么这种短暂的感觉会很快过去。
How to Stop Making Excuses and Start Living Instead
Whether it’s delaying a difficult conversation or putting off pursuing your biggest dreams, excuses provide us with a temporary shelter from the discomfort we face in our daily lives. 6 By remaining in our comfort zone, we fail to grow and miss out on the good things life has to offer.
7 They make excuses, get stuck in their lives, and repeat the process over and over again. As a former excuse-maker myself, I have learned first hand just what it takes to learn how to stop making excuses for good. In this passage, I will share several practical tips on how to stop making excuses.
As we all know, one of the most common reasons that people make excuses is to avoid responsibility. To stop making excuses, you should shift the focus to your own duty. 8 Accepting full responsibility will definitely be uncomfortable at first. But it’s the most important thing you can do to break free from excuse-making.
Besides, you should challenge your limiting beliefs. We all have limiting beliefs that form the foundation of different types of excuses that we make. 9 They show up as you tell yourself that you’ll never succeed or that certain goals are out of reach. Consider replacing the negative thoughts with more positive beliefs.
Setting goals is one of the best ways to overcome excuses. When setting goals, it’s important to be realistic about what you want to achieve. Try breaking big dreams into specific and achievable goals. 10
A.In this way, you can easily set a realistic goal.
B.These excuses will leave others a bad impression.
C.There are many examples of limiting beliefs in our lives.
D.In my life, I see a lot of people get stuck in the same cycle.
E.Then you’ ll notice the excuses you make begin to lose their power.
F.The more concrete your goals are, the less room there is for excuses.
G.However, they do this at the cost of our long-term sense of satisfaction.

6.上文“Whether it’s delaying a difficult conversation or putting off pursuing your biggest dreams, excuses provide us with a temporary shelter from the discomfort we face in our daily lives.(无论是推迟一场艰难的对话,还是推迟追求你最大的梦想,借口都为我们提供了一个暂时的避风港,让我们得以逃避日常生活中所面临的不适)”及下文“By remaining in our comfort zone, we fail to grow and miss out on the good things life has to offer.(通过停留在我们的舒适区,我们无法成长,也会错过生活中许多美好的事物)”说明借口看似给人们带来的好处,下文又指出如果一直待在舒适区的坏处,由此推断所填内容应该和“借口给人们带来的坏处”有关,G选项“However, they do this at the cost of our long-term sense of satisfaction.(然而,它们是以牺牲我们长期的满足感为代价做到的)”中的however表示转折,指出虽然借口可以暂时逃避不适,但是会牺牲长期的满足感,和上文构成对比关系,而和下文构成顺承关系,符合语境。故选G。
7.下文“They make excuses, get stuck in their lives, and repeat the process over and over again.(他们找借口,陷入生活中,一遍又一遍地重复这个过程)”说明有些人总是找借口,陷入循环,这是对上文内容的解释,D选项中“I see a lot of people get stuck in the same cycle.(我看到很多人陷入了同样的循环)”与之相呼应,下文句中的“repeat the process over and over again”和D选项中的“the same cycle”属于相似表达,故D选项“In my life, I see a lot of people get stuck in the same cycle.(在我的生活中,我看到很多人陷入同样的循环)”符合语境。故选D。
8.上文“To stop making excuses, you should shift the focus to your own duty.(为了停止找借口,你应该把注意力转移到自己的责任上)”说明具体停止找借口的方法,即“需要把注意力转移到你的职责上”,空处可能介绍这种方法带来的好处,E选项“Then you’ ll notice the excuses you make begin to lose their power.(然后你会发现你找的借口开始失去效力)”可以承接上文,说明当你转移注意力到自己的责任上时,你会发现借口开始失去力量,符合语境。故选E。
9.上文“Besides, you should challenge your limiting beliefs. We all have limiting beliefs that form the foundation of different types of excuses that we make.(此外,你应该挑战你的限制性信念。我们都有限制性信念,这些信念构成了我们所做的不同类型借口的基础)”说明要挑战限制性信念,C选项中“limiting beliefs in our lives(生活中的限制性信念)”与之相呼应,且C项“There are many examples of limiting beliefs in our lives.(在我们的生活中,限制性信念的例子很多)”是对上文的进一步说明,且下文内容“They show up as you tell yourself that you’ll never succeed or that certain goals are out of reach. Consider replacing the negative thoughts with more positive beliefs.(它们表现为当你告诉自己你永远不会成功,或者某些目标是遥不可及的时候。
10.上文“Setting goals is one of the best ways to overcome excuses. When setting goals, it’s important to be realistic about what you want to achieve. Try breaking big dreams into specific and achievable goals.(设定目标是克服借口的最好方法之一。
(24-25高三上·山东济宁·期末)It’s no secret that artificial intelligence is changing the way we work. With more and more simpler tasks being automated, humans are left with more high-level cognitive work, such as idea generation, strategic planning, and creative writing. 11
The problem is that we still follow a mindset that resembles the era of assembly (组装) lines, which doesn’t foster or facilitate the type of work needed today. Leaders constantly measured productivity in terms of how many hours an employee spent at work or the number of abstract targets they reached. 12 This type of output doesn’t fit in the era of AI. Instead, we have to make a psychological switch, structuring each workday for quality instead of quantity.
Start by kicking the old method of continuous work throughout the day. Research shows that continuous work impairs creative idea generation and high quality, complex cognitive work. 13 It’s recommended that using work sessions that are about 90 minutes long, attacking the hardest part of the task in the first 20 minutes and moving to the slower, easier work during the remaining time.
14 Therefore, managers should consider the principal area that a team or individual is working on rather than imposing the same work schedule across a team or an organization. Data suggests that it’s better to work on tasks that involve creativity, imagination, and problem solving during the first few hours of the day and again right before you go to sleep. 15 In between the focused work sessions, make time for a nap or for easy work that doesn’t require much creativity or focus.
A.That’s because people tend to overwork.
B.The time of day will also make a difference.
C.As a result, quantity of work was prioritized.
D.To excel in the new era, we’ll need to transform how we work.
E.With every new technology comes fear and then new opportunity.
F.Because of that, it’s better to work in bursts, giving the mind a rest.
G.The middle of the day is better for something calling for concentration.
11.根据上文“It’s no secret that artificial intelligence is changing the way we work. With more and more simpler tasks being automated, humans are left with more high-level cognitive work, such as idea generation, strategic planning, and creative writing.(人工智能正在改变我们的工作方式,这已经不是什么秘密。
12.根据上文“Leaders constantly measured productivity in terms of how many hours an employee spent at work or the number of abstract targets they reached.(领导者经常根据员工在工作中花费的时间或他们达到的抽象目标的数量来衡量生产力)”以及后文“This type of output doesn’t fit in the era of AI. Instead, we have to make a psychological switch, structuring each workday for quality instead of quantity.
13.根据上文“Start by kicking the old method of continuous work throughout the day. Research shows that continuous work impairs creative idea generation and high quality, complex cognitive work.(从摒弃整天连续工作的旧方法开始。研究表明,持续的工作损害了创造性想法的产生和高质量、复杂的认知工作)”以及后文“It’s recommended that using work sessions that are about 90 minutes long, attacking the hardest part of the task in the first 20 minutes and moving to the slower, easier work during the remaining time.(建议使用90分钟左右的工作时间,在前20分钟内解决任务中最难的部分,然后在剩下的时间里转向较慢、较容易的工作)”可知,本句与上文构成因果关系,指出应该集中精力工作,后文给出时间安排的建议。
14.根据后文“Therefore, managers should consider the principal area that a team or individual is working on rather than imposing the same work schedule across a team or an organization. Data suggests that it’s better to work on tasks that involve creativity, imagination, and problem solving during the first few hours of the day and again right before you go to sleep.(因此,管理者应该考虑团队或个人工作的主要领域,而不是在整个团队或组织中强加相同的工作时间表。
15.根据上文“Data suggests that it’s better to work on tasks that involve creativity, imagination, and problem solving during the first few hours of the day and again right before you go to sleep.(数据表明,最好在一天的头几个小时和睡前做一些涉及创造力、想象力和解决问题的工作)”以及后文“In between the focused work sessions, make time for a nap or for easy work that doesn’t require much creativity or focus.(在集中精力工作的间隙,找时间打个盹,或者做一些不需要太多创造力和注意力的简单工作)”可知,上文提到了“在一天的头几个小时和睡前做一些涉及创造力、想象力和解决问题的工作”,本句承接上文,说明其他时间段应该进行什么样的工作。

Start by kicking the old method of continuous work throughout the day.
